May 19, 2019 at 02:00PM by CWC Take a look around the lingerie section in any department store, and you’ll notice that most of the bras and undies that get labeled as “nude” are all pretty much the same shade of pale beige. The same goes for nude-colored shoes, nude-colored nail polishes, and until recently, nude-colored lipstick. But if you take one look around the actual world, you’ll quickly notice that the majority of the population isn’t a single shade of beige. Which means that traditionally, a whole lot of people have been alienated from buying nude products that work for their skin tones. Taking it at its name, “nude” lipstick should be the color of the lip when there’s nothing else on it…rather than a single, (not)catch-all hue. And that’s why it’s exciting that CTZN Cosmetics, a brand-new UK-based cosmetics line has a whopping 25 different shades of nude lipsticks…which is pretty substantial. “The problem is how ‘nude’ is currently defined in the beauty industry—it’s implied that nude is the color beige, when in fact nude is subjective to your unique skin tone,” says Naseesha Khan, co-founder of CTZN Cosmetics. “CTZN Cosmetics is redefining ‘nude’ by offering 25 shades of lipsticks and lip glosses to represent people of all skin tones and backgrounds.” Photo: CTZN Cosmetics So within the brand, you’ll find “nudes” that encompass everything from warm peach to taupey brown, soft burgundy, pure plum, and plenty of others. Each stick is double-sided with a lipstick and lip gloss that

Why Gemini season is the perfect time to do a digital detox
May 19, 2019 at 10:00AM by CWC Ready to put your phone down and make some IRL connections? The cosmos has your back for Gemini season, since the sign of the twins is the most social in the zodiac. So now is the time to live that sweet, sweet analog life, says astrologer Jennifer Racioppi—who also has a week’s worth of advice for what the stars have in store over the next seven days. With Gemini season quickly approaching, now’s the time to get both your social calendar and your social media habits in order. The sun and Mercury conjoin on Tuesday, May 21, as they both simultaneously move into one of the most social signs of the zodiac that same day: the twins. As a mutable air sign, Gemini unleashes the desire to connect. Mercury travels in the sign of the twins until June 4, and since Mercury rules Gemini, we can expect things between now and then to feel fast, communicative, and full of vibrant cross-pollination. While it’s a wonderful time of year for networking and dating, there’s a danger of overcommitting and failing to stay focused on that which most matters to you. To mitigate the impact of distraction this Gemini season, take some time early this week to organize your calendar. What are your non-negotiables this summer? What do you most want to do, experience, and accomplish? What personal values do you want to bring to life? What experiences are you most craving? Schedule that first. Then,
I found something to fix that stupid hair bump I always miss with the straightener
May 19, 2019 at 08:00AM by CWC Today I was painfully distracted by that one blood-boilingly obnoxious bump in my hair. You know what I’m talking about, right? That dumb hair wrinkle that, despite years of straightening my hair, I cannot reach by myself and that I often have to beg my roommate to help with? That stupid thing? I was selfishly seeking a solution during our pitch meeting (because I am very professional) and the team was unanimous about the fix: Revlon Pro Collection Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer. Yikes, that’s a mouthful. I think it was more delivered like, “That Revlon round brush thing…it’s amazing!” Anyways, I was elected to test it out. If you have a mirror, the Revlon Hair Dryer, a waterbottle and a dream, fixing your hair bumps should be pretty effortless. Because it’s a dryer, I had to pre-dampen the section first. Then, I combed up straight and under the bump so I could actually see what the hell I was doing in the mirror. Photo: Revlon The result? The back of my head is practically spherical. In less than five minutes the Revlon Hair Dryer fixed a problem that has plagued me since I started playing with hot tools. The thing about my regular one-inch flat iron is that it doesn’t have the same grip to pull a wide section of head above my hair. Like, last night I was seething watching the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina because the back of Kiernan Shipka‘s
A career expert explains the (big) difference between a job you’d hate to have and a safety job
May 19, 2019 at 06:00AM by CWC When I was applying for college, my high-school adviser and other mentors encouraged me to consider “safety” schools—institutions I wouldn’t mind attending that would almost certainly grant me admission—in addition to the “reach” schools at the top of my list. Little did I know then that this concept would be oh-so apt for landing my first post-grad job. I learned this mind-blowing tidbit during a recent IGTV conversation I had with Lauren Berger, CEO and founder of InternQueen and CareerQueen, and author of Get it Together: Ditch the Chaos, Do the Work, and Design Your Success, about first jobs, new jobs, and how to find dream jobs, among other things. One of the first points we touched on was differentiating between dream jobs and safety jobs. Ultimately, the roles that zero percent of you wants to see out each day belong in neither of those buckets. “Sometimes people think a safety job is a job they would not like and where they think, ‘Ugh, I would hate my life if I worked there,’” Berger says. “Don’t work at those places.” Sure, it’s enticing for newly minted graduates and job-seekers of any age and education level to apply for roles that seem, well, terrible, when the alternative is an empty résumé and bupkis on payday. But if you hate your role and/or company, your mental health may be on the chopping block, given that studies have connected poor workplace satisfaction to depression and anxiety, among
