Summer is Fast Approaching, Here’s the Best Sun Creams for Just About Everything

April 30, 2020 at 06:30AM You want a healthy-looking tan, it’s cool, I get it. Trust me, I really do understand where you’re coming from. I also know that it’s probably not something you’re keen for everyone to know because admitting that you like spending time in the sun seems to have become a little taboo. Beauty editors and skin experts far and wide are keen to promote the message that staying out of the sun at all costs is the best way to protect your skin from premature ageing and potentially dangerous skin conditions. However, providing you’re taking the necessary measures by applying a high-factor sun cream and not spending prolonged periods of time in direct sunlight, is wanting to spend some time in the heat of the sun something to be ashamed of? The truth is, making sure that you are applying the correct sun cream in the correct way is absolutely crucial in ensuring sun safety. “From March to October, UV levels are at their highest. I would recommend applying sunscreen to any exposed skin 15 minutes before you head outdoors,” advises Consultant Dermatologist at Garnier, Dr Justine Kluk. “It is possible to burn, tan and sustain sun damage that increases your risks of skin cancer and premature ageing from just 15 minutes of casual sun exposure without the right protection.” And this is where the issue lies. In reality, very few people do apply sun cream correctly, and thus expose themselves to damage. “Many people make the mistake of

How to Give Yourself the Ultimate At-Home Pedicure

April 30, 2020 at 06:30AM If there is one thing that I have learned about myself during this period of social distancing, it’s that I really don’t take enough care of myself. As a beauty editor, this can be a hard thing to admit. You see, I do actually dedicate an hour every evening to a rather luxurious bathing session and my twice-daily skincare routine is actually quite lengthy and excessive, but when it comes to just about anything else, I’m useless. Sadly, unless I have an appointment booked to remind me, everything from my brows to my nails gets totally neglected. One area in particular that I have found myself turning a blind eye to recently is my feet. Sure, I give them a good slathering of foot cream after my nightly bath and keep my nails in check as best as I can, but am I really giving them the time and love they need? Absolutely not. Usually, at this stage, I’d book myself in for a thorough pedicure, however with salons closed, I have had to take matters into my own hands. In a bid to get my tootsies ready for summer, I reached out to my all-round nail guru (and celebrity nail artist) Jenni Draper to take me through, step by step, how to carry out the perfect at-home pedicure. This is the part of a DIY pedi that I am always keen to forgo due to its fuss and length. The truth is though, prepping the skin on your feet is

With the new normal resulting in us all staying home more than ever before, our daily clothing choices have inevitably changed. How to Create the Perfect Table Setting, According to the Experts

April 30, 2020 at 06:06AM Anna de Lanoy Meijer and Nina Poot know a thing or two about chic home interiors. After all, they are the founders of Anna + Nina, a jewellery, clothing and homewares label, where one-third of their brand is dedicated to creating intricate additions for your home interior.  Earlier this week, the co-founders took to Who What Wear UK’s Instagram to reveal their tips on how to create the ultimate table setting, and their advice was so good we couldn’t just let it disappear in 24 hours when the Live Story did. From their more-is-more aesthetic to their tips on clashing prints, below, the founders outline the ways in which they like to set their tables in order to bring that true restaurant feel to their homes. After all, as they noted on Instagram, “These days, we can not go out to a restaurant. So let’s let the restaurant come to us!”  So whether you’re in the market for a few new placemats, some talking-point cutlery, a centerpiece candle holder or simply want to know how to bring all these items together, keep scrolling for four tips on how to create the perfect table setting.  “To us, there are no rules. This Is the Trending Jeans Style for Summer—and It’s Super Comfy

April 30, 2020 at 06:00AM I don’t think there’s anything new you can say about jeans. Even if they’re not the item you wear all the time, everyone owns at least one pair. Since the 1960s, they have been a mainstay in our wardrobes—they are the piece that anchors so many of our outfits. From weekend looks to casual dinners as well as that nice-top-and-jeans ensemble, they’re the background noise of our closets. They only make a real impact if you focus on them, and they let the other pieces in your outfit shine. If, like me, you’ve spent less time in jeans, preferring to wear leggings or smart trackies as you live out lockdown, then you might be wondering why you’d even bother wearing them again. Well, firstly, this situation won’t last forever, and secondly, 2020’s summer jeans trend is comfier than you might be expecting. When I asked Natalie Kingham, fashion and buying director at MATCHESFASHION, what kind of styles are in for this coming season, she revealed that “straight-leg styles account for close to 60% of sales, but the shape generating the most growth is Boyfriend, which is +100% year on year.” The S/S 20 runways predicted that this style would be huge, as from Balenciaga to Celine and Gucci, the straight-leg looser-fit jeans were everywhere. But we don’t just take runway trends at face value. Street stylers at the shows last season were also wearing long, wider-leg styles. In terms of colours, it’s a real range

7 Influencers Who Have Perfected the Art of the Fashion Uniform

April 30, 2020 at 06:00AM How to ‘discover your personal style’ is one of those illusive #lifegoals that has been pondered by fashion magazines for decades and, undoubtedly, baffled women for an similar period of time. The way it’s phrased somehow infers that this is something that should spontaneously pop into your mind’s eye after you’ve put in the required number of hours staring blankly at your open wardrobe. The reality, however, is not quite so transactional, and some people will pin-down their ‘look’ at the age of 16, while others need a longer period of experiment to refine their taste. To be honest, there’s also nothing stopping you from constantly reinventing your style every 5 years—this is not, after all, some sort of life-long binding contract. Yet, I also can’t deny that there is something so alluring about the idea of finding your ‘uniform‘— if nothing else so you can sneak in a couple more hours in bed in the morning due to having a good sense of what works. I also think that as we move into a more sustainable future, there’s something to be said for investing in pieces that are timeless—and by that I mean styles that you’ll want to wear both now and in 5 years’ time. And no, that doesn’t have to mean becoming an austere minimalist (although that certainly makes things easier). There are plenty of print-loving editors who have stuck to their extroverted staples for decades.  It was Brittany Bathgate who triggered these contemplations on personal style. I was scrolling deep into her feed (for writing, not stalking purposes), and was impressed at how her outfits felt so consistent

25 Pyjamas That Are Ideal for Summer

April 30, 2020 at 06:00AM I’m really trying hard to not live in my pyjamas right now. But the lockdown world dictates that sometimes, even when you have the best intentions, you end up wearing your pj’s well into weekend afternoons. As for during the weekdays, while I 100% get dressed for work in “normal clothes” (and no one can make me say otherwise), the transition into my sleepwear in the evening happens the moment I finish up at my desk. What I’m saying is I live for the hours in my pj’s. They’re the comfiest and most comforting of all clothes to wear, but that’s a lot of time spent in one outfit. And with warmer weather incoming (just ignore that rain outside your window), you need a decent summer set.  Why? Well, here’s the only reason I think they’re important: They keep you cooler. Honestly, you can’t wear your thermals when it’s roasting outside. Sure, you could go for your birthday suit, but if you’re like me, you probably feel more comfortable with even a thin layer on. Behold, then, an edit of my favourite summertime pyjamas to keep you cool and fresh. And if they end up on your first Zoom call of the day, no one would guess you were wearing your pj’s.  Next up, the biggest spring/summer 2020 fashion trends you need to know.  Author Elinor Block | Whowhatwear Selected by CWC
