June 28, 2019 at 04:01PM by CWC Long gone are the days of having to stand in line somewhere to order a healthy meal. Now, you can grab your phone and do it without leaving your couch—let alone having to talk to someone. With nothing but a few taps, your food will be sent straight to your door. And according to new data, a hearty plant-based salad might be the way to go. In a recent report from Grubhub analyzing over half a million orders placed via the platform, a couple different key findings stood out. First of all, the trendiest foods are still vegan and vegetarian options. Then as for the company’s forecast of what’s expected to be one of the buzziest menu items this summer, that’s none other than a simple—yet satisfying!—quinoa and arugula salad. There are plenty of things to love about this combo. It not only hits the spot with your appetite, but it also offers quite the nutritional punch. “Arugula is one of my favorite greens because it has a peppery bite to it,” says Amy Gorin, MS, RDN, owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition. “Quinoa is a terrific addition, especially for vegetarians and vegans. It’s one of the few plant-based foods that’s a complete protein.” Combine three cups of the tart green with one cup of quinoa for 10 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber as well as nutrients like Vitamin C and potassium. ad_intervals[‘404624_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘404624_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’);});

Tevas are the only sandal you’ll want to wear to hit your daily 10,000 steps this summer
June 28, 2019 at 03:00PM by CWC ICYMI: Tevas are having a moment. Your favorite summer camp sandal is back in a big way. “Wow, Tevas Got Cute,” declared a headline in The New York Times style section last month, and TBH, they’re right. The comfy shoe has seriously stepped up its style game of late, by way of partnerships with brands like Opening Ceremony, Anna Sui, and Outdoor Voices (the last of which sold out long before I could personally get my hands on them, which I am still salty about). Gucci even seemed to use the iconic style as inspiration for their latest shoe collection (which, at $740 a pop, are laughably more expensive than the original version). Just last night at an event, a group of editors and I stood around debating which of the Tevas on the market right now deserve to be deemed “the absolute cutest,” and there are so many options we simply couldn’t decide on a clear winner. In addition to being chic AF (a sentence I truly never thought I would write about Tevas, but am now wholeheartedly on-board with), Tevas also happen to be great for clocking those 10,000 steps. Unlike their foot-unfriendly cousin, the flip-flop, they offer enough support for you to walk around ‘in em all day long… without messing with your feet, back, and body. ad_intervals[‘404540_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘404540_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); “When a patient comes in wearing a Teva, I give them
A derm says this drugstore moisturizer is the perfect dupe for La Prairie’s $500+ Skin Caviar
June 28, 2019 at 02:30PM by CWC Out of the entire beauty product encyclopedia that exists in the universe, there are a select few that hold down the fort as the most supreme, elite, expensive, and coveted skin-care finds. I’m talking about the La Mers, La Prairies, and Biologique Recherches of the world. Since I don’t quite have the means to stock up on all of these for the sake of a luxe beauty cabinet (I’m a writer… ), I’m always on the lookout for more affordable dupes. And I’m happy to share my more affordable cult-fave skin-care alternatives with you. So far, we’ve found what’s basically a La Mer cream clone in the aisles of Trader Joe’s for a fraction of the cost (it’s a mere 9 bucks). We’ve also got your back on P50 alternatives that are equally effective acid toners—one of which costs only 15 dollars. Now, I’m on a mission to find a replicate of the all-hailed La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream, a facial moisturizer that runs upwards of 500 dollars. ad_intervals[‘404696_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘404696_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Shari Sperling, MD, board-certified dermatologist of Sperling Dermatology, spills the Skin Caviar alternative that you can literally buy at the drugstore. Her pick? Olay Regenerist Nightly Recovery Cream Moisturizer ($30). “While La Prairie’s Skin Caviar is unique in ingredients—and expensive—a great drugstore alternative would be the Olay Regenerist Nightly Recovery Cream Moisturizer,” she tells me. “It’s an incredibly hydrating and potent wrinkle
Can working out at 52 degrees really dial up your workout?
June 28, 2019 at 02:01PM by CWC [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WH8wP9vqY00] Is Brrrn the coolest workout ever? Watch the video. Not gonna lie: I like to look cool while I’m working out. There’s something about mixing and matching my athletic wardrobe that makes any given workout *that* much more satisfying. I learned recently that there’s yet another way to add that cool factor to my workout. Just dial down the temperature to a chilly 50 degrees (no, seriously). On the latest episode of What the Wellness, Well+Good’s video series exploring all things weird and wonderful in the pursuit of well-being, we visited New York City’s Brrrn studio. The 50-minute, low-impact classes at Brrrn will leave you seriously sweaty. ad_intervals[‘404535_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘404535_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’);}); } }, 100); Brrrn co-founder Jimmy Martin says the reasons for working out in the cold are many. What the heck is an epilator? Everything you need to know about the French-girl hair removal method
June 28, 2019 at 12:34PM by CWC I learned many things during the year I studied abroad in France. For example, the expression for missing someone in French is “Tu me manques,” which translates literally as “You are missing from me.” I always thought the turn of phrase was wildly poetic. But I didn’t really understand it on a visceral level until the French TSA confiscated my epilator on my way back to America. Suddenly, I wanted to scream “Tu me manques!” at my lightning fast hair removal tool in the middle of Charles de Gaulle Airport—no matter the sharp looks from my fellow travelers. Just in case you’re new to epilators, the palm-sized devices (invented in the 1980s and popularized by the ’90s) look a whole lot like razors—except they’re electric and make a pretty terrible noise. After you’ve washed your body and exfoliated the desired area, you turn the gizmo on and slowly run it across your skin. Some people like to use baby powder and lotion as they do so, but it’s not “required” per se. ad_intervals[‘404767_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘404767_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); The easy nature of the razor glow-ups are perhaps why they’re a pretty big deal in The City of Lights. Fashion blogger Eva Chen is a fan of them, too. Recently, she shared on one of her Instagram stories that she personally caught epilator fever in the UK—so it must just be an over the pond thing (for
Women’s reproductive health isn’t up for debate—but we still need candidates to discuss it
June 28, 2019 at 11:45AM by CWC If you blinked during Thursday night’s Democratic presidential debate, you might have missed discussion on the topic of reproductive health entirely. (Wednesday’s debate likewise glossed over another major health issue: climate change.) Considering that nine states have now passed bills that seriously limit women’s access to abortion, and another four are considering similar actions, and 19 states have laws that could be used restrict legal abortions, the issue’s lack of airtime seemed like an egregious oversight. On stage at the debate, only New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders were given a chance to speak (for just less than a minute apiece) about their stances on abortion rights. But other frontrunners in the 2020 presidential race have their own game plans to protect women’s reproductive rights. Kamala Harris “Similar to the preclearance requirement of the Voting Rights Act, Harris will require, for the first time, that states and localities with a history of violating Roe v. Wade obtain approval from her Department of Justice before any abortion law or practice can take effect,” reads Senator Kamala Harris’ official campaign website. ad_intervals[‘404599_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘404599_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’);}); } }, 100); This will stand for any state or locality that has attempted to defy Roe v. Wade in the last 25 years. While the DOJ will act as a safeguard against any potential threats to the right to an abortion, citizens also have the opportunity to challenge the government body.
T.J. Maxx is secretly the best place to score skin care—here’s what to buy
June 28, 2019 at 10:30AM by CWC I hunt for beauty products the same way as I hunt for clothes: I go e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e to find what I’m looking for. On the clothing front, I’ll hit up every spot from traditional clothing stores to Goodwill and even my mom’s closet (sorry mom!). And when it comes to skin-care products, I’m scouring beauty boutiques, Sephora and Ulta, the drugstore (duh), and sometimes department stores. You know, the usual suspects. But then one day on a quest to find some cute home decor for my apartment, I discovered the ultimate fashion and beauty jackpot under the same roof: at T.J. Maxx. No kidding. What I thought was an amazing store for finding bargains on clothes and houseware and purses is actually an under-the-radar skin-care mecca. Consider me shook. My shopping cart was soon overflowing with a variety of skin-care gems, including acne-busting face masks, clean beauty MVPs (including deodorant), body-care must-haves, and pore-clearing serums. Seriously—the ubiquitous store has a major clean beauty selection, so if you’re looking for more natural finds, it’s got you. And if you’re looking to splurge? T.J. Maxx even has luxe skin-care by SK-II and Clarins. It’s particularly exciting because the megastore is in, like, every town, so you can easily swing by to stock up on beauty essentials while you’re out buying home goods. ad_intervals[‘404576_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘404576_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Since their beauty offering is actually kinda overwhelming (because it’s just that
Here’s what a healthy plate looks like on the Paleo diet
June 28, 2019 at 09:38AM by CWC If someone had suggested 10 years ago to “eat like a caveman,” they probably would have been met with a fair amount of raised eyebrows and skepticism. Fast-forward to today, and that’s the entire ethos of the very popular Paleo diet. “The Paleo diet is based on the premise of eating real food, as close to our ancestors as possible. It removes common inflammatory foods like grains, dairy, soy, processed vegetable oils, refined sugar and legumes,” says Samantha Presicci, MCN, RD, LD, CPT, lead dietitian at Snap Kitchen. The eating plan comes with a decent amount of potential benefits, she says, including reduced inflammation and improved digestion and blood sugar control. (However, some experts say more research is needed.) It might especially beneficial for those struggling with GI issues. “Some people, including some of my clients with digestive health issues and autoimmune disease, report feeling better on a Paleo diet, but this is all anecdotal,” says EA Stewart, MBA, RD, CLT. She also likes the emphasis on whole foods and reduction of added sugars and highly processed foods, neither of which do any favors for people’s health. ad_intervals[‘404227_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘404227_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’);}); } }, 100); While the initial Paleo diet “rules” were pretty strict, Stewart says there are many interpretations out there that are more manageable. “There are no hard-and-fast rules about the percentage of foods and macronutrients that should be eaten on the Paleo diet,” she says.

How to get your morning beauty routine down to a breezy 10 minutes, care of the pros
June 28, 2019 at 09:00AM by CWC Unless you’re one of those wellness-world wizards who has fully mastered the art of the a.m. routine, getting out the door in the morning can be hectic (to say the least). If you love the snooze button as much as I do, you’re likely left with only a few minutes from the time you hop out of bed until you’ve gotta hit the road, which means it’s a major crunch to get everything done (why oh why do I never pick out an outfit or pack my lunch the night before?!). The good news? You don’t actually need a whole lot of time to get out the door looking—and feeling—fly. To streamline your morning routine, we asked three pros to each put together a skin-care, hair-care, and makeup routine that won’t run you more than three minutes. Which means you can get it all done in nine minutes flat, with one to spare so you can admire your handiwork in the mirror. Skin care 1. Cleanse your skin for 45 seconds to one minute: Sing a rendition of “The ABC’s” while you give your skin a (gentle) scrub down to get rid of any dirt or grime that’s accumulated over night. No need to double cleanse, since you (hopefully) won’t have makeup to remove first thing in the morning. If you’re really in a time crunch, use micellar water for a quick-and-easy clean that won’t totally dehydrate your skin. ad_intervals[‘398447_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function ()
