Since Clarks first introduced the design into the fashion vernacular 70 years ago, the boot’s minimalist design and universal functionality have made it a closet staple for generation after generation. And today, the style’s enduring legacy and classic good looks are inspiring a fresh group of tastemakers. From retro references to contemporary twists, the unique perspectives of Andrea Zendejas, Kia Goosby, and Kathy Lee reveal why this classic boot is a forever style staple. LAUREN LONCAR Accessories editor Andrea Zendejas attributes her of-the-moment approach to fashion to having a strong style muse growing up. “All my life, my mom has been an inspiration for my sisters and me. She has a great sense of style that’s so timeless, and I’ve really gravitated towards that,” says Zendejas. These Are the 25 Prettiest Beauty Products for a Seriously Chic Dressing Table
June 18, 2020 at 06:35PM I’m not sure about you, but I get a huge amount of joy from using certain beauty products. Whether it be a super nourishing, luxurious body cream or a red lipstick that perfectly cushions the lips, some products just have that special touch. It makes sense, therefore, that in times like these, I’m turning to such products more so than ever in a bid to lift my spirits. Similarly, with spending more time at home than I’m used to, I have also been finding ways to inject some joy into my surroundings. After several homeware orders, I’m actually starting to run out of space. So last week, as I perused my beauty shelves, I had a eureka moment. Instead of keeping all of my most beautiful, mood-lifting beauty products behind closed doors to experience one once or twice a week, why not keep them out on display for all of the world to see (well, just me for now)? With the rise of social media platforms like Instagram, aesthetics and packaging have a bigger role to play than ever when it comes to the success of a beauty product, and I’m not complaining. As every new launch gets prettier and prettier, it seems such a waste to hide them, no? So if you like the idea of your beauty products doubling up as chic ornaments for your dressing table, keep scrolling. Laverne Cox Is Highlighting Trans Representation in a New Netflix Documentary
June 18, 2020 at 06:03PM With the new documentary Disclosure, executive producer Laverne Cox, director Sam Feder, and producer Amy Scholder offer a much-needed, in-depth look at the history of transgender representation on-screen. The doc sifts through trans portrayals in film and television, going as far back as 1914’s A Florida Enchantment to as recent as 1999’s Boys Don’t Cry and 2018’s Pose. Featuring commentary from Cox and trans artists and creators including Lilly Wachowski, Yance Ford, Mj Rodriguez, Jamie Clayton, and Chaz Bono, the work outlines how far trans stories have come, their evolution throughout the years, and how they reflect society’s concepts of gender and sexuality. After first premiering at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, Disclosure will finally be available to stream on Netflix this Friday, June 19. And it couldn’t come at a more pressing time. The title will hit the streaming platform just days after the Trump administration scrapped legislation that would protect transgender people from health care discrimination, in the wake of author J.K. Rowling’s transphobic tweets and essay, and as Black trans lives continue to be taken—and often forgotten, misgendered, and deadnamed—by racist violence and police brutality. “That’s the paradox of our representation, is the more we are seen, the more we are violated,” advocate and writer Tiq Milan says in the Disclosure trailer.
