September 02, 2019 at 12:00AM by CWC Of all the decades, I’ve always thought the 1980’s would be immune to nostalgic trend recycling if only because the trends were, I thought, exceptionally bad—as evidenced by my mom’s hairspray-heavy Glamour shots from the era. Somehow, though, everything old and cringe-y becomes new and cool again eventually, and the ’80s have not fulfilled my prediction of being an exception. Examples of this abound.’80s workouts are back, and even the people who made them iconic, e.g. Jane Fonda, are experiencing a pop culture resurgence. Shoulder pads, power suits, windbreakers—and, well, duh—off-duty leggings are just a few resuscitated trends that could also be named offhand. Most of these I want nothing to due with, but one fad has surprisingly recruited even a skeptic like me to the cause of 1980’s revival: the neon biker short. I’m not alone, either. Athleisure icon Serena Williams recently wore bold-hued blue bike shorts (which were just shy of electric neon) to the Nike Queens of the Future event in New York, which she actually paired with an aforementioned ’80s-era windbreaker. ad_intervals[‘417170_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘417170_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Personally, I became obsessed after seeing a group of friends all sporting a neon pair designed by Carbon 38 (shop the style below), a look which I immediately felt compelled to copycat. My new pink shorts make me feel dorky in a cool way, just as has the entirety of this summer’s long shorts trend.

Why Saturn and Pluto’s dance right now could be game-changing for your life
September 01, 2019 at 11:22PM by CWC With a potent new moon at your back, (the new moon in Virgo happened at 6 degrees on August 30), September opens up on a productive note. The majority of planets continue to travel through earth signs, as the cosmos serve us a whopping dose of grounded energy. When the elemental emphasis sways so profoundly in the direction of the element earth, as it has now, conditions become perfect for productivity. So, set your sights on exactly what you wish to accomplish and think through what you need to succeed. You can and will get so much done, if you apply some heart-driven strategy to what you are going after. When the elemental emphasis sways so profoundly in the direction of the element earth, as it has now, conditions become perfect for productivity. On the topic of the earth element, I want to explain something significant. We are currently living in an astrological moment defined by two slow-moving planets that find themselves in very close proximity to one another in Capricorn. These two planets, Saturn and Pluto, command transformation. ad_intervals[‘420008_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘420008_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’);}); } }, 100); Saturn and Pluto ask for hard work, tenacity, and determination. While they travel close to one another in nose-to-the-grindstone Capricorn, their presence is hard to ignore. This combination of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn has a massive crescendo in 2020. However, we’ve felt the combination of these two titans throughout all
One woman found a surprising mental health benefit in a simple at-home manicure
September 01, 2019 at 10:01PM by CWC [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lEwXLMIBLI] Confession: my at-home manicure routine is mostly me painting over my chipped nail polish right before I head out the door. I’m always in a rush to do it, and it comes more from a place of necessity than self care. When everything is go-go-go, it can be difficult to remember that it’s necessary to slow down and take a breather, but I’m feeling inspired to do just that after watching the self-care ritual of Maya Feller, RDN. For her, an at-home manicure is a way to bring levity to a job that can be demanding. Feller works with patients who have diet-related chronic illness. “Because I deal with diet-related chronic illnesses, sometimes work can be serious,” she says in our latest episode of Self Care Nation. “I really do like to have a little bit of fun with my nails and make them bright and colorful. It’s just a way of showing my patients it’s not all serious.” ad_intervals[‘419785_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘419785_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); What began as a way to stretch out the length of her salon manicures (which: same) eventually evolved into a self-care practice that Feller absolutely loves. The key is in small touches, like running a diffuser with calming essential oils and using a hand cream that feels thick and luxurious. “Now that I have a family and kids it’s really interesting, because when I go to the salon everyone’s
Can you reuse tea bags? In more ways than one
September 01, 2019 at 08:01PM by CWC Every time I brew myself a cup of tea, I feel super weird about tossing out the tea bag. And if you drink it daily, you’re building up quite the collection of waste. The good news is they don’t need to be tossed into the garbage. Instead, there are plenty of different ways you can put them to use aside from in a steaming-hot cup of water. Tea bags might not seem like a major threat to the environment compared to some of the top offenders, but they’re still causing harm. According to the BBC, most tea bags are made up of at least 25 percent plastic, which doesn’t allow them to completely decompose. Because of that, they’re only added to the millions of pounds of plastic that winds up in landfills and the ocean every year. If you shop smart—and use your tea bags wisely!—they can better your life in many ways without hurting the planet in the process. Here are the best hacks to start with. ad_intervals[‘418942_div-gpt-ad-5443410-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘418942_div-gpt-ad-5443410-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-5443410-3’);}); } }, 100); 6 simple ways to reuse your tea bags Photo: Getty Images/sagarmanis 1. The Spruce says sprinkling used tea leaves around the base of your plants that like acidity, then working them into the soil, can help
Honey is (literally) the buzziest ingredient for your hair, and this two-ingredient mask has you covered
September 01, 2019 at 06:00PM by CWC Honey has been around the block a time or two. It’s been utilized by humans for at least 9,000 years, and even the ancient Egyptians knew what’s up, using it as a food sweetener, liquid bandage on the skin, and beyond. All these years later, nothing has changed. The world’s love of honey only continues to grow—especially when it comes to how much it can benefit your hair. “Honey is a wonder ingredient for both your hair and scalp, and it’s great for all hair types. It’s one of the oldest beauty ingredients,” says Jana Blankenship, founder of Captain Blankenship and author of Wild Beauty. “Honey is a natural emollient, humectant, antibacterial, and is full of antioxidants. It helps seal in moisture, adds shine, promotes hair growth, and strengthens hair, preventing breakage. It also helps soothe scalp conditions, such as dermatitis and dandruff.” Reaping these benefits is simple: All you need to do is whip together a honey hair mask. “Did you know Cleopatra used to take milk and honey baths? This simple recipe is inspired by this practice, but it’s a hair bath mask. It softens and moisturizes your hair while soothing your scalp,” Blankenship says. “You can’t use this hair mask too often, but I recommend at least once a week.” Here’s exactly how to make the mask. ad_intervals[‘419308_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘419308_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Honey hair mask Ingredients: 2 tsp raw honey 1 Tbsp
A Harvard nutrition expert shares his go-to healthy breakfast
September 01, 2019 at 04:00PM by CWC The importance of breakfast is something we’ve all been preached since elementary school. Back then, it usually took the form of a cereal dotted with rainbow-colored marshmallows, or frozen waffles slathered with butter and syrup. Sure, these meals checked the breakfast box, but looking back, they didn’t really deliver on the protein front. (Or on fiber or healthy fats, for that matter.) Is it any wonder we’re still confused about what to eat int he morning? Enter Harvard nutrition expert Walter Willett, MD. Dr. Willett has been studying the way food impacts long-term health for 40 years, so he knows a thing or two about healthy breakfast foods. Dr. Willett recently told Business Insider that a typical breakfast for him is made up of steel cut oats, nuts, and yogurt. Talk about a well-balanced breakfast. “It is a low-glycemic kind of carbohydrates that does bring a lot of microfiber and micronutrients, which do appear to have health value,” he explained of his morning meal. ad_intervals[‘419001_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘419001_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’);}); } }, 100); I know—his reasoning comes with a side of some major nutritional mumbo gumbo, so let’s break down exactly what he’s talking about. Low-glycemic foods essentially have a minimal effect on a person’s blood sugar, which will keep both energy and mood levels even—always a great idea at breakfast, when you want to start your day off on the right foot. Oats, nuts, and plain yogurt are

The expert-approved way to successfully break up with a narcissist for good
September 01, 2019 at 02:00PM by CWC Taylor Swift once said “never trust a narcissist.” And she’s right—especially because trusting a narcissist might lead to a breakup with a narcissist. And that’s fun for no one. Ending any relationship, in any circumstance tends to fall somewhere between “unpleasant” and “downright horrible,” but when you’re contending with a narcissist, a unique set of challenges may emerge. “Narcissists are very self-absorbed and selfish, so they talk about what they want and what they need from you, disregarding whatever you tell them about your own feelings and concerns about the relationship,” says relationship therapist Jane Greer, PhD. This is consistent with the telltale sign of a narcissist: that they put their feelings in front of everyone else’s—including their partner’s—which usually means ignoring what their partner wants. So if you want to break up and they don’t, they’ll do everything in their power to keep the relationship going. “A narcissist will use every trick in the book to achieve their end goals: emotional manipulation, psychological manipulation, mind games, and emotional torment,” says relationship expert Susan Winter. ad_intervals[‘416581_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘416581_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’);}); } }, 100); While there are certain hints that may open your eyes to the fact that you’re in a relationship with a narcissist (…the most obvious of which apparently being that they love to send you dick pics on the reg), the reality often becomes most evident when you’re trying to distance yourself from the situation.
