Get in on the National Taco Day fun with these keto-friendly cauliflower enchiladas

October 04, 2018 at 01:44PM Today your Instagram feed is likely chock-full of taco ‘grams in honor of National Taco Day. (What, you mean your calendar wasn’t marked?) Well, by dinner time you’re bound to have a serious hankering for some Mexican food. If you’re dialing back on carbs—but really, think twice before cutting them out completely—or following the ketogenic diet, you know taco shells (soft or hard) aren’t exactly part of the plan. But that absolutely doesn’t mean you can’t get in on the festive food action. Mellissa Sevigny of the I Breathe I’m Hungry Instagram account got inspired to create a delish enchilada recipe when a nearly empty fridge forced her to get a little creative. “I was starving and only had a few ingredients in the house to make a tasty keto meal from,” she says. Well, her challenge ultimately benefitted the greater good (i.e., all of us) because it resulted in a green chicken enchilada cauliflower casserole that’s keto-friendly, gluten-free, and will hit the spot. The recipe—along with over 160 others—is featured in her new book, Keto for Life. Scroll down for full instructions, and get ready to straight-up win taco day by thinking outside the shell. Green chicken enchilada cauliflower casserole Serves 6 Ingredients 4 cups cauliflower florets 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened 2 cups shredded cooked chicken breast 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese 1/2 cup salsa verde 1/4 cup full-fat sour cream 1 Tbsp chopped fresh cilantro, plus more for garnish if desired 1/2 tsp

Allergic to your S.O.’s pet? Here are 3 tips to keep you from sneezing out the romantic flame

October 04, 2018 at 01:23PM Allergy attacks don’t quite set the mood for romance, and if your body is exhibiting such signs of uncontrollable intolerance to your significant other’s pet, you can definitely feel me on this. Sneeze fests make it impossible to enjoy whatever you’re trying to watch during your Netflix-and-chill night, and sniffles couldn’t get more in the way of the makeout sesh to which the binge-watching inevitably gives way. Maybe you’re just itchy all over and unable to breathe comfortably, which may not be directly disruptive to your date night, but geez, what a downer! And it’s all because of your love’s furry friend. I experience all of this whenever I’m at my new boo’s place because I’m allergic to his cat. Plenty of couples are tasked with the obstacle of overcoming a pet allergy. I know someone who went so far as to give away their kitty because their S.O. was so severely allergic. But despite the fact that the best way to completely avoid allergy symptoms is to avoid spaces where the pets you’re allergic to reside, some people find a way to coexist—so, since I don’t anticipate a break-up anytime soon, I consulted the pros to figure out how this is possible. “Cat and dog allergies affect 10 percent of Americans, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunocology,” says Dr. Purvi Parikh, MD, an allergist and immunologist with Allergy and Asthma Network. “And twice as many people have a cat allergy as a

Trading your old clothes in for cool new ones is a dream fashion brands are making a reality

October 04, 2018 at 12:47PM The fashion industry is doing more every day to change its reputation as one of the chief sources of pollution and waste in the world. (Finally.) H&M is expanding its eco-conscious offerings to help meet its goal of using 100-percent sustainable or recycled materials by 2030. Casual-cool clothing brand Re/Done is creating new jeans out of old denim, and Urban Outfitters has a line dedicated to repurposing secondhand clothes. There’s still a long way to go, but all these are starts that deserve a slow-clap as they address one major issue: 84 percent of unwanted clothing ends up in landfills or incinerators…even when it’s donated instead of thrown out. This week, two more mega brands joined the good fight: Online consignment shop thredUP and sustainable womenswear line Reformation, which launched a new joint recycling program on October 2. Now, savvy shoppers can visit thredUP’s website and order a thredUP x Reformation UPcycle kit. Once you receive yours, you fill it with clothing you’re ready to part with (from any brand!) and send it back to the company. The clothing will then go through its regular resale vetting process—they’ll return pieces that don’t meet their quality requirements to the customer or recycle them responsibly so they don’t end up in a landfill. For clothing that passes the test, shoppers can choose between a certain monetary amount or Reformation credit. ThredUP expects to continue rolling out similar initiatives with other brands throughout 2019. Although this is one of the most recent (and buzziest) initiatives, it’s not the

Surprise! Makeup artists say exfoliating isn’t the best way to deal with flaky skin

October 04, 2018 at 12:25PM Yesterday, I forgot to put on moisturizer. It’s an embarrassment for sure, especially considering the fact that I’m a beauty editor and should know better. Then again, it didn’t really bother me until I went to an event in the evening and had a professional makeup artist point out to me that I had a dry, flaky patch on my cheek. Ugh. It happens to the best of us—’tis the season for flaky skin situations after all. Regardless of why these patches pop up, it can be embarrassing. I mean, your face is literally peeling off right before everyone’s eyes—not to mention it’s screwing up your entire makeup look. The first thing you undoubtedly want to do is scrub all that dead skin off, stat. Surprisingly though, Karim Sattar, global makeup artist for Dr. Hauschka, told me that’s definitely not what you should be doing. In other words: Lay. off. the exfoliant. “Traditional methods of exfoliating skin with abrasives and enzymes can deplete, disrupt, and disorient skin’s natural moisture barrier,” Sattar tells me as he lightly applies moisturizer to my dry spot. “We recommend methods that educate and aid skin in its natural process of detoxification and renewal.” Exfoliating just wreaks havoc on your skin’s innate purpose of healing itself, he explains. The secret? Treat your flakes with some TLC via hydration and gentle cleansing. “My tip is to cleanse with a gentle, milky formulation that works even for sensitive skin, like Dr. Hauschka’s Soothing Cleansing Milk,”
