Your Guide to the Key Trends for Summer 2020
May 31, 2020 at 08:30PM In this new decade, throwaway trends are becoming increasingly passé, and we are all looking for clothes that will have a lasting impact within a capsule wardrobe. The spring summer 2020 runways were notably more commercial than usual, with a focus on classic legacy buys rather than whimsical and artistic creations, which could potentially fall into the fad or impractical category. Every fashion buyer I have spoken to about the fashion week in September used the word “realistic” as the overarching theme. Another buzzword for spring 2020 fashion was “wearability”—a word I am usually loathe to use to describe clothes, given it is their basic function, but it’s an adjective that keeps being used to describe the aesthetic for spring 2020. Pictured above: The Row. The headlining trends will all seamlessly transition into many of our wardrobes and stay there for the foreseeable future. One of the most in-demand items for spring, for example, is a simple blue Oxford button-down shirt by The Row, along with bodysuits, little black dresses and relaxed suiting. “Keep it simple but never boring,” is how Moda Operandi’s Lisa Aiken sums up the tone of this sensible season. “The large majority of the runway collections have been incredibly wearable, the brands have showcased the ultimate wardrobing heroes in a new and interesting way: the suit, the Bermuda short, the white shirt, the tank top…” says Elizabeth von der Goltz, Global Buying Director at Net-a-Porter. Aurora James Calls on Corporations to Buy 15% of Products From Black-Owned Businesses
May 31, 2020 at 08:06PM Amid nationwide protests in response to the death of George Floyd, designer Aurora James of Brother Vellies issued a powerful call to action, asking major corporations to support Black-owned businesses with a 15 percent pledge. Aurora shared her plea on Instagram on Saturday night, specifically directed toward Target, Whole Foods, MedMen, Net-a-Porter, Home Depot, Sephora, Barnes & Noble, and Saks Fifth Avenue. The first slide of her post is a handwritten message: “OK, here’s one thing you can do for us . . .” “So many of your businesses are built on Black spending power,” she wrote in the following slides and in the post’s caption. “So many of your stores are set up in Black communities. So many of your sponsored posts are seen on Black feeds. This is the least you can do for us. We represent 15% of the population and we need to represent 15% of your shelf space.” “We represent 15% of the population and we need to represent 15% of your shelf space.” Aurora used Whole Foods as an example, and explained its commitment would send support back to Black farmers from every level: they’d be legitimized in the eyes of banks and investors, and small businesses would have more opportunity for growth. “Real investment will start happening in Black businesses which will subsequently be paid forward into our Black communities,” she wrote. As a businesswoman, Aurora understands the complexities of this challenge. “I have sold millions of dollars
25 Pyjamas That Are Ideal for Summer
May 31, 2020 at 06:00PM I’m really trying hard to not live in my pyjamas right now. But the lockdown world dictates that sometimes, even when you have the best intentions, you end up wearing your PJ’s well into weekend afternoons. As for during the weekdays, while I 100% get dressed for work in “normal clothes” (and no one can make me say otherwise), the transition into my sleepwear in the evening happens the moment I finish up at my desk. What I’m saying is, I live for the hours in my PJ’s. They’re the comfiest and most comforting of all clothes to wear, but that’s a lot of time spent in one outfit. And with warmer weather incoming (just ignore that rain outside your window), you need a decent summer set. Alexa wears Alexachung Ebeneezer Nightshirt (£75). Why? Well, here’s the only reason I think they’re important: They keep you cooler. Honestly, you can’t wear your thermals when it’s roasting outside. Sure, you could go for your birthday suit, but if you’re like me, you probably feel more comfortable with even a thin layer on. Behold, then, an edit of my favourite summertime pyjamas to keep you cool and fresh. And if they end up on your first Zoom call of the day, no one would guess you were wearing your PJ’s. Next up, the biggest spring/summer 2020 fashion trends you need to know. Author Elinor Block | Whowhatwear Selected by CWC

Here Are All the Businesses Standing in Support of the Black Lives Matter Movement
May 31, 2020 at 05:59PM As protests continue across the U.S. and world following the murder of Minneapolis man George Floyd by police officer Derek Chauvin, many companies are releasing statements about the Black Lives Matter movement. As these protests grow and cities including Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta institute curfews, more companies, as well as celebrities, are using their platforms to stand with the protesters who are standing up against police violence—including the violence taking place at the demonstrations. “Like so many of you, I’m pained by these recent tragedies,” Michelle Obama wrote in a statement on Friday. “And I’m exhausted by a heartbreak that never seems to stop. Right now it’s George, Breonna, and Ahmaud. Before that it was Eric, Sandra, and Michael. It just goes on, and on, and on. Race and racism is a reality that so many of us grow up learning to just deal with. But if we ever hope to move past it, it can’t just be on people of color to deal with it. It’s up to all of us—Black, white, everyone—no matter how well-meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out.” Here is a list of the companies who are standing in solidarity with the movement and the protests. This post will be updated. Glossier The beauty company released a statement on its Instagram and Twitter accounts, which read, in part: We stand in solidarity with the fight against systemic racism, white supremacy, and the historic oppression of the Black community. May 31, 2020 at 01:00PM Canadian skincare line P{H}ASE SKIN makes its mark during a global pandemic View this post on Instagram Keep your skin balanced through any phase of life. No matter what is going on around you, give yourself and your skin some extra love. Our P{H}ASE II Menopause Serum is enriched with fatty acids, vitamins and minerals to keep skin revitalized and nourished. #phaseskin #skincareproducts A post shared by P{H}ASE SKIN (@myphaseskin) on May 17, 2020 at 6:22am PDT //www.instagram.com/embed.js The brainchild of two Toronto-based female entrepreneurs who leveraged their background in skincare science, P{H}ASE SKIN is an edited, four-piece skincare line that’s formulated using innovative skin mapping and biochemistry to work in tandem with, and adapt to, the hormonal changes in a woman’s natural cycle, whether that be menstrual, perimenopausal or menopausal. Why? Because it’s no myth that hormonal fluctuations can have a big effect on our skin. For instance, there’s the P{H}ASE Kit ($82), a three-step system for women who are menstruating, which consists of the P{H}ASE 1 Nourish Hydrating Repair Serum (recommended for the first nine days of one’s cycle), the P{H}ASE 2 Glow Exfoliating Solution (for the next eight days) and finally P{H}ASE 3 Rebalance Skin Rebalancing Cream (for the last nine days). There’s also the P{H}ASE II Menopause Serum ($88) that works specifically to target collagen production and promote lost hydration in mature skin. P{H}ASE SKIN’s ingredients list is also quite impressive, with potent actives, like hyaluronic acid, ginseng root extract, aloe
