How To Avoid The 6 Mask-Related Skincare Issues According To Facialists
May 07, 2020 at 11:10AM We know this is not the spring accessory report you were hoping for, but this is the one we’ve got. Face masks are now required by the CDC in some states and most of us are doing whatever we can to protect our health and our communities by wearing them. Earlier this month, we shared this DIY for making a mask at home. However, the foreign experience of wearing a mask for hours at a time — or much longer, if you’re a healthcare worker — could potentially take a toll on your face and skin. We’re taking a closer look at mask-related skincare issues with a few facialists and doctors that we trust. Whether you are a nurse who has already been wearing a mask days on end or are quarantined at home and just exploring mask use for the first time, we hope that these skincare tips will help you to avoid any of the issues becoming common during this pandemic. According to the Washington Post, “mask wearing can worsen existing primary skin diseases, such as seborrheic dermatitis, or red scaly skin, rosacea, or red patches and visible blood vessels, eczema, an itchy inflammation, and perioral dermatitis, an acnelike redness around the mouth.” For doctors and nurses, the friction and pressure of wearing a face mask for days at a time can cause issues ranging from mild irritation to actual tissue damage. Avoiding any potential open wounds is key right now and we’ve
How To Build A Joy Box: 30 Items That Will Trigger Your Mood For The Better
May 07, 2020 at 11:05AM Yesterday, we spoke with joy strategist and music biz maven, Grace Harry (read the story). In our interview, Grace reminded us about the detrimental effects of stress on our health and argues that the effects of joy can be just as powerful. One of the tools Grace uses with clients is a “joy toolbox” — a simple practice of keeping a small collection of items and ideas that will instantly trigger joy. We love this idea for mental and emotional health right now and thought we’d list out some great suggestions for ways to build your very own. Grace suggests building your toolbox and dipping into it every morning. For us, the idea of saving our tool box for days we experience an emotional slump is also appealing. Create the rituals that suit you best. Here are our suggestions… 16 Items For Your Joy Toolbox We suggest you select just 3 – 7 items below to build your toolbox. A box works, but an envelope, tray, small area of your home or bedside or desk works just as well! personal affirmation | Grace suggests these first four items and this one could be the most important. I’m 45, and These Beauty Products Make My Skin Glow Like Crazy
May 07, 2020 at 10:30AM A decade ago, the term ageing was practically a swear word. To ask a woman her age was (and, who knows, still might be) among the most tasteless questions anyone could utter. We’ve come a long way since then, but the truth is that our culture is still woefully youth-obsessed. Don’t get us wrong: Progress has been made. Among the many areas of the beauty industry that have changed for the better is the newfound sense of community and conversation dedicated to sharing the products and practices we’re each using to stay looking our best for longer. No longer are women hoarding their skincare secrets under lock and key. We’re sharing, we’re learning and best of all, more than ever, we’re prioritising healthy, happy skin and bodies over all else. Enter Catherine McCord, author and founder of family-friendly, health-conscious food community Weelicious. Not only is the 45-year-old mother of three a former model who graced the covers of major glossies and walked runways for the biggest labels, but she’s also got a wealth of knowledge about building an inner and outer skincare regimen that makes for radiant, glowing skin. Here, McCord shares her take on the generational shift from prioritising matte skin to prioritising dewy skin, the importance of applying skincare products on your neck and chest and embracing all of the oils. Read on for her skincare and makeup routines that keep her skin glowing, and be sure to note the age-old beauty tips she’s picked up from
Your Guide to the Key Trends for Spring/Summer 2020
May 06, 2020 at 07:00PM In this new decade, throwaway trends are becoming increasingly passé, and we are all looking for clothes that will have a lasting impact within a capsule wardrobe. The spring summer 2020 runways were notably more commercial than usual, with a focus on classic legacy buys rather than whimsical and artistic creations, which could potentially fall into the fad or impractical category. Every fashion buyer I have spoken to about the fashion week in September used the word “realistic” as the overarching theme. Another buzzword for spring 2020 fashion is “wearability”—a word I am usually loathe to use to describe clothes, given it is their basic function, but it’s an adjective that keeps being used to describe the aesthetic for spring 2020. Pictured above: The Row. The headlining trends will all seamlessly transition into many of our wardrobes and stay there for the foreseeable future. One of the most in-demand items for spring, for example, is a simple blue Oxford button-down shirt by The Row, along with bodysuits, little black dresses and relaxed suiting. “Keep it simple but never boring,” is how Moda Operandi’s Lisa Aiken sums up the tone of this sensible season. “The large majority of the runway collections have been incredibly wearable, the brands have showcased the ultimate wardrobing heroes in a new and interesting way: the suit, the Bermuda short, the white shirt, the tank top…” says Elizabeth von der Goltz, Global Buying Director at Net-a-Porter.
