May 22, 2020 at 01:06PM With spring now officially here, our outfits are set to be in a period of transition. While many of us are currently living in the comfort of leggings and tracksuits, it’s hard not to mentally plan the outfits we’ll wear once life returns to normal. For me, I know I’ll be re-wearing many of my old favourites and utilising the outfits I’ve loved in the past. And although it can seem boring to repeat the same looks time and time again, I’ve gained a few tricks over the years to help me feel fresh even when I’m wearing the same combination of items. Enter accessories. Whether it be a bold, printed scarf, a statement belt, some eye-catching jewellery or a pair of jazzy socks, accessories have to ability to transform your entire outfit. For example, a white T-shirt looks completely anew once adorned with a few layers of gold chains, and adding a wide, waist-cinching belt over your favourite dress can give it an entirely new aesthetic. Pairing printed tights or fun socks against your favourite sandals can add interest to an outfit, as can throwing a silk scarf over your shoulders or tying one around your waist. With this in mind, keep scrolling for the four accessories I use to make old outfits feel new again. Next up, the biggest S/S 20 fashion trends you need to know. Friday Faves
May 22, 2020 at 11:28AM Hi friends! Happy Friday. I hope that you’re having a lovely morning. My joyous full-body rash is starting to disappear but is now itching like crazy. I’m really hoping this thing is gone soon! Thank you to those of you who let me know that you had Pityriasis Rosea in the past and it does indeed go away. It’s been an interesting addition to my life to say the least lol. We’ve been hanging out here at the house, went swimming at my dad’s (it was perfection) and I also took the girls to jump at Defy for the first time in months. We had almost the entire place to ourselves (just one other kid P’s age) and they jumped their little hearts out. It was nice to do an activity that felt “normal” amidst everything that’s been going on. I hope you have a relaxing and fun weekend ahead! We’ll be dragging the tent out and doing Liv’s school drive-by parade today. It definitely isn’t how I envisioned wrapping up the school year, but I’m so proud of her for cranking through all of the distance learning assignments and thankful to all of the hardworking teachers who put everything together. It’s time for the weekly Friday Faves party! This is where I share some faves from the week and around the web. I love hearing about your faves, too, if you’d like to shout out something you’re loving in the comments section below. Read,
I’m a Beauty Editor, and I Never Learned These Basic Makeup Skills Until Now
May 22, 2020 at 11:30AM As a beauty editor, I like to think that I know a thing or two about, well, beauty. I can recite product formulas and ingredient lists without fault and can go into quite intense detail about dermal layers and how your current skincare routine might be affecting them (anyone?). However, there is one area which, when quizzed on, my expertise begins to falter. And that is makeup technique. When it comes to makeup, I like a slightly more natural finish that takes no longer than 10 minutes to apply. I like a natural glow, flushed cheeks, unruly brows and freckles. However, that’s not to say that I don’t appreciate the more artistic makeup looks. In fact, I often stare on in awe when watching people execute a razor-sharp liner flick on public transport and have been known to sit in front of YouTube for hours attempting to teach myself how to contour my nose. Before makeup application. The truth is there are just far too many makeup tricks I can’t master. And in all honesty I feel like a bit of a beauty editor phoney. I can’t give advice on how to achieve the perfect winged liner, I don’t fully understand what makes a great contour powder, and don’t even think about asking me how to best apply false lashes. So since I’ve been spending a little (a lot) more time at home, I decided that now is as good a time as any to sit down and really teach
Staying At Home: Inside the Tiny Canal Cottage with Whitney Leigh Morris
May 22, 2020 at 11:00AM We’ve honestly been having a great time producing our first IGTV videos during quarantine. On one hand, we’ve actually wanted to watch more IGTV ourselves and, on the other, lowering the stakes on quality while we all deal with the limitations of being at home has made the videos way more fun to make! Last week, I asked author and consultant, Whitney Leigh Morris to hop on to IGTV to give us a few insights about living well while at home. Many of us are living in more constricted spaces, whether that means carving out more home office space or just sharing more communal living time with friends or family members. Whitney, her husband, son and a two adorable rescue beagles know a lot about small space living. The foursome live in the ‘Tiny Canal Cottage’, an incredibly beautiful, under 400 square foot home on the Venice Canals that we have featured many times here on TCM. Whitney offered all of the above clever, creative ideas for making the most out of small spaces and if you’re feeling that monochromatic, natural look she’s got going on, you can check out more of it here on her Instagram feed. Enjoy her tips in the video above, then check out all these stories we’ve done with Whitney in the past! Ever Tried To Make Sauerkraut At Home? Here’s Why You Should
May 22, 2020 at 11:00AM Tangy. Crunchy. Teeming with gut-friendly bacteria. Sauerkraut is one of our favorite probiotic-rich foods. Not into it? You probably haven’t tried it homemade! This homemade sauerkraut recipe from our friends at Free People is as delicious as it is pretty — and she’s definitely a looker. Anti-inflammatory turmeric gives the kraut a gorgeous golden hue. An assortment of veggies make this recipe more fun than your standard, and the addition of apples is a bright and delicious surprise. Make a batch of this homemade sauerkraut when you’re feeling crafty or have extra farmers market veggies that need to be used up. Pile it high on veggie bowls, in wraps and by the forkful… Not just a condiment anymore, this sour shredded cabbage dish is perfect for accompanying sandwiches, salads, to top off rice, or to savor on its own. Before beginning your batch, keep in mind that cleanliness throughout the fermentation process is very important. Hot water and soap is sufficient for cleaning jars and measuring tools, but ensure that they are rinsed completely. Soap residue can inhibit the growth of the beneficial bacteria that you are trying to manifest. (This process is different then “canning” when you are pasteurizing and killing all of the beneficial bacteria that naturally occurs on vegetables. In that process it is important to completely sterilize jars.) An equally important consideration when making your own fermented foods? HAVE FUN! Your only assurance should be utilizing the correct ratio of salt in

9 Initiatives That Make Me Proud to Work in Fashion Right Now
May 22, 2020 at 09:00AM The fashion industry isn’t just a frivolous occupation. Despite family, friends and acquaintances asking me with more frequency than I care to admit, it’s not The Devil Wears Prada or Ugly Betty. Yes, people do wear the latest designer bags and our wardrobes can seem excessive. I may have even seen an editor or three have a meltdown, but fashion is so much more than expensive clothes. Fashion is the place where history, culture and art meet. It is representative of people, places and important moments in time. It denotes seismic changes in society and gives a means of expression to people who feel marginalised. This isn’t hyperbole—fashion has often been a route for women to gain emancipation. In the ’60s, hemlines became progressively shorter. While they had been rising for some time, it collided with an important time for women and the introduction of the birth control pill in 1961. Mary Quant even said it was the beginning of women’s liberation movement. Punk, grunge, emo and countless other trends that eventually went mainstream all started as counter-cultures helping to represent those who felt they didn’t have a voice. More than ever it is looking inward and wondering how it can help others. The past 15 years have seen the exponential rise of fast fashion and has cemented the fashion industry as one of the most polluting in the world. But if there is a silver lining to find during the global pandemic, it’s that this has encouraged
