June 18, 2020 at 11:55PM There must be something in the water over at Outer Banks. A few days after Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes, who play love interests Sarah and John B on the show, confirmed they’re dating, another OBX co-star has announced her new relationship. Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara on Outer Banks, revealed on TikTok that she’s dating UNC-Charlotte basketball player Mariah Linney, 21. Ahead, everything we know about Bailey’s new girlfriend, including how TikTok introduced the couple. The couple is Instagram and TikTok official. In late May, Bailey came out as pansexual on her TikTok, writing, “Nobody knows what pansexual means. Girls, boys, trans boys, trans girls, nonbinary babies. It’s what’s on the inside, boo.” She previously alluded to her sexuality in a September 2019 Instagram post captioned, “Easily distracted by all genders?️?.” This content is imported from TikTok. Texture Talk: Your Pro-Approved Guide to the World of Wigs
June 18, 2020 at 10:31PM Welcome to Texture Talk, a weekly column that celebrates and deep dives into the dynamic world of curly hair, from crowns of curls that are free flowing to strands that are tucked away in a protective style. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been chatting a lot about wigs in this series, knowing very well that there are likely many readers out there who have never dabbled much — or at all — in the wig game. So, we thought it would be helpful to serve up our very own Wig 101, a beginner’s guide to the most popular wigs styles out there and the biggest tips and tricks everyone should know. To help us out, we tapped wig expert Jordan Rodney, a resident hairstylist at Toronto’s JouJou Hair Salon. Jordan, who is an avid wig wearer himself, is the go-to stylist of Cityline’s very own Tracy Moore. The biggest reason women come and sit in his chair? “Most of my clients that wear wigs have a busy lifestyle, and they want to eliminate that time in the morning to have to style their natural hair. They don’t want to worry about having to do a wash-n-go or twist outs,” he shares. Here, Jordan breaks down the different wig styles and what to know when it comes to proper wig maintenance. Social Distancing Has Helped Me Pare Down My Summer Wardrobe to Just 10 Pieces
June 18, 2020 at 10:10PM You might be greeting this post with complete and utter disbelief, in which case, I concur: it really does sound like bullsh*t. In fact, when I started counting the articles of clothing I’ve honestly been sticking to – “hmm, what have you been washing in the laundry lately, Sarah?” – I expected to come up with, like, 30 different essentials my fashion-loving heart – even during social distancing – could not live without. Because I am the type of person who couldn’t stand the sweatpants fatigue after just a few weeks in isolation. If I wanted to, I really could choose just one house dress and abandon all the others. (Seriously, it’s the loose, billowy white one with the pouf sleeves.) When I decided to start rekindling my relationship with my closet, I wasn’t dressing for my housemates – my future husband and my cat (OK, maybe a little for my cat) – I was really dressing for me. My daily “event” became my social-distancing walk, and even though my outfit for the occasion was comfortable, it was colorful. It spoke to my personality. Now that I’m forcing myself to study the pieces I’ve been reaching for, I realize that they all fall into certain buckets – 10! – that I’ve outlined below. If I wanted to, I really could choose just one house dress and abandon all the others. (Seriously, it’s the loose, billowy white one with the pouf sleeves.) I couldn’t narrow down
The Storied History of Juneteenth
June 18, 2020 at 10:18PM Juneteenth, a holiday that honors the end of slavery in the United States, has been celebrated by Black Americans for the last 155 years. But this year, nationwide protests following the recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and other Black people at the hands of police have sparked an unprecedented interest in the day from non-Black people. READ NEXT How to Actually Be a Better Ally We Need a Black Lives Matter Activist in Congress Over 90 Black Creators and Tastemakers to Follow The American education system has largely white-washed history, crediting President Abraham Lincoln with freeing slaves by signing the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862 and ending the Civil War. But it would actually be two more years before slavery was officially ended, when Gen. Gordon Granger and a group of Union troops arrived in Galveston, TX to tell slaves of their freedom. It’s one of many facts about the experience of the Black community that many white Americans are learning about and acknowledging, perhaps for the first time. “Juneteenth is now on people’s radar even though we have been using it to validate our existence which has been wiped away from us for generations,” James Felton Keith, who is running for a seat in New York’s 13th Congressional District, told ABC News. “Juneteenth truly represents freedom.” Ahead, what to know about Juneteenth’s history, why people are fighting to make it a national holiday, and how you can help honor the day. What is Juneteenth? Juneteenth, a combination of
The Stylists Shaping Music Now
June 18, 2020 at 09:55PM When Courtney Love traded her “kinderwhore” trappings for an Atelier Versace gown that clung to her like Saran Wrap at the 1997 Oscars, some fans felt betrayed—as though their grunge goddess had sold out. But these days, when a young artist like Billie Eilish shows up on a red carpet in Gucci or Chanel, it doesn’t feel like a corporate co-option of a subculture. Instead, musicians like Eilish, FKA twigs, and Solange Knowles have become innovators—molding designer fashion in their images, rather than bending to some outside idea of it. Of course, music has always influenced fashion, but now the relationship between the two feels less like an extreme makeover and more like a collaboration, with pop stars consistently wearing the most daring, directional looks from the runway. Think of Cardi B in floral Richard Quinn, complete with full face mask, or Eilish in an oversize Burberry check ensemble and a bonnet cap at this year’s Brit Awards. Cardi B, styled by Kollin Carter. BERETTA/SIMS/SHUTTERSTOCK ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW The artists themselves have plenty of input into their style, but the unseen architects behind these internet-breaking fashion moments are well-connected stylists like Kollin Carter (Cardi B), Kyle Luu (Knowles), Samantha Burkhart (Eilish and Rosalía, among others), Kat Typaldos (Maggie Rogers), and Matthew Josephs (FKA twigs). Their jobs can be launchpads to the design world, too: Jahleel Weaver, Rihanna’s stylist, is now deputy creative director of her brand, Fenty. Maggie Rogers, styled by Kat Typaldos

Farfetch Launches New Fashion Footprint Calculator
June 18, 2020 at 08:29PM E-commerce giant Farfetch has announced the launch of a new online sustainability calculator designed to help consumers gain a better understanding of the environmental impact of their purchases. The fashion footprint tool outlines the impact of specific materials used within a piece, as well as the savings they would make if they opted to buy the item second-hand. To coincide with the launch of the calculator, Farfetch also released a report in partnership with the London Waste and Recycling Board which focused on the pre-owned market (in the US, UK and China). The report found that, on average, a pre-owned purchase can save 1 kilogram of waste, 3,040 litres of water and 22 kilograms of CO2 compared to a new piece. Thomas Berry, the director of sustainable business at Farfetch told WWD, “A lot of consumers have said they want to buy into brands doing the right things, and that they would want to stop buying from brands that are not doing the basics in terms of sustainability.” He added that the tool is designed to help customers choose from “a range of great fashion that we have on Farfetch, a large amount of which just happens to be conscious.” The addition of the calculator is the latest in a string of sustainability-focused initiatives by the e-commerce platform. Earlier this year, it held a pop-up for archival, pre-owned Chanel pieces and introduced a donation service in partnership with Thrift+ in the UK whereby users can sell
