June 17, 2020 at 03:23PM Anna de Lanoy Meijer and Nina Poot know a thing or two about chic home interiors. After all, they are the founders of Anna + Nina, a jewellery, clothing and homewares label, where one-third of their brand is dedicated to creating intricate additions for your home interior. Earlier this Spring, the co-founders took to Who What Wear UK’s Instagram to reveal their tips on how to create the ultimate table setting, and their advice was so good we couldn’t just let it disappear in 24 hours when the Live Story did. From their more-is-more aesthetic to their tips on clashing prints, below, the founders outline the ways in which they like to set their tables in order to bring that true restaurant feel to their homes. After all, as they noted on Instagram, “These days, we can not go out to a restaurant. So let’s let the restaurant come to us!” So whether you’re in the market for a few new placemats, some talking-point cutlery, a centerpiece candle holder or simply want to know how to bring all these items together, keep scrolling for four tips on how to create the perfect table setting. “To us, there are no rules. Your dinner should be a party, and your table should look like one. Mix and match. Find a print, a table cloth or a napkin that you love, and work around it. We believe in more is more and love to combine different patterns, stripes and colours with

Shopify Highlights Black-Owned Businesses on Shop App
June 17, 2020 at 03:23PM Canadian e-commerce platform Shopify has updated its Shop app to feature a spotlight on Black-owned businesses. From today, when customers open the app and click on the ‘shops’ tab, they’ll see a clickable message box directing them to a list of Black-owned businesses they can shop then and there. It’s a win-win for both brands and consumers in the sense that it gives businesses greater visibility and opportunity to be discovered on site, and customers a chance to discover and support a brand they may not previously have known. Photograph courtesy of Spotify Writing about the change on its blog, the Ottawa-based company wrote, “Shopify’s mission has always been to help all people – no matter their race, religion, gender, sexuality or otherwise – achieve independence by making it easier to start, run and grow a business. We are committed to elevating the awareness of Black-owned businesses to support more voices in entrepreneurship, democratize commerce and reduce the barriers to starting a business for everyone.” Shopify added that it will continue to “evolve the [app] experience to present a diversity of voices that reflects our mission to make commerce better for everyone.” The new update follows the company’s donations to the NAACP, Black Health Alliance Canada and Campaign Zero in recent weeks, totaling $1 million. things of lately + recent eats
June 17, 2020 at 11:26AM Hi friends! I hope you’re enjoying the morning. Some exciting news news today: Beautycounter friends and family is here! Click here to get 15% off my favorite makeup and skincare + 30% off holiday sets. I’ll share some of my top picks in the bottom of this post. What are you up to today? We’re doing the usual hangout and pool rotation over here. A new development: I’ve woken up early to work out the past two days in a row. I’m not a morning person AT ALL but since the Pilot had to leave super early to fly, I went to bed early, too. I can’t decide if I’m a fan yet or not. I’ve gotten pretty used to my late-night popsicle and Queer Eye routine. Some adventures from lately: It was madre’s birthday, so we went swimming at her house and brought a cake with us. Nadine’s bakery here in Tucson is RIDICULOUS for all of my local friends. We got a triple layer white cake with strawberry jam filling and vanilla buttercream. It was a lovely night to celebrate someone we love so much! Sitting with my fave guy, watching the girls giggle and splash in the water is one of my fave spots: When the Pilot got home from his recent trip, I wanted to surprise him with a fancier dinner than our usual rotations. I also figured that since we haven’t had people over in so long, I should probably practice

The #1 Most Damaging Thing You’re Probably Doing To Your Hair
June 17, 2020 at 10:58AM What’s the most damaging habit you have when it comes to caring for your hair? We would’ve guessed it’s those tightly wound buns we wrap our hair in before last-minute yoga classes — or those few times a month we use a hairdryer while our hair is still damp. However, one of our most trusted haircare pros here in L.A., Christine Thompson, Color Director for Spoke & Weal, recently told us that the worst thing we can do for our hair is to get it wet. Period. While we were tempted to take Christine’s word for it and run full board into a shower-free lifestyle (anyone else showering less while working from home?), the truth is a bit more complicated. Hair is weaker and more vulnerable when it’s wet. When hair swells it can’t take as much tension so it’s quicker to break. Christine describes the cuticle as “the protective armor of the hair. You want to keep it closed as much as possible. If the cuticle is open when you are brushing it or rough drying with a towel it can create breakage.” According to Christine, the science behind wet hair damage starts with understanding the pH scale: “It’s a myth that cold water closes the cuticle of the hair. It’s actually the pH of the hair that determines if the cuticle opens and closes. The pH of hair, when dry, ranges from around 4.5 – 5.5, just like our skin. Distilled water has a pH of
Why Boxing is What’s Missing From Your Workout
June 17, 2020 at 10:10AM Many people relate boxing to violence, and as a result, completely miss the fact that it is an amazing workout and doesn’t require you to have to fight someone. Boxing is one of the most intense workouts there is that can help you tone up, lose weight, and even build muscle. If you’ve ever seen […] The post Why Boxing is What’s Missing From Your Workout appeared first on SafeandHealthylife.
