Pose Star Ryan Jamaal Swain Asks, ‘Why Is It Such A Laborious Task For Black Lives to Matter?’

June 17, 2020 at 09:40PM It’s June, we’re still in the midst of a pandemic, and while we’d normally be celebrating the kickoff to summer and Pride month, we’re in the midst of international crisis, with unrest finally coming to a head. We are urging the world to face the person in the mirror and change their harmful, dangerous ways, to fight to end the horrific treatment of black and brown people in America by police. George Floyd, whose life was tragically cut short by police officers, has finally been laid to rest in his hometown of Houston. Protesters all over America are still in the streets, calling for justice in his case, as well as for Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Iyanna Dior and many, many others. Everything feels broken, and people are tired. While it’s still Pride month, members of the community are using their platforms to speak out about the injustices that plague BIPOC people and the LGBTQIA+ community. To kick off the celebrations at Hearst, Hearst Black Culture hosted a conversation with Ryan Jamaal Swain, an actor in the hit TV show Pose. Swain is no stranger to using his platform. A self-proclaimed lover of people, he sat down with Tommy J. Atkins of Hearst Media to discuss his views on black liberation, effective ally ship, and intersectionality. Watch below. Outer Banks Season 2: Everything We Know

June 17, 2020 at 09:39PM Spoilers for season 1 of Outer Banks below. Watching the soapy teen drama of Netflix’s Outer Banks left me longing for a tan, a fictional summer romance, and a sun-drenched vacation. But more than anything, it left me craving a second season that will make sense of the show’s wild final episode. The series follows the socioeconomic warfare between the elite Kooks and working class Pogues in the North Carolina region known as Outer Banks. “It’s the sort of place where you either have two jobs or two houses,” the show’s trailer explains. “Two tribes, one island.” At the show’s center is a treasure hunt for $400 million aboard a sunken ship. Along the way, there are love triangles and murder motives to satisfy all your horny and vindictive urges. If you, too, found yourself invested in a show that somehow satisfies your One Tree Hill, The Goonies, and Gossip Girl obsessions, here’s everything you need to know about a potential second season. This content is imported from {embed-name}. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. There’s no confirmation or release date. Netflix has yet to officially renew the 10-episode drama, which was released on April 15. However, should the show get green-lit for season 2, production will likely be delayed. Filming on TV shows and films has halted across the board due to COVID-19, meaning Outer Banks season 2 (likely) won’t be headed to our screens until late 2021 or

June 17, 2020 at 08:20PM If you’ve ever doubted the power of your vote before, look around. The results of elections from local and state levels to the senate and the presidency have never been more apparent, and it’s obvious we need change. So voting is pretty f*cking important and we’re getting fired up for the 2020 election. Enthusiasm from the fashion world is coming in the form of a range of cool tees and designer merch, all branded with the important reminder to V-O-T-E. Maybe you’re all about the sweet look of a handmade Lingua Franca sweater that comes embroidered with the ever-relevant, “nevertheless, she voted”, or you’re eying the urgent call to action on Michael Stars’s tee: “Use Your Voice and Vote.” In any case, this is a fashion statement we can all get behind – and more importantly, not just wear, but take to heart. Know your rights, register, and get ready to vote in your primary (if you haven’t already) and the general election in November – because there’s too much at stake not to.
