Need a motivational boost to get back to the gym? Here’s how workout clothes can help you find your fitspo
January 01, 2019 at 01:39PM Finding the balance between self and work (and family and friends) is never easy at this time of year. So, if you’re looking for some extra motivation to get off the couch and back to the gym, one easy (yet overlooked) way, is by putting on workout clothes you actually like. Turns out that 69 percent of people claim that having nice workout clothing that they enjoy putting on helps push them to exercise. This intel is based on a survey of over 2,000 gym goers who said they felt more motivated to move when they liked what they were wearing. It’s something Denise Lee, founder and CEO of the buzzy activewear line Alala, says she’s found to be true, too. “Owning activewear you love can promote a healthier, more active lifestyle”, says Lee. “When you feel good, your mindset shifts to a place where self-care becomes more important to you. You should always feel 100 percent comfortable and supported in your workouts.” Here here. Creating a positive, mindful experience starts with what you see in the mirror each day. So, if you’re looking for some inspo when it comes to new workout clothes, scroll down to see activewear pieces that might just motivate you to emerge from your chenille cocoon and hit the gym or studio. I combined two steps of my skin-care routine and my skin has never been happier
January 01, 2019 at 10:00AM In the Herculean effort of maintaining moisture in my skin during the bone-cold days of winter, I’ve been trying different hydrating hacks in my beauty routine. First, I slathered a moisturizing balm all over my face—but balms aren’t really my thing. I’ve started incorporating hydrating facial masks, which are great for an added boost—it’s like letting your skin chug a liter of water in a 15-minute treatment. But then I concocted my very own skin-care cocktail… and it’s been giving me an unparalleled radiance. After playing around with the bottles lining my beauty cabinet like a chemist in a science lab, I finally found the trick to keeping my complexion glowing all day rather than dying of thirst by, like, noon. All it takes is adding 2 to 3 drops of a facial oil into my moisturizer, and I’m set. While my cream is fine on its own—really, I’m not complaining—I like a dewy finish to my skin and in the winter, I need a boost. Though I don’t normally use facial oils, the moisturizer is the perfect vessel for application—and what’s left is an added barrier of protection on my complexion so that it’s quenched (and glowy) throughout the day. “Mixing is great because it adds an extra layer of protection to your skin and blends two steps into one,” says Elizabeth Fernandez, a skin therapist at New York’s Heyday. “All skin types can benefit from mixing. However, if you have oily skin, I’d recommend using
