May 14, 2020 at 06:20AM The first sign of sunshine and I turn into a hippy. Are you the same? If floaty, printed, slightly retro midi and maxi dresses become your go-to, then we likely will share the same taste in summer shopping destinations. So listen up, because I’m about to share a bit of useful intel with you (don’t worry—you can thank me later). You may be thinking it’s too soon to invest in summer dresses, but it’s all about snapping up those It dresses before they inevitably sell out. So to go with my tan suede sandals, oversize yellow-tinted sunglasses and museum of jangly earrings, I always head to Free People when the weather starts to turn. It’s my secret source for bohemian dresses that no one else tends to frequent. This Philadelphia-based brand isn’t as known in the UK as it is in the States, but I predict that once you see its latest collection, you’ll want to channel your inner Stevie Nicks. Editorial Director Hannah Almassi belts the Oasis Midi Dress and wears with boots to make it work for winter, too. What’s more, I often find that FP’s summer dresses are of a better quality than you’d find elsewhere on the high street. Rather than more cost-effective obvious prints, for example, you’ll find embroidery on linen instead. In the place of cheaper elasticated waistbands, you’ll discover wrap silhouettes or cutaway details. It’s partly down to the in-house designs but also a credit to the buying team, which cherry-picks a mixture of pieces from other niche brands

21 Tops That Will Make Your Leggings Feel Fancy
May 14, 2020 at 06:12AM Is it just us, or are there a lot of top shots on our Instagram feeds right now? Possibly because the world is making more conference calls than ever, or it could be because the vast majority of us have been wearing leggings on our bottom half for the last week, but tops—pretty ones at that—are all the rage right now. We’ve noticed so many of our favourite influencers have been uploading cropped snaps of their excellent top choices to Instagram this week. This, essentially, has re-ignited our love for the classic outfit combination: jeans/joggers/leggings (delete as appropriate) and a nice top. Because sometimes it’s the littlest changes that can have the biggest impact on our mood, we decided to follow suit. And, we can confirm that wearing a fancier top than, say, a basic t-shirt, makes us feel more pulled together and polished—which is no small feat right now. If donning a statement top makes you feel that bit brighter, then go for it. Dig out your puffiest sleeves and slinkiest fabrics, and prepare to feel more stylish in a flash. Of course, should you need some inspiration, below, we’ve chronicled the best top-focused looks we’ve seen, as well as an edit of 21 gorgeous feel-good tops to shop now. Enjoy! Babba’s bright-yellow top is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Sabina opts for spring’s prettiest colour trend: lilac. We’d be as happy as Tamu if we were wearing this Miu Miu top. Who said feel-good
This “Boring” Dress Is Now Summer’s #1 Buy
May 14, 2020 at 06:07AM Fashion decrees that everyone should own at least one little black dress, but there’s an equally viable case to be made for the little white dress. Not that it has to be little (especially if you’re wearing your LWD in the city rather than at the beach), but as long as it’s crisp and bright white, then you’re good to go. There’s just something unapologetically spring-like and optimistic about this shade, be it lacy and whimsical or linen and minimalist. What’s more, the basic warm-weather staple was a pretty big deal on the spring/summer 2020 runways. “Much like the majority of the new-season collections, here we have another summer staple, but one that designers have reimagined with in line with the ‘keep it simple but never boring’ mantra,” says Who What Wear UK’s editor, Emma Spedding. “Valentino opened its show with several white cotton dresses, Loewe showed beautifully draped midis and Jonathan Simkhai’s white maxi dress is pure perfection.” In short, they’re all the rage right now. Below, you’ll find an edit of the best white dresses to invest in now that’ll see you through the summer. Before that, however, feast your eyes on the ways influencers wear their little white dresses for all the white dress outfit inspiration you need. Puffy sleeves are always a good idea—particularly on white dresses. Wear mini hemlines with sheer tights now. Don’t be afraid to contrast your white dress with black accessories. Metallic accessories will take your little
7 Chic Scandi Influencers on the Outfits They’re Wearing at Home
May 14, 2020 at 06:06AM You only have to look as far as Copenhagen Fashion Week to realise Scandinavian women are icons when it comes to personal style. Known for their bold use of colour, daring outfit combinations and overall statement-making looks, there’s a unique sensibility that comes with the Scandinavian aesthetic. Given their reputation as some of the coolest women in the fashion industry, we thought now would be a good time to see what Scandi influencers are choosing to wear in the comfort of their own homes, away from the street style photographers and hoards of fellow fashionistas. We spoke to Jeanette Madsen, Nina Sandbech, Anna Sarlvit and more, and each of their answers was unique, as you might expect. Unsurprisingly, bold colour is still on the agenda, as several women admitted to using bright shades to boost their moods. Aside from that, comfy loungewear seems to be a high priority with pastel activewear and tracksuit sets also being popular items. If you’re looking for a little at-home inspiration, keep scrolling to see what Scandi women are wearing at home. “I’ve actually been wearing what I would normally wear during the week when I’m only going to work, except for the accessories. I love a casual look mixed with something feminine. So a tracksuit paired with a trench coat and a cute little bag is a favourite outfit.” “Most days I dress up even though I’m just at home. I love wearing colours. It brightens up my day and makes it so much more fun!” “During quarantine,
Why I Think Nostalgia Is the Future of the Fashion Industry
May 14, 2020 at 06:00AM When I was growing up, we had what we called the memories box, a huge travel case packed full of childhood paraphernalia and family mementos dating back to long before I was born. I used to love spending hours rummaging in its depths, inexorably drawn toward the miniaturised items of clothing, each one telling its own story: a tiny bee-striped jumper knitted by my granny, a lace-trimmed christening gown, my first pair of shoes. These keepsakes allowed me to time-travel, revisiting those rose-tinted moments that are usually contained, frozen, in old photo albums. Twiggy, 1968 Why do we store and treasure objects that are tethered to the past? It’s a question that I’ve been asking myself as I settle into a new normal, which has, by default, turned my usual future-focused self into someone who can only dwell in the current moment or reflect on the past. I am not alone in this adjustment, and as an industry whose very foundations are shaped by the promise of an ever-unfurling future, fashion has undoubtedly floundered. With a question mark hanging over everything from when to reopen warehouses to Fashion Week, it perhaps comes as no surprise that fashion has taken a moment to reflect and delve into its own memory box, looking for inspiration on how to adapt to a new era. “The feeling of a lack of control is one of life’s biggest stressors. Because so much is out of our control at the moment and

The Minimalist Staples I’m Buying From COS This Summer
May 14, 2020 at 06:00AM Simple, timeless and irresistibly minimalist, there is something so timely about COS’s spring/summer collection. Of course, the brand has been championing the stripped-back aesthetic long before it was on-trend, but over the last few months, we can’t deny that over many other high-street brands, it has an edge when it comes to achieving that high-end finish with a high-street budget. Away from the melee of clashing prints and look-at-me logos, COS is a breath of fresh air as we edge ever-closer to the summer months. With the ’90s minimalist look having a moment in the sartorial spotlight, there’s no better place to go for tank tops and strappy dresses, the likes of which could happily be transported back to Gwyneth Paltrow circa 1995. So what’s at the top of our COS wish lists? We can’t deny that the brand’s eclectic selection of sleeveless tops has piqued our interest, with everything from leather to knitted fabric making an appearance. We’re also keen to get our hands on one of those utility jumpsuits for easy WFH style—just add Birkenstocks. We also recommend heading on down to the chic loungewear pieces at the bottom which are sure to appeal to your inner hoodie-wearer. Trust us on this one. Happy scrolling!
