Dr. Will Cole Reveals Where Most Health Problems Really Start

June 23, 2020 at 11:05AM As a functional medicine practitioner, Dr. Will Cole sees countless patients around the world who struggle for years with ongoing symptoms. They go years without getting real answers about their health. According to Cole, the problem is that most people focus on symptom relief rather than looking at the underlying cause of why symptoms exist in the first place. Here he explains that more often than not, health problems start at the most foundational level of our bodies – our cells… Your body is made up of close to 37.2 trillion cells and produces 25 million new cells every single second! This doesn’t even include the bacteria located in your microbiome which outnumbers your body’s own cells 10 to 1. There are 200 different types of cells which come together to form various parts of your body including your skin, muscles, and bones and have the responsibility of taking in nutrients, converting them to energy, keeping all systems of your body functioning properly, and skin looking youthful. Once you know all of these facts, it is only fitting why your cells are often referred to as “the building blocks of life.” And because you are entirely made up of cells, it makes sense then that optimal health starts at the cellular level. Therefore, we want to keep our cells as healthy as possible and avoid cellular damage. Our cells can be damaged through the production of free radicals from oxidative stress. There are many things

Could Your Posture Could Be Causing You A Ton of Pain?

June 23, 2020 at 11:00AM Are you leaning over your phone while reading this? Hunched over with your head jutted out? You may not realize that every time you move your head forward (aka out of alignment) by just one inch, it adds an extra 10 pounds of weight to your neck! According to functional medicine expert, Dr. Josh Axe, chronic bad posture isn’t only a bad look, it can create unnecessary pain, affecting our mood, our energy and our body’s ability to stay at equilibrium. Poor posture has been shown to affect depression, memory, stress response, self-esteem, body image, and even brain function and behavior. Sit up straight and get ready to learn… Thanks in no small part to a reliance on and addiction to technology, a sedentary lifestyle has become the norm. As a result, good posture has never been more important, but unfortunately, our obsession with our smartphones has made many of us develop forward head posture. Why is this bad? Every time we lean forward 60 degrees, the stress on our necks is increased by approximately 60 pounds. In fact, every time you move your head forward an inch, an extra 10 pounds of weight is added to your neck. As a result, forward head posture leads to chronic pain, numbness in the arms and hands, improper breathing, and pinched nerves. That’s not all. It turns out, forward head posture doesn’t just affect us physically — it affects our mood as well. Thanks in no small part

Jalapeno Turkey Burgers

June 23, 2020 at 10:00AM Delicious and juicy homemade jalapeno turkey burgers made with lean ground turkey, spices and pepper jack cheddar cheese for a flavor-packed dinner or BBQ meal. Some of you might find this interesting (or not!) but I didn’t eat red meat from the ages of 8 to 21. I downright refused and though I’m sure it perplexed my family, they were surprisingly accommodating. When burger night came around and everyone was chowing down on their beef hamburgers I was enjoying my equally as delicious turkey burger. Though I started to eat red meat again at 21, I still to this today prefer a turkey burger over a hamburger. We also don’t cook red meat at home (for environmental reasons) so these jalapeno turkey burgers have become our jam! I’ve been tweaking this recipe for a while and I’m thrilled that I finally mastered it. Expect to see it on upcoming Sunday meal plans! What You Need Lean ground turkey: I prefer 93-94% lean ground turkey breast 1 large egg Pepper jack cheddar cheese: Buy a block so you can shred for inside the burgers + slice for on top! Breadcrumbs: Feel free to replace with gluten-free breadcrumbs or use ground oat […] The post Jalapeno Turkey Burgers appeared first on The Healthy Maven. 13 Beauty Editors on the Affordable Products That Rival Expensive Buys

June 23, 2020 at 06:30AM Everyone deserves a beauty editor in their group chat for on-the-go questions on everything from the best concealer to where to go for a manicure that’ll last beyond the weekend. With the enviable job of testing and reviewing a seemingly endless supply of beauty products, they’re the best bet for product recommendations.  The downside? When you’ve got every beauty brand in the world at your disposal, that often equates to using products that have a whole lot of numbers succeeding the pound sign. So we decided to have a chat with the beauty editors we have on speed dial to find out what affordable beauty products they use that rival the expensive ones out there.  Keep scrolling to find the editor-approved affordable buys that you need to add to your routine.  “I have a real body lotion aversion. I can’t stand the cold, so hopping round a freezing bathroom post-shower waiting for a hefty cream to sink in isn’t my idea of a relaxing morning ritual. That’s why it wouldn’t be hyperbolic to say Sanctuary Spa’s Wet Skin Miracle is a complete game changer. You apply in the shower straight after turning the water off (so you have the safety of the warm steam for comfort) onto wet skin, before gently towelling off and immediately getting dressed. You’d think you’d rub it straight off but miraculously, it sinks in faster than it takes for the goosebumps to start to appear. And it’s less than a tenner. The dream!” “As someone

I Own Over 50 Perfumes, and These Are By Far the Most Uplifting

June 23, 2020 at 06:30AM It might seem a bit silly, but while I have spent the last three weeks makeup-less, with my greasy hair thrown up in a bun, scoffing snacks in my pyjamas as I work from the sofa, I have also been spritzing my most luxurious perfumes. You see, while some people require a blow-dry or a swipe of red lipstick to feel pulled-together and ready to take on the day, all I need is a spritz of perfume. Luckily, I am very well experienced when it comes to finding the most uplifting perfumes around. In fact, since discovering the power that perfume has over my mood, I’ve made it my beauty mission to collect the happiest scents around. As a result of said search, I am now the not-so-proud owner of an obscene amount of perfumes. Well over 50, if I had to put a number on it. Despite the fact that the size of my perfume collection is without a doubt unnecessary and extravagant, it turns out that my theory about perfume lifting my spirits actually does make sense. Aromatherapy Associates Master Blender Luke Taylor says, “In more recent times, numerous studies have revealed that various psychological effects can be attributed to fragrance inhalation. Increased brain activity, changes in bloody pressure, heart rate and pupil dilation are all immediate effects of olfactory stimulation.”  But what exactly makes a great uplifting perfume? The truth is, what’s uplifting for one, might not necessarily be for another. “Any scent you enjoy will evoke happiness, either

6 Ways to Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable

June 23, 2020 at 06:30AM No matter what your stance on the climate crisis may be, one thing is for sure: Us humans know how to consume. In fact, consume is just about all we do, and with consumption comes a whole bunch of waste. Sadly, whether we’re throwing out non-recyclable plastics or recyclable glass, the very act of our consumption is set to have an effect on the state of the planet. And sadly, as time has gone on, our consumption has worsened. According to data, in 1950, global carbon dioxide emissions were around 5 billion tonnes. By 2017, they were around 36 billion tonnes, with further increases reported over 2018 and 2019. And it’s not just carbon emissions from manufacturing and transportation that we should be thinking about. Studies show that, if plastic consumption doesn’t change by 2050, the seas will contain more plastic than fish. So what’s all of this got to do with our beauty routines? Well, it turns out an awful lot. According to Zero Waste Week, more than 120 billion units of packaging are produced globally every year by the cosmetics industry. And, as consumption habits have no doubt changed over recent months, we think now is the perfect time to sit down and reassess how sustainable our beauty routines really are. The truth is, it’s now easier than ever to shop eco-friendly beauty. From opting for plastic-free products to adopting huge sustainability initiatives, beauty brands around the world are starting to think more consciously about

20 Summer Buys I Have Added to My Wishlist

June 23, 2020 at 06:15AM As an editor at Who What Wear, I typically spend a lot of time looking at new-in products, and so every month, I update this story with the pieces that have caught my eye or that I have saved to my wish list. This summer instead of holidays or weddings, we’re dressing for drinks or picnics in the great outdoors, so this month my wishlist is filled with walk-for-miles sandals, picnic gingham prints and linen shorts.  As several warehouses and stores have shuttered, the fashion industry faces huge challenges and strains that pose an inevitable threat to businesses, reflected in the number of flash sales launching every single day. Many of us won’t be shopping in the same way this year, but even a like on Instagram or a message of support can provide a boost for these brands. I certainly don’t want anyone to feel like they have to buy more right now in a time of such heightened worry, but at the same time, after working in the fashion industry for nine years, I also want to support the brands that I really love and treasure. So whether you’re looking to buy, browse or discover something new, keep scrolling for the summer buys I love from fashion brands I always champion and think are worth investing in, from the high street to designer labels. Keep scrolling to see the 20 summer items I love.  I love that this has a swimming costume vibe to

Holly Willoughby’s Stylist Just Gave Me the Best Fashion Advice

June 23, 2020 at 06:00AM As a fashion editor, I’ve prided myself on being sure of my style. But as the weeks have gone on and I’m still work from home, I’m not embarrassed to admit I’m a bit confused about my wardrobe right now. OK, so we’re not in full lockdown any more, and being outside is a much more realistic pass time, but I’m still not wearing the same clothes as I used to. Even if you’re already back at your usual desk in the office, restaurants, pubs and bars are still a no-go, so there’s little opportunity to dress up. While I occasionally wear dresses, I’m still finding that I’m turning to the more comfortable items. But how do you make that look cool? Speak to a stylist whose wardrobe you love.  Angie Smith might not be a name you know immediately. But she’s the reason why Holly Willoughby looks so great on This Morning and why we’re often left coveting the TV presenter’s outfit. If you didn’t already gather—Smith is a stylist and an incredible one at that. But it’s not just her clients who look good, she also has an enviable wardrobe herself. Since lockdown started, I’ve spent even more time than usual on Instagram (no, I will not be looking at how much time I spend on the app). And a lot of that time on Instagram is spent looking on accounts of cool women who have managed to adapt their style effortlessly and Smith is one

From Rixo to Ganni, I Just Found 23 Feel-Good Dresses for Under £300

June 23, 2020 at 06:00AM Here at Who What Wear, we believe that you can achieve great style at every budget. Everyone will have different criteria and constraints when it comes to shopping, and naturally, these will also vary over your lifetime. I’ve always been very picky about what I spend my money on, and despite working in the fashion industry, I’m reluctant to spend over the odds on something unless I’m really sure I’m going to get a good return on investment. However, in both my colleagues’ and my experience, dresses seem to be the item we’re the most willing to spend a little bit more on. They’re our go-tos for everything from parties to chilling in the park, and some of our most-worn and -treasured items fall into the dress category. Last year, I nabbed Ganni’s smocked midi dress in the sale and have worn it constantly. I feel great in it, and it’s so easy to style. It’s fair to say it was worth the investment. Luckily, there are so many new brands cropping up that offer the quality and kudos of designer brands, but without the four-figure price tags. Labels such as Rixo, Ganni and Stine Goya have really nailed this mid-price-range category, and we’ve been besotted ever since. So if you fancy a feel-good frock to wear whilst chilling in your garden or as an option for a 2021 wedding, we’ve got plenty of options for you below. Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird Honored Black Designers in Coordinating Outfits For the ESPYs

June 23, 2020 at 03:54AM While there was no official red carpet for the 2020 ESPYs, that doesn’t mean attendees refrained from dressing to the nines from the comfort of their own homes. Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird, who each pulled off five amazing outfits, hosted Sunday night’s remote show along with Russell Wilson. They acknowledged the Black athletes who’ve fought for equality for years, as well as the work the industry still has to do. But in addition to using their voices to speak up about racial inequality in sports, they wore an assortment of stylish pieces by Black designers to echo their support for the Black community. From casual T-shirts to classy evening wear, the couple wore various complementary looks that were not only super chic, but also highlighted Black designers – plus a whole lot of Nike sneakers. Styled by Karla Welch, among other celebrity stylists, Megan and Sue mixed and matched pieces from Christopher John Rogers, Pyer Moss, Virgil Abloh, and more. Thankfully, Megan gave us a full breakdown of each outfit on her Instagram Stories, because I need to know where to get all of these incredible sneakers. Keep scrolling for more details on their red-carpet-worthy outfits.
