June 16, 2020 at 11:05PM Meet Josef Adamu, a creative director who splits his time between Toronto and New York, and who started his own creative agency, Sunday School, from his Toronto basement back in 2017 which has since grown to a team of four. Here, he shares, in his own words, his company’s mission and what fuels him creatively. On growing up: “My parents are Nigerian and they came to Canada in ’89. I was born a few years later in Toronto, and my family bounced around a lot between Toronto and Brampton. I even lived in Calgary, Alberta for one year as well. I’ve always been in a Black space for the most part, meaning I’ve always lived in areas where there was a highly concentrated Black or South Asian community. That was beautiful to me. And I always took note of things. Like, when I went to friends’ houses, I was very inquisitive about where their parents were from. I’ve always been that friend that was questioning everything and I’ve always documented it. When I went to the hair salon, I took note of things. When I went to play basketball with friends, I took note of things. I’ve always made mental notes. And, honestly, those experiences play into what I’m doing now.” On what he does professionally: “Creative director, entrepreneur, visual storyteller. I run a creative agency that brings different creatives together to work on campaign projects, and partner with other companies on projects, that bring

My New Favorite Outfit Combo Is a Knit Dress + Slides, and It’s Easier Than Sweats
June 16, 2020 at 10:20PM “What’s easier than throwing on sweats and a tank top?” you probably think to yourself every morning when you’re getting dressed to work from home. But personally, I think slipping into a knit dress, whether ribbed, marled, or with a touch of metallic threading, is even more effortless – and easily more thrilling. When I add on a few layered necklaces and a headband, I’m ready as ever for a Zoom call, and I also feel good. The idea of a knit tank dress, or maybe one with sleeves if the AC is on, reminds me of a vacation – these can practically double as swim cover-ups, after all. But how will I complete the look if I need to run a quick errand or take a social-distancing walk around the block? Slides! Staying on brand with the whole “effortless” vibe, I like to keep it chic with a flat and let my toes breathe. What’s more, I’ve been seeing this specific outfit pop up everywhere, each time translated perfectly for the wearer and their personality. Some stick to neutrals, some opt for bursts of color (think: a tangerine dress and blue slides or an embellished shoe with a bold colored jacket that draws attention to your footwear). Scroll through for a full roundup of inspiration here, and shop my favorite pieces that will assist you in mastering this combination for the summer. The Truth About Oil Pulling: Why It’s Easier Than You Think + How To Do It Right
June 16, 2020 at 08:00PM According to registered Ayurvedic Practitioner and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist, Julie Bernier if you’ve caught on to the health practice of oil-pulling recently, it’s possible you’re doing it wrong. The good news is that Julie’s perspective on the daily ayurvedic practice makes the healthy habit easier — and faster! — than some of us may have assumed. It’s been thousands of years since the ancient ayurvedic sages first recommended oil pulling as part of a health-promoting daily routine. When the mainstream wellness scene picked up on it a few years ago, it blew up, and with that came a lot of misinformation. Oil pulling is not what most people think it is; here’s everything you need to know about the real oil pulling. I did a little google search and this is the general oil pulling consensus: put a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 20 minutes. This will supposedly whiten teeth, extract toxins, and cure pretty much any disease you can think of. There are reports of oil pulling causing headaches, TMJ, and even vomiting. Oh dear! In ayurveda, medicine is only that which does not cause another problem in the body. Which means that this kind of oil pulling is not correct. And it’s not at all what’s recommended in the original ayurvedic texts. Ayurveda, the holistic system of healing from ancient India, described with immense precision the do’s and dont’s of all things health and wellbeing. Ayurveda is

Meet Stephanie Benedetto, the Woman on a Mission to Save Fabric From Landfills
June 16, 2020 at 08:26PM Today, Cartier has unveiled the seven winners of the Cartier Women’s Initiative 2020. Chosen from 1,200 applicants from 159 countries, the seven winners will receive a $100,000 investment from Cartier into their business – with sectors ranging from healthcare to education, manufacturing and fashion innovation. To date, the Cartier Women’s Initiative (CWI) has “supported more than 240 social impact-driven businesses led and owned by women entrepreneurs, hailing from 56 countries, creating more than 7,000 jobs,” according to a release. It has also granted over $3 million in funding “making it one of the largest and most generous female-focused entrepreneurial competitions in the world.” One of this year’s laureates is Stephanie Benedetto, a New York-based former lawyer who now runs Queen of Raw, an online marketplace for businesses to buy and sell deadstock fabrics and textiles. Through this marketplace, Benedetto is providing businesses with a sustainable alternative to destroying fabrics. We caught up with Benedetto to find out more about her career transition and the business – and why she hopes to one day work herself out of a job. Tell us a little about how you made the jump from a legal career to starting Queen of Raw. My family has been in the fabric business for over 100 years, but over that time frame, many financial and environmental inefficiencies have emerged. Today, the fashion industry is the second greatest polluter of freshwater in the world and a lot of the raw material produced by
