Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Pleated Set Is Basically the Outfit Equivalent of a Cloud
April 30, 2020 at 09:28PM If I’m being honest, I never don’t want to dress like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. I’ve admired the model’s classic style for quite some time, but now more than ever, I’m turning to her for inspiration on how to look and feel put-together during a time when so much else feels out of my control. Nike Socks, Bras and Shorts Have Quickly Become Sought-After Fashion Items
April 30, 2020 at 09:00PM Four times a year Lyst, the global fashion search engine, releases a list of the most popular brands and items on the planet, and its Q1 report has been significantly impacted by our shift in lifestyles. Nike has gone from the 12th most powerful brand, to take the number three spot and a pair of joggers were the 8th hottest women’s product. It’s not surprising given the surge in demand for loungewear, however Nike and New Balance are two sportswear brands that are really resonating within fashionable circles. People aren’t going for the simple Nike items either, as the consensus seems to be ‘the bigger the swoosh, the better.’ Instagram and TikTok are awash with crop tops with exaggerated Nike ticks and many are wearing white tennis socks pulled up to reveal the logo. As we are moving into summer, many are swapping jogging bottoms for track shorts, so it’s likely the Nike sweatshorts will make their way into Lyst’s top 10 for Q2. Keep scrolling to see the Nike items we love—and some ideas for how to wear them. Style Notes: Buttercup yellow tracksuits have been a real hit in fashion circles, and this Nike one is a beauty. Style Notes: Contrast a Nike crop top with an exaggerated swoosh with a tailored blazer.Style Notes: New Balance + Nike socks are a popular double act in 2020. We told you… here they are again. And again…Opt for an all-white look, with joggers, a T-shirt and Nike socks. Most of us aren’t
TikTok Caught Blake Lively Wearing Sweatpants Over Her Bodycon Dress in Gossip Girl, and Honestly? Same
April 30, 2020 at 09:24PM Hello, Upper East Siders! I was scrolling through TikTok when I happened to come across a video of a Serena van der Woodsen outfit blunder on Gossip Girl that made my jaw drop. TikTok user skyehanamaikai was rewatching season 6, episode 4, when the camera accidentally panned down to reveal that Blake Lively was wearing a pair of sweatpants over her bodycon dress. The video now has six million views, 20 of which were mine because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, and the fact that nobody caught this before. (Remember when Twitter spotted a Starbucks cup in an episode of Game of Thrones or the Hydro Flask debacle in Little Women? This is like that.) In the episode, Serena crashes a speed-dating round that Georgina set up for Dan wearing a neon orange bodycon dress by Roland Mouret. She accessorized with a snakeskin-print bag by Fendi and a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti high-heels. Her entire outfit screams high-fashion, which is why we were shocked to see her wearing a pair of sweatpants pulled down to her thighs. The outfit mishap probably happened because the scene was supposed to be shot from the waist up, so Blake assumed she could get away with being a little more comfortable behind-the-scenes. After all, she was often seen in sweats and UGG boots while filming the show. Keep reading to see the mistake documented on TikTok and take a look back at Blake wearing sweats on set,
Canadian Spoken-Word Artist Mustafa the Poet to Star in New Valentino Campaign
April 30, 2020 at 09:05PM As the world continues to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, fashion houses are having to shift the way they do things, particularly when it comes to campaigns. Last week, Bella Hadid starred in the first major luxury campaign to be shot over FaceTime for Jacquemus, and now, Valentino has revealed its plans for its Fall advertising campaign. According to WWD, creative director Pierpaolo Picciolo has tapped his network of high profile friends to appear in the brand’s upcoming men’s and women’s campaigns for Fall. So far, the list includes the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Anwar Hadid and Laura Dern. Each of the stars has agreed to waive their fees for the project, with the house donating one million euros to the Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital in Rome to help with its COVID-19 relief efforts. Each star will be shot in their own home (by someone they’re living with), wearing clothes from Valentino’s upcoming collection. Excitingly, Canadian spoken word artist Mustafa the Poet (whose real name is Mustafa Ahmed) has also been tapped for the opportunity. This won’t be the first time the Canadian has worked with the Italian brand, either. For its F/W 20 campaign, Valentino asked Ahmed to create a series of poems to appear on pieces in the Valentino On Love collection. Plus, in February, Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy wore a custom Valentino tux to the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty that was adorned with the words of one of his
Outer Banks Season 2: Everything We Know
April 30, 2020 at 08:49PM BY SAVANNAH WALSH CURTIS BAKER/NETFLIX Spoilers for season 1 of Outer Banks below. Watching the soapy teen drama of Netflix’s Outer Banks left me longing for a tan, a fictional summer romance, and a sun-drenched vacation. But more than anything, it left me craving a second season that will make sense of the show’s wild final episode. The series follows the socioeconomic warfare between the elite Kooks and working class Pogues in the North Carolina region known as Outer Banks. “It’s the sort of place where you either have two jobs or two houses,” the show’s trailer explains. “Two tribes, one island.” At the show’s center is a treasure hunt for $400 million aboard a sunken ship. Along the way, there are love triangles and murder motives to satisfy all your horny and vindictive urges. If you, too, found yourself invested in a show that somehow satisfies your One Tree Hill, The Goonies, and Gossip Girl obsessions, here’s everything you need to know about a potential second season. There’s no confirmation or release date. Netflix has yet to officially renew the 10-episode drama, which was released on April 15. However, should the show get green-lit for season 2, production will likely be delayed. Filming on TV shows and films has halted across the board due to COVID-19, meaning Outer Banks season 2 (likely) won’t be headed to our screens until late 2021 or early 2022. Season 1 left off on a major cliffhanger. It’s hard to imagine any viewer would be satisfied with Outer Banks ending after that season 1 finale, which saw the
Selena Gomez Has No Shame Jamming Out on TikTok, and I Have No Shame Buying Her T-Shirt
April 30, 2020 at 08:50PM Why would Selena Gomez feel any shame in jamming out to her new Rare album on TikTok? I’d probably do the same thing if I had her incredible voice, along with her incredible crew of fans (aka Selenators) liking and commenting up a storm. But Selena also has noteworthy stay-home style, as proven by this look, which is – YUP! – accessorized with a hairbrush microphone. I have one of those too, Selena. Selena wore her Sunset Long Sleeve Tee tucked into a pair of light-wash, high-waist mom jeans and swayed back and forth to “Vulnerable,” and we’re totally feeling the vibes she’s sending out. Let me also just mention that her bangs, which are fairly new, look so friggin’ good. I can tell you one thing, I definitely don’t look this cute while attempting to sing into my hairbrush microphone – although that’s probably because most of my efforts happen in the shower. I digress. After spotting Selena in her long-sleeve tee on TikTok, I couldn’t help but check out the rest of her merch, which she did give us a sneak peek of in London back in December. It’s safe to say I’m obsessed with the graphics on her long-sleeve tees specifically, and while you can’t shop the multicolor white one she’s wearing in her TikTok video, I’m even more inclined to pick up the bright yellow “Dance Again” version that you’ll find after the jump. Does Street Style Have a Future in a Post-COVID-19 World?
April 30, 2020 at 08:42PM After the announcement this month that London Fashion Week will launch a digital platform, a small slice of direction was given to an industry that’s been in a downward spiral for the better part of a decade. It offers hope that for creatives, there is prosperity beyond the runway calendar; and it also presents an opportunity for everyone involved to rethink, reimagine and start fresh in approaching the design, production, retail and editorial lifecycles of the pieces that allow us to express our inner character to the world. But one thing sprang to mind after hearing the LFW news and other announcements about catwalk cancellations: What would happen to street style? It’s a medium that’s become a powerful means for press to illustrate trends, and for brands to flaunt their latest wares. It’s launched influencers into business moguls and created icons out of editors—and now it’s facing a disappearing act in the wake of social distancing, a deepening examination of how the fashion industry functions, and for the individual, what’s necessary and what’s not. Labels have turned to telling stories about their products through social platforms because customers crave authenticity in what they consume, be it visually or through a purchase. And to save itself, street style must likewise pivot back to its original incarnation and intention, documenting what people wear—and how they wear it—in an uninhibited way, sans the intervention of the entities that capitalized on its popularity.
