I gave my skin-care routine a total overhaul without touching a beauty product—here’s how I did it
June 16, 2019 at 06:30PM by CWC I’m all for living that #nofilter life, but considering the number of searches for “better skin” Google gets in a day, I don’t think I’m alone in wanting to improve my IRL complexion. For me, step one was getting rid of my acne, which I did thanks to improved gut health and jane iredale’s Skin Accumax® supplements. Step two? Giving my now-clear skin a smoother, glowier appearance. In my quest to turn my complexion into a real-life Snapchat filter, the one thing I wanted to avoid was adding a hundred products to my skin-care routine. (It’s well-documented that I’m a less-is-more kind of gal.) So instead of loading my medicine cabinet with new moisturizers and masks, I decided to try Advanced Nutrition Programme’s Skin Ultimate—one of the newest skin-care supplements from jane iredale. ad_intervals[‘397161_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘397161_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Before I started taking it (the skeptical journalist in me means I always do my homework), I got the lowdown from Hannah Hatcher, global educator and supplements education manager at jane iredale. She shared that Skin Ultimate was designed to hydrate and plump skin, even skin tone, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and increase hair and nail growth—in a way that topical products can’t deliver. “Topically, our skin can absorb about 60 percent of what is applied on its surface,” Hatcher explains. “By taking oral skin-care supplements, highly active skin-care ingredients will travel through the bloodstream and feed

The ultimate playlist for getting over your breakup and moving on
June 16, 2019 at 02:00PM by CWC When it comes to painful experiences, going through a breakup is right up there with getting a face tattoo. Unless you’re in the lucky camp where it ended on swell terms and no one got hurt (the unicorn of splits), it’s perfectly normal to want to hide out underneath your blankets with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s melting on your nightstand. Moving on from a breakup is hard—really, really hard—and can take time, but music can be a crutch that helps prop you up while you heal. “Music affects the limbic system of the brain, a mid-brain interior section that responds emotionally,” says relationship therapist Tammy Nelson, Ph.D. “When we listen to music the limbic system reacts with chills, excitement, joy, sadness, and anger.” With that in mind, listening to empowering, uplifting songs can help boost your mood. Dr. Nelson explains that the amygdala (a part of the limbic system inside your brain that controls memories and emotion) is connected to trauma, and when we listen to music, feelings connected to trauma can be quieted. “Music literally controls our brain and our memories,” Dr. Nelson says. “We can heal our emotions with the right songs.” Her Rx for anyone going through a breakup right now: Lizzo’s new album, Cuz I Love You. “It’s a journey of her own sexual empowerment and her psychotherapy and how she heals from her body image issues and owns her sexual power,” Dr. Nelson says. “It’s an

How to jump-start your day with a CBD-fueled mini facial
June 16, 2019 at 10:00AM by CWC [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiF9l2YZOKM] So much of our mental and spiritual health rests on self-care. But making time for it isn’t always easy. If just thinking about slipping some “me time” into your schedule is stressing you out, career coach Claire Wasserman says to instead combine it with an existing habit. As the founder of career-development organization Ladies Get Paid, Wasserman’s pre-work ritual is designed to help her to maintain focus, she explains in the latest episode of Well+Good’s YouTube series Self-Care Nation. She kicks off each day with a series of self-care practices fueled by intention. And it all starts with espresso, followed by a unique morning facial routine. A full-on believer in the power of CBD, Wasserman multitasks while taking her daily dose. The 60 to 90 seconds she holds the oil under her tongue is the perfect time for gua sha. ad_intervals[‘399149_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘399149_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’);}); } }, 100); “As the CBD is under my tongue I am pulling the gua sha down the side of my face always pushing away. I find that it energizes my face, it feels like a little bit of a workout,” she says. “It gets that puffage away and by the time that I’m done with it I swallow the CBD.” For more tips to ensure a calm and productive morning, watch the video above. Meditation looks different for everyone. For some, it’s therapeutic cooking. For others, it can be a manicure.
Here’s what happened when I tried “vabbing” and wore my vaginal secretions as perfume for a week
June 16, 2019 at 08:00AM by CWC I first learned about vabbing from an episode of the Secret Keepers Club podcast, hosted by two New York City-based comedians, Emma Willmann of My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Carly Aquilino of Girl Code. Though the term may seem like a misspelling of a certain dance move, it’s actually a bit more, um…salacious. Its official definition? Touching yourself, then dabbing your, ahem, essence behind your ears as perfume for attracting others. (Get it? Vagina + dabbing= vabbing.) Since the term’s debut, many Secret Keepers Club listeners have written in, lauding the effectiveness of vabbing—but, not totally convinced, I decided to try it myself. To start, I explained vabbing to women’s hormone and pheromone expert, Felice Gersh, MD, OB/GYN. Her take? “There’s absolutely no data proving that this would work. No research has been done on this ‘vabbing’ thing.” But—but!—she goes on to clarify that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t or couldn’t work. “There are pheromones in vaginal secretions, especially around the time of ovulation, and data suggests that pheromones do draw potential mates to you.” While most studies on this topic have been done with animals, there is evidence supporting the power of pheromones, and Dr. Gersh says there’s no reason to doubt that similar results would present in humans. ad_intervals[‘397915_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘397915_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’);}); } }, 100); Given the well-researched role pheromones play in mating behavior, Dr. Gersh contends women finding success with vabbing isn’t such an outlandish notion.
Whether you prefer lip stick or gloss, here’s how to instantly plump your pout
June 16, 2019 at 07:05AM by CWC Wildly over-lined lips are so 2015. But making them the teeniest bit plumper won’t hurt anybody. Right? Enter lip contouring. This simple trick can make your lips look fuller without over doing it. You can take one of two routes for lip contouring: an opaque lip stick or a shimmery gloss. Lip stick No matter what look you’re going for, you’ll need a liner that’s a few shades deeper than your lippie. For professional makeup artist Ricky Wilson, nude shades are the way to go. He tells Refinery29 that you should find a lip liner that’s a shade darker than your natural lip tone, to create a believable fullness that will work with any lip stick you put on top. But, Maybelline shows us that you can also make it work by using a colored lip liner, getting a more deliberate ombre effect. ad_intervals[‘387029_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘387029_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Start by defining the center of the lips. In an Instagram post, Huda Beauty recommends drawing an X at your cupid’s bow and then outline the rest of your lips. If you’re going to over line, Wilson says that you should only over line your cupids bow. This can help you fake it without it being obvious. Pro tip: Use the side of your lip pencil instead of the tip so you’re not left with a harsh line, Wilson says. Next, add lipstick on top, but be

This hardcore leg workout is worthy of a World Cup Champion—and will leave your lower body burning
June 16, 2019 at 05:00AM by CWC Real talk: Seeing the U.S. crush it in their first game of the 2019 Women’s World Cup was the biggest leg-day inspiration of all time. There’s nothing like watching a group of badass females score 13 goals (which was a world record, BTW) to make you think “hmm, maybe those squats are worth it after all.” Ready to hone your skills and feel strong enough to rival Alex Morgan? This workout has got you covered. Here, Gold’s Gym Certified Personal Trainer and GOLD’S AMP Coach Ally McKinney, shares her favorite leg moves that will turn you into a soccer superstar—or at least, leave your lower body on fire for two full days after you leave the gym. Back squat ad_intervals[‘401044_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘401044_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’);}); } }, 100); “Back squats are a fantastic way to increase overall leg strength because it really forces our quad group and glute group to work and recruit all the muscle fibers,”McKinney says. “Soccer players are known for their beautiful quads so adding in back squats are going to give you exactly that.” Start by resting an empty squat bar between your traps so it isn’t putting pressure on your spine. Bring your feet shoulder width apart with your feet slightly turned out, and squeeze your glutes while bracing your core. As you bend your knees, drop your hips toward your heels and keep your chest up—try to get so low so that your
