Catherine O’Hara Lounging Poolside For a Drone Photo Shoot Is the Ultimate Summer Mood
May 21, 2020 at 11:25PM Leave it to Catherine O’Hara to flawlessly encapsulate the exact level of extra I’m trying to be this summer – with an at-home spin, of course. For Vanity Fair‘s June issue, the Schitt’s Creek star got in touch with her inner Moira Rose, posing for a glamorous photo shoot captured via drone. And yes, multiple wigs and fancy clothes were involved. I mean, does it get much more quintessentially Moira than that?! The iconic actress suited up in various luxe outfits, including both designer pieces and items from her personal closet, for the shoot, which took place in her spacious, woodsy backyard. While lounging poolside for the frame-worthy drone snaps, Catherine looked divine in a speckled Cruella de Vil-esque fur coat by Balenciaga, worn with her own black one-piece swimsuit and a black bob wig reminiscent of the one Moira wears for her Jazzagals audition. Later on, posing for socially distant pictures by her lemon tree, she rocked a hot pink Balenciaga jacket with her own black boots and a short platinum blonde hairpiece much like Moira’s wig from the (canceled) Poison concert episode in season five. Oh, the memories! During the magazine spread’s interview, Catherine opened up about her time as the Rose family’s matriarch, her many auditions gone wrong, and so much more. Head to Vanity Fair‘s website to read the full story and see even more stunning snaps from the star’s aspirational backyard photo shoot. Related: I Just Really Need to Talk
Why a Slip Dress and Sneakers Is My New Favorite Outfit
May 21, 2020 at 11:15PM To be honest, it happened on accident. I had decided to give up sweatpants altogether and make use of the rest of my wardrobe. Though I hadn’t visited the slip-dress section in quite a few months, I felt the urge to wear something sensual and sexy, even while working from home. With the temperature rising, I made my decision: a slip dress it was. Every day, my partner and I take a social-distancing walk around the neighborhood, and that’s when I teamed the aforementioned slip dress with sneakers, because slippers aren’t exactly functional for an activity that involves getting from point A to point B (though in my most recent experience, point A is always the bedroom and point B is always the kitchen). Upon checking myself out in the elevator mirror, I realized I really loved my look. It felt effortless and sporty, but a slip is such a feminine, boudoir-inspired piece. My outfit said, “I can take on the world right now – I can spend time in my home and also get some fresh air outside with just two really simple basics from my closet.” While a lot of people think of their sneakers as the answer to bike shorts and joggers right now and their slips to be reserved for date night only, I’m here to challenge the notion. Ahead, evidence that this combination doesn’t just work but also works well. Related: These 2-Step Easy Outfits Are Cute and Comfortable –
All the Times Blair and Serena’s Coordinated Outfits Made Them TV’s Most Stylish BFFs
May 21, 2020 at 10:45PM Name a more stylish TV duo than Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen; I’ll wait. While some may say the women of Sex and the City are the most stylish BFFs to hit the airwaves, I have to strongly disagree and say it’s Blair and Serena. Not only do the two of them wear a slew of fashion designers ranging from Chanel to YSL, but they also know how to accessorize the heck out of a school uniform, and that, my friends, takes talent. While rewatching the show in preparation for the spinoff airing on HBO Max, I noticed that there are plenty of moments where Leighton Meester and Blake Lively‘s characters are spotted on the Upper East Side wearing coordinated looks. The scene where they run around New York City dressed up in matching backless dresses designed by Blair’s mother is one that will forever be cemented in my memory. (I know I’m not the only one who tried to replicate those photos with my best friend in high school!) From matching plaid skirts and tights to breezy, coordinated summer outfits, I’m counting down all of the times this duo prove they are the most stylish best friends on TV. Ahead, I put together a shopping guide of the comfiest dresses online, all with pockets. You’ll find some great options from Free People, Amazon, Nordstrom, Lou & Grey, and more. The Lesser-Known Sandal Brand Every Fashion Girl Loves
May 21, 2020 at 09:00PM Sometimes, the unexpected trends turn out to be the best, and that’s certainly true of Velcro-strap sandals. Our obsession began last summer when a host of influencers started sporting them with everything from midi dresses to cropped jeans. Initially, Teva was the brand that proved victorious, as its black, minimalistic sandals proceeded to sell out within a couple of weeks. Then it was Suicoke sandals, which took the baton. Founded in 2006, the cult Japanese label had incongruous beginnings crafting small wooden ornaments before transitioning into footwear. Boasting foam soles and cushioned velcro straps, Suicoke swiftly gained momentum in its country of origin as a key name in the shoe world. Today, its international profile is continually growing, though it still remains relatively under the radar on Brit soil. Most recently, the brand has done a collab with one of our other favourite labels right now: Cecilie Bahnsen, who created a small range of floral-embellished Velcro sandals. Keep scrolling to see just some of the ways people are wearing their Suicoke sandals, and then shop our favourite pairs for yourself. Make like Adriana and stick to a muted colour palette to ensure your Suicoke sandals look sleek. Use them to give your tailored pieces a cool edge, much like Andria. They look just as good paired with dresses, as evidenced on Brittany. Coordinate a coloured pair of Suicoke sandals to your top like Katie for a look that’s instantly pulled together. We love how Ellie has clashed her purple Suicoke
This New COVID-19 Relief Merch Collection is Designed as a Message of Hope for Toronto
May 21, 2020 at 09:53PM As COVID-19 continues to impact our world, brands continue to find ways to give back to the community at a much-needed time. From Aritzia’s sponsor packages for frontline healthcare workers, to fashion brands designing face masks with charitable giveback elements, there’s been an outpouring of support from brands and consumers alike since the pandemic began. Now, a new initiative has popped up called See You Soon Toronto. The brainchild of graphic artist Ben Johnston, developer Brian Brown and etalk reporter Tyrone Edwards, the five-piece See You Soon Toronto merch collection was designed as a sort of cool love letter to the city to aid COVID-19 relief efforts. The collection includes two T-shirts, two sweaters and an art print – 100 per cent of the proceeds from the sales of the items will be distributed among various beneficiaries working to support frontline workers, hospitality staff and mental health support services in the six, including Feed the Frontlines TO and Fred Victor. Speaking with FASHION about the initiative, Brown explained, “We are truly fortunate to be living in the City of Toronto. It’s a world class city! COVID-19 was something that nobody could have predicted – it was like someone just shut the tap off in the economy. It cut us off from sports, music, restaurants and so many other things that had become a part of our daily life and it put such a strain on others like those in the healthcare industry. So we knew
Make Nourishing Meals During Quarantine With These Easy Tips
May 21, 2020 at 09:34PM Faryn Thompson, founder of an online food resource called Fair Fare, has just released an e-cookbook titled Nourish filled with, yes, nourishing recipes that are uncomplicated enough to make with ease during quarantine. “The whole point of the e-book is to keep things simple, not feel intimidated, and encourage people to be inspired and confident to create on their own, and use these recipes as a guideline,” says Thompson. Based in Toronto, where she grew up cooking and gardening, Thompson travelled to Bali in 2019 to study permaculture, a design system for ecological and sustainable farming. The experience renewed her interest in growing her own food and exploring the connection between gardening and eating, leading her to launch Fair Fare in February 2020. “Growing your own food, cooking simple meals, and using more natural products is a way to care for yourself,” says Thompson. “A lot of us are disconnected from the the products we buy to eat, but there’s something so powerful about growing your own food. You don’t need a huge garden—you can even just start sprouting your own seeds in a little Tupperware container or mason jar. It’s as easy as buying seeds from your local grocery store or garden centre, planting them in soil as per the package instructions and finding a sunny spot on your counter for them to thrive.” Read on for more tips from Thompson on how to provide and experience nourishment during this challenging time, as well
