It’s the difference between a good day and a bad day.” Truer words were never spoken than in Fleabag’s speech to maligned hairdresser Anthony. But how do you avoid that bad hair day? As someone who’s been blessed (and sometimes cursed) with naturally curly hair, my theory is you need to start with the basics and by that I mean a great shampoo. As I’ve got a particular sort of hair, I decided to ask the rest of the Who What Wear editors about the shampoos they rate. Among our team are women with curly, straight and wavy hair. May 28, 2020 at 06:30AM I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: My biggest beauty gripe is chipped nail varnish. And I’m saying this as I sit here typing away with bright, poppy red nails that are well overdue removal (I’m a hypocrite, okay?!). However, the first thing on my agenda this evening when I clock off is to get this varnish off my nails and repaint them so that they look fresh, neat and, well, polished. You see, the problem with opting for bright nails is that it doesn’t wear particularly well. And that is the very reason that around two years ago I swapped my signature red polish for a more understated look. I discovered that opting for a blush shade that is close to my natural nail colour creates a fresh, pretty, glossy finish that, most importantly, doesn’t show any obvious chips or smudges. Since discovering my love for bare-look nails, it’s fair to say that I have amassed quite the collection of blush nude polishes. However, there is one particular polish that I find myself reaching for more often than not, and that is Essie Ballet Slippers (£8). Glossy, long-lasting and incredibly easy to apply, Essie formulas have been a favourite of mine for years, and Ballet Slippers is no exception. With restrictions on social gatherings and forced closures of pubs, bars and restaurants, we all literally have nowhere to go, though that certainly hasn’t stopped our favourite influencers and It girls from continuing to dress up. Between shimmering minidresses and floral embellished midis, influencers worldwide are persisting with putting on their finest even if it is simply to bake a cake, work from home or lounge on the couch. Historically, I have never prioritised the need for elevated or polished-looking loungewear, choosing to instead spend my money on clothing I’d wear outside of the house. Up until now (I am embarrassed to admit), I have resorted to mostly wearing loungewear in the form of tattered joggers and oversize T-shirts, though there’s nothing like a lockdown to help change my mind.  In recent months, I’ve found myself drawn to smarter looking loungewear pieces and, in particular, have been browsing coordinated sets in an effort to create looks that feel slightly more cohesive than the old leggings and any-jumper-you-can-find combo. May 28, 2020 at 06:00AM Like most people at the moment, I am being very cautious with my spending and certainly don’t want within my role as a fashion editor to promote buying anything throwaway or needless (for both financial and sustainable reasons). With every story I write, I’m always looking to feature items that have longevity and will outlive the rapid trend cycle that can make certain items dated after mere months. For summer, there are a few basics in particular that I would like to add to my own wardrobe, as they are timeless but not so plain that they could be considered boring. They are also all practical and things you can wear at home, on a balcony or in the garden and not feel too dressed up when you have nowhere to technically go. Personally, I keep wearing linen shirts, comfortable shorts and throw-on dresses for my walks around my corner of London. May 28, 2020 at 06:00AM First thing’s first: Yes, I do acknowledge the irony of offering up a swimwear edit while many of us are in lockdown and our holiday plans have been put on ice. Well, I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve found myself poring over the latest bikini drops, and I’m even adding a couple to my basket. Weird, right?
