May 05, 2020 at 06:30AM In times like these, keeping on top of what’s new in beauty can seem a little bit tricky. All of the big advertising campaigns that we usually rely on to keep us in the loop are on hold, and new products seem to be trickling onto online retailers almost silently. And if I’m finding it tricky as a beauty editor, I think it’s safe to assume everyone else is struggling too. It makes sense, therefore, that now more so than ever, we’re turning to Instagram to get our beauty news and do our browsing. So while I am all for utilising the likes of Instagram to discover new beauty treasures, I am also very aware of the pitfalls of doing so. You see, while Instagram is a great way to gather valuable first-hand reviews of products, it does also tend to champion the prettier, more aesthetically pleasing ones—and we all know that pretty doesn’t always equal good. Because of this, it’s easy to be sceptical when it comes to shopping for beauty on Instagram. Before you add anything to your basket, it’s important to take a look at the ingredients and rule out any chance that its social media success is down to style and not substance. However, because I know that we don’t have all the time in the world to scroll through the ingredient lists of everything we buy, I have taken it upon myself to do some investigating. In a bid to cut

If You Miss Handbags, Here Are 9 to Put a Smile on Your Face
May 05, 2020 at 06:06AM This might seem like a really odd statement to be writing on a fashion website, but I have to admit I miss handbags. Like a lot. Since London went into a full lockdown the last week of March, I haven’t used a single one, and while I’m no Kylie Jenner (who has a closet full of Birkins), I do feel like my few treasured accessories deserve a day out. Back in early March—before the world started adhering to the rules of social distancing—the team here at Who What Wear took to the streets in order to trial summer’s most coveted handbag trends. And if, like us, you too are missing your carryall, you are in for a treat. From Shrimps’ beaded iterations to soft fabric styles courtesy of Rejina Pyo and The Row, this season is shaping up to be bold where handbags are concerned. Between mock croc and leopard print, floral patterns and lime-green shades, the bags of summer 2020 are supposed to make a statement. And even with nowhere to go, these small additions can act as the mood-boosting accessories you need to see you through your walk around the park or quick dash to the shops. Of course, when you find something as cute as By Far’s mini shoulder bag, you’ll find any excuse to use it. Handbags may be getting less use than usual, but that does not make them any less lust-worthy. Keep scrolling for nine handbags trends that are sure to put a smile
20 (Actually Cool) Craft Kits to Do This Bank Holiday
May 05, 2020 at 06:00AM At the beginning of this year, if you had told me I would be including a crochet kit and a jigsaw in one of my Who What Wear shopping stories, I wouldn’t have believed you. But not much of 2020 has gone as we all would have predicted back in January. Our editors are still keeping you updated with dress edits and our insights on the trends impacting our wardrobes, of course, but my own personal shopping list has broadened this month, and so I felt like I had to do a more, erm, crafty edit to reflect my own browsing. Instead of looking at shoes and dresses, I’m finding myself eyeing up pasta-making machines and crochet sets. As many are looking for things to do at home other than watch Normal People and make banana bread, there has been a surge in interest for crafts and activities you can quickly pick up at home. So if you want to try and pick up a new hobby, below you’ll find plenty of things to keep you occupied this bank holiday weekend. Partnerships Editions has launched a set of collage kits and has Instagram live sessions each week with its resident artists if you want to try drawing or painting. If you want to keep things more fashion-related, Wool and the Gang does amazing knitted and crochet kits that are even manageable for beginners. Keep scrolling for our edit of the things to keep you occupied this bank holiday. Next up, see

5 Ways To Wear a Tank Top and Still Look Polished
May 05, 2020 Dressing over the course of the last few weeks has had an interesting effect on the way we see our wardrobes, specifically it has highlighted which pieces are the most versatile and hard-working, and which are not. Interestingly, the tank top has emerged as one of the more unlikely heroes of our WFH capsule, and if Instagram is anything to go by, we’re not the only ones who think so. While the power of a well-made basic is hardly breaking news, we’ve particularly enjoyed the streamlined aesthetic of the classic white racer-back tank, which has offered a sporty alternative to the boxy-fit tees that have proliferated over the last few years. This is a top that was made to be tucked into high-waisted trousers, floaty midi skirt and knitted joggers, and even layered under dresses and shirts. In other words, it’s a serious wardrobe workhorse. Casting off its previous low-key associations, in the confines of our homes the tank has been able to take on a more elevated role, and we’ve tried beautifying it with colourful prints, elegant jewellery and even the odd heeled mule. Of course, the idea of fancy-fying their humble vest top might not be appealing to everyone, but if you’re craving comfort with just a hint of polish, keep scrolling to see the fun tank top outfits we’re copying this May. Anna Wintour’s Home Office Has It All: Beautiful Flowers, Funky Frames, and Every Single Issue of Vogue
May 05, 2020 at 12:23AM Roughly 12,500 people tuned into “A Moment With the Met,” Vogue‘s short-lived virtual YouTube event that celebrated the first Monday in May. After a history of the Costume Institute, Anna Wintour removed her signature dark sunglasses to address us. She talked about the “About Time” themed Met exhibit, set to open in October, A Common Thread (a video series launched with the CFDA as a platform where up-and-coming designers can talk about their struggles and shifting routines), and her well wishes for the world. “This is a time of grief and of hardship for millions, and the postponement of a party is nothing in comparison,” she said. Anna went on to ask viewers to donate to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, if they’re able. It does feel rather odd to see Anna Wintour on the first evening in May wearing a simpler victorian-inspired dress with ruffles and a marble print, rather than a glamorous rose-covered gown; perhaps something in jacquard, to match her daughter Bee (who always joins her on the red carpet). The sliver lining? We got a glimpse into Anna’s home office, which, as we now know, is lined with a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf filled with what appears to be every single issue of American Vogue (presumably since she took the reigns at the magazine in 1988). Anna coordinated with her surroundings beautifully, of course, allowing the pops of color in the room – a brushstroke painted vase, a chic vintage desk, and some
The Only Thing Dreamier Than Florence Welch’s Dress During Her Virtual Met Performance Is Her Wallpaper
May 05, 2020 at 12:10AM Florence Welch was the star of the show during Vogue‘s virtual event A Moment With the Met, which streamed exclusively on YouTube. Since The Costume Institute’s spring 2020 Met Gala exhibition “About Time: Fashion and Duration” is postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the magazine honored the first Monday in May with a live streaming digital fashion event. Along with fundraising for the Met’s Costume Institute and the CFDA’s A Common Thread initiative, Vogue is encouraging viewers to make a donation if possible. After a message from Vogue‘s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, Florence came on the screen to sing “You’ve Got the Love” in a beige silk gown that had a bow accent. The singer accessorized the long-sleeved dress with a bunch of gold rings and tied her hair up in an elegant braid crown. While she was singing, we also got a glimpse of Florence’s house and we couldn’t help but stare at the gorgeous wallpaper she was standing in front of. The dreamy wallpaper featured drawings of different types of trees, swans, and reindeer all next to a lake. It was the perfect backdrop to show off her angelic voice. Keep reading to get a closer look at Florence’s outfit – and interior – ahead.
