Barbie Was “Fashionably Late” to the Pillow Challenge, But Really, She’s Always on Time

April 23, 2020 at 07:04PM View this post on Instagram A post shared by Barbie® (@barbiestyle) on Apr 23, 2020 at 8:34am PDT How does Barbie dress when there are no space missions to embark on and dream houses to visit? Like many others staying home right now, she gets her inspiration from Instagram. The iconic doll recently participated in the popular, fashion-approved Pillow Challenge, which asks people to put together an outfit simply using a belt and – you guessed it – pillow. “Staying at home or becoming the home,” Barbie wrote on Instagram, “Thought it was only fitting to show up fashionably late to the #PillowChallenge.” In participating, Barbie joins the ranks of Tracee Ellis Ross and Anne Hathaway, whose take on the challenge also involved a nod to her beloved Princess Diaries character, Mia Thermopolis. Related: Whitney Port Is Dressing Up Like Classic Movie Characters on Instagram – Can We Join? Though this whole thing certainly falls under the phrase, “I can’t believe I’m even saying this,” what we’re actually most surprised about is Barbie’s sartorial choices. Who knew she’d pair her pillow with such an edgy belt? And it seems so unlike her to leave the bed unmade while she posed for her photo! We’re learning all sorts of new things about Barbie during this time. Enjoy her take on the challenge above, and stay tuned for her next post, which at this point we can assume will involve Barbie perfecting her sourdough starter. Continue Reading…

Loewe Launches First Unisex Fragrance in its Ibiza Collection

April 23, 2020 at 06:31PM Today, Loewe is unveiling its newest Ibiza collection, and with it comes the brand’s first fragrance under the yearly line. Working with the brand’s in-house perfumer Nuria Cruelles, designer Jonathan Anderson created the limited edition unisex scent, which includes notes of warm ambergris, Madagascan mandarin oils, driftwood, frangipani flowers, vanilla absolute, Sulawesi patchouli oil, and fresh coconut water. “It reminds me of sun-kissed summers I spent in Ibiza as a teenager. Abandon knows no rules or borders, thereafter our fragrance is as irreverent and sun-drenched as it is universal.” Photograph courtesy of Loewe The fragrance is part of the brand’s new Paula’s Ibiza collection, which saw the designer mine the archives of ’70s store Paula’s to bring its “iconic prints inspired by the natural world” to life once again. The playful collection is brimming with bright hued pieces for men and women, as well as accessories. In a note that accompanied the press release for the new collection, Anderson wrote, “I know this is not exactly the ideal time to launch products, but this is a project all the craftspeople at Loewe have been lovingly working on for some time, giving life to objects that are exquisitely lively and optimistic – as craft always is. This is a happy, undeniably escapist collection, conveyed through colourful and energetic images, and I thought it might cheer you up.  As a visual feast, probably, or an aide-mémoire of better times to come. I hope you and your family

Leggings ARE Pants – Here’s How to Style Them

April 23, 2020 at 06:05PM Lately, I’ve been admiring all the great leggings outfits on Instagram. People seem to be genuinely excited to style outfits around them and sharing their looks proactively. I always find that some of my style icons who veer on the sportier side will, every so often, throw up a sports-bra mirror selfie or a quick snap after a yoga workout, but rarely are we thrilled to construct adorable looks with a tie-dye legging set. Sheltering in place has seemed to change that, and I, for one, am glad for it. Even though there’s definitely still a strong appeal behind the sweat-chic look – from white joggers to the high-waisted variation – leggings have always been a tried-and-true athleisure staple, and they’re great for a quick walk around the block, too. Some of our favorite leggings, from the likes of Everlane, H&M, and, of course, Kim Kardashian’s newly iconic Skims label, are also made with cute little details that elevate an outfit instantly. I frankly can’t wait to tuck in my white tee to Zara’s button-front pair and finish with a blazer, loafers, and headband for my next Zoom meeting (Blair Waldorf, but make it WFH fashion, am I right?). Scroll through for a few ideas, some of which have suggestions for outerwear if you do have to step out, then shop some great leggings available now. Clare Waight Keller Opens up About Creating Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding Dress

April 23, 2020 at 05:22PM It’s been almost two weeks since news broke that Clare Waight Keller was stepping down for role at the helm of Givenchy. The first woman to lead the brand in its history, Waight Keller has left an undeniable mark on the French luxury house. One of her, ahem, crowning moments was dressing Meghan Markle for her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. Today, the designer has taken to Instagram to reminisce about creating one of the most iconic wedding dresses in history. “Two years ago today I was in the final fittings for a very secret dress,” she began a lengthy post detailing the “incredibly beautiful relationship of trust and intimacy” that comes from creating a wedding dress for someone, not least the newest member of the British royal family. “So many emotions were running through me during those months leading up to the big day. A wedding dress is one of the most exquisite and beautiful moments for a designer, but also personally as a woman artist [and] creator, there is a lot of sensitivity that flows through the process from the knowledge and understanding of the feelings that you have as a bride.” Waight Keller added that the process of creating Meghan’s dress brought back memories of her own wedding 20 years prior. “You remember every moment so clearly and realize the significance of every detail and decision. In so many ways you are capturing your dreams, that as a girl and as

What’s Behind Vogue’s Rose Cover? Postcards From Kendall Jenner, Ashley Graham, and More

April 23, 2020 at 04:11PM Vogue has released a special issue titled “Our Common Thread” for its June/July 2020 feature, introduced with a powerful editor’s letter from Anna Wintour. Anna touches on the challenges our world has faced over the course of the past month and beyond, and hopes the rose she chose for the cover, an unpublished photograph called Rose ‘Colour Wonder’ by Irving Penn from 1970, paints the picture of joy and hope. “Mr. Penn’s decades of pictures for Vogue were always adept at conveying both deep emotion and journalistic acuity. I was always proud of every image of his that we published, and this one is no different. I’m also pretty sure that he would have loved it,” she wrote. “Our Common Thread” refers to the fundraising video series launched by the publication and the CFDA weeks ago – a platform where designers and industry leaders are invited to talk about how their businesses have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Hearing from the fashion world is also, appropriately, the theme of the magazine for the season. In addition to the powerful cover (it’s the first time the cover has taken the form of a still-life in more than 50 years), Vogue asked models, designers, editors, artists, celebrities, and photographers to send postcards from home that reflect their shifting routines and lives during lockdown. They are all a form of beautiful self-expression that can be appreciated for both image and text, and you’ll love reading them. When

12 Canadian-Made Soap Brands to Perk Up Your Handwashing Routine

April 23, 2020 at 03:45PM It’s quite possible humans have never talked about hand washing as much as we have in the past two months. From guidelines on how exactly to wash one’s hands to 20-second suggestions of song clips to help time it just right (A Little Bit Alexis is our personal favourite), our sink routines have become a hot topic of discussion. Blue Ivy Carter, the precocious offspring of Jay-Z and Beyonce, even got in on the action, making a video to illustrate how exactly soap helps repel bacteria and viruses. To help make the mundane task of washing our hands a few dozen times a day a bit more pleasant, we rounded up some of the best hand soap brands in Canada. Support a local brand and spice up your life-saving sink routine. A win win. Anto Yukon This small-batch body care company’s products are inspired by the Canadian wilderness and created in the founder’s Yukon studio. Locally collected and processed wild botanicals are incorporated into select soaps, oils, and salts, with all products made using only natural ingredients and scents. Even better, the colourful packaging features artwork by Meghan Hildebrand, an ex-Yukoner now based in Powell River, BC. Most of the brand’s bar soaps are named for various locations in Canada: the juniper and sage Miles Canyon, the sweet orange Atlin, the rose and patchouli Grey Mountain, the cedar and musk Clayoquot Sound.
