Here’s What We Think of Lena Dunham’s ‘Well Enough’ Campaign
May 14, 2020 at 11:06AM During this time of overwhelming change, we’ve been hitting Instagram in a new way. We’ve muted a couple of those FOMO-inducing accounts and have done our best to flood your feed with messages to help ground and support you while we’re all at home. On one of our many Insta’ benders, we came across this post from creative multi-hyphenate, Lena Dunham explaining her own mental health struggles in a way we could all relate to. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Lena’s new #WellEnough hashtag is the message we all need right now. Since our own brand tagline is ‘a guide to living well’, Lena’s hashtag stood out to us. ‘Well enough’ — no message could be more spot on for this time and season. Although the term ‘wellness’ has often been misconstrued by brands and individuals looking to hijack their way in to anything that’s trending, wellness is a term that has helped us to define personal well-being beyond just our physical ‘health’ and on into areas of mental and emotional balance that make us up as a whole. Here’s what Lena shared on Instagram: “During this time, I’ve seen a lot of posts about how to be as efficient as the Google staff, how to exercise using, like, a can of beans, and how to cook very complex grainy breads and just generally fill our days with accomplishments. But I know for many people, like me, this just isn’t how life is. Every
The Best Way to Eat to Ward Off a Virus. Hands Down.
May 14, 2020 at 11:03AM We trust Donna Gates M.Ed., ABAAHP of Body Ecology implicitly when it comes to our health — gut health, especially. As one of our long-time health contributors, Gates, like so many of our other friends in wellness, offered to share insights to help us all optimize our immunity in this important time. Donna’s legacy includes coining the phrase “inner ecosystem” to describe the still undiscovered network of microbes in our gut, now called the “microbiome.” The connection between our gut and immune systems is now one of the most important health studies of our time. Her advice below provides useful guidance to help us ward off viruses and keep our body’s in tip-top shape right now… I’ve been on a mission for the past 30 years to change the way the world eats. And I’ve worked with hundreds of thousands of people helping them treat a multitude of issues that throw off their inner ecology. Viruses, being antibiotic resistant, have always been tricky. Whether that be Epstein Barr, Herpes, Flu, Covid-19, they’re opportunistic, and if given the opportunity to pounce, they will. So how are they given the opportunity to wreak havoc? An acidic environment with an immune system that is compromised. Alkalizing the body, lowering inflammation and focusing on creating a robust immune system, are hands down the best ways to close the door on an opportunistic virus like Covid-19. Let’s go over how to do that. Donna Gate’s Antiviral Nutrition Protocol Think of a
These Tan Drops Will Give a Natural Sun-Kissed Glow
May 14, 2020 at 11:00AM Whatever time of year it is, we all crave that “just got back from holiday” glow, don’t we? Whether it’s not having to wear as much make-up or simply just feeling like our best selves, the benefits of having a freshly bronzed glow can’t be underestimated. At this point, we’ve made it through winter and would normally be starting to get some rays of vitamin D again. The sun may be shining, but we’re all finding ourselves in a very unusual situation where we’re having to limit our time outside. We must, then, get resourceful. When we asked you all what you wanted to read from us during this strange time, a lot of you answered with at-home beauty tips, and easy pick-me-ups. We brainstormed and one of the most simple steps our team has been relying on in their at-home beauty routines is tanning drops. And it’s not just us, this week we’ve also seen so many of our favourite women on Instagram sharing their self-tanning routines as a way to perk up their mood and give a little boost of confidence. Yes, it may be a very small, self-indulgent addition to our routine, but it’s about finding joy in the little things at the moment. Tanning drops have personally been my saviour for a long while now. I was a self-confessed tan-o-phobe (I’m quite fair-skinned, an SPF worshipper and have many a fake-bake horror story to tell), but since discovering the joy of these bottles of sunshine, I haven’t looked
Thursday Thoughts
May 14, 2020 at 11:03AM Hi friends. I hope your week is going well! I feel like I have quite a few random tangents to share, so I popped them all into this post! – It’s bananas to believe we’re hitting 9 weeks tomorrow, which also means 9 weeks of no childcare. I absolutely love spending this time with the girls, but I also enjoy working in blocks of time that are greater than 30 minutes, ya know? To be totally honest, I’m not even sure how comfortable I feel about going back to school in the fall at this point. I’d love to hear fellow parents’ thoughts about this whole thing. What’s your strategy for the rest of the summer since camps are closed (and I don’t even think I’d be ready to send them if they were open)? I’m feeling like as things open up over the next month, I may explore having a nanny come over a few mornings each week (our beloved babysitter moved during all of this) just so I can be more efficient with work and not feel like I’m scrambling. I’m hoping that all of this will feel a little easier once we finish up distance learning in the next couple of weeks. – I’m venturing out into the world today for the first time by myself…. to head to the dentist! I’m strangely excited about it. Dentist was #1 on my list, then eyebrows, then hair. What’s on your list of places
I Have Tried Countless Dry Shampoos and This Is the Only One That Actually Works
May 14, 2020 at 10:00AM My hair is seriously fine and poker-straight. The only hint of texture that my hair naturally possesses is as a result of years of bleach damage to the ends. Because of this, I am forever looking for ways to add some more life and texture to my limp strands. In fact, I’m desperate for some volume. You see, I follow all of the expert advice and only wash my hair every other day, however its limp, greasy nature basically removes any chance of me being able to wear it down on my no-wash days. Somewhere around 20-24 hours after my hair has been washed, the roots start getting flatter, thinner areas of hair begin to part in peculiar ways and my long strands start feeling weighty. It makes sense, therefore, that I regularly find myself reaching for dry shampoo in a bid to tide my hair over until its next wash. And I have tried a whole bunch. In fact, I think I’ve tried most of the dry shampoos on offer, and I hate to say it but I have some real issues with the majority of them. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate them as products. I just have a problem with the fact they are called dry shampoos. I love the feeling of clean hair and loathe any sort of styling product that weighs my already lifeless lengths down. And, when I find myself reaching for dry shampoo on those dreaded no-wash days, I’m doing so because
Digital Organizer: System for Storing + Organizing Digital Products
May 14, 2020 at 10:00AM Looking to set up a better digital organizer design? Here is a fool-proof system for storing and organizing digital products and organizing digital photos so you can stay on top of your products and not lose a thing. I am a firm believer that your space affects your mental health. That junk drawer or linen closet that is “disheveled” (to put it lightly)… it’s probably causing you some level of anxiety without you even knowing it. When I have a clean home, my mind is so much more at ease. The same goes for your tech products! We all have so much crap stored on our digital products… it’s bogging down your physical systems and your mind! So over the years I’ve developed a system for storing and organizing digital products that helps keep me sane. It also makes it so much easier to find things so you aren’t searching for that one picture or document. Now if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by this digital organizer, I get it! My recommendation? Start with one product at a time. Maybe it’s your phone or your tablet. Maybe it’s just backing things up to your hard drive. You can always build from […] The post Digital Organizer: System for Storing + Organizing Digital Products appeared first on The Healthy Maven. Clearing Up 7 Misconceptions about Psychics
May 14, 2020 at 08:35AM Things don’t always go smoothly for psychics. Movies and television, a misinformed mass media, fakes and scammers who pretend to have psychic gifts, and rampant general skepticism have swirled together to form seven common misconceptions that unite and conspire to give genuine psychics a bad name. You want to have confidence that you’ll find a […] The post Clearing Up 7 Misconceptions about Psychics appeared first on SafeandHealthylife.
