Six Questions With Designer Sid Neigum

June 15, 2020 at 07:49PM For nearly a decade, Sid Neigum has remained one of the most intriguing designers in the Canadian fashion landscape. Originally hailing from Alberta, the now Toronto-based Neigum’s collections have become known for a sense of attainable luxury and attention to craft, with his most recent pieces featuring delicate plissé details and dramatic metallic fabrics. We caught up with Neigum to see what he’s been working on during the COVID-19 crisis, and how he been staying positive through the global pandemic. You’ve been running your brand for almost ten years. What do you know now that you wish you knew then? To have more patience; it’s a marathon, not a sprint. What’s been the biggest and most important change to the global fashion industry that you’ve noticed since launching your brand? I think we are seeing that change right now. Changes to the calendar, timing, overproduction/overconsumption, inclusion, diversity. It is empowering to watch that change unfold and to be able to take part in it. What do you feel has been the biggest key to your success as a designer? Grit and luck. Photography by Brent Goldsmith. How do you keep evolving your brand? Staying curious, learning, and researching. How are you staying positive through the COVID-19 crisis and ongoing protests and actions right now? Meditation, running, reading, listening. Recently I have shifted focus to create level 3 and 4 waterproof medical gowns. It is rewarding to be able to contribute in a positive way. What are

Mary Trump, Donald Trump’s Niece, Is Reportedly Publishing a ‘Tell-All’ About the President

June 15, 2020 at 06:51PM If you’re looking to read up on President Trump before the election this fall, you’re in luck. A new “tell-all” is set to publish this summer, written by a member of Trump’s own family. According to The Daily Beast, Mary Trump, niece of Donald Trump, will be publishing “harrowing and salacious” stories in Too Much And Never Enough this August. Below, all you need to know about Mary and her forthcoming book. Who is Mary Trump? Mary Trump is the daughter of President Trump’s deceased brother, Fred Trump Jr. According to The Daily Beast, the 55-year-old has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and has been generally quiet about her family for decades. What will be included in her book? The Daily Beast reports that Too Much And Never Enough will be published by Simon & Schuster on August 11th, shortly before the Republican National Convention. However, if you can’t wait that long, the site reveals some of what you can expect in Mary’s story. According to people “familiar with the matter,” Mary will discuss how she had a hand in helping the New York Times‘ 2018 Pulitzer-Prize winning investigation into Donald Trump’s taxes. The investigation found that Donald “received at least $413 million in today’s dollars from his father’s real estate empire, much of it through tax dodges in the 1990s.” Reportedly, Mary supplied the Times with Donald’s father’s tax returns as well as other confidential family documents. (The Times has declined to comment.) It’s

Michael Kors Announces New Approach to Fashion Calendar

June 15, 2020 at 06:07PM In the wake of social distancing measures, store closures and fashion week cancellations as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, brands have begun to reassess the way in which they design and present collections to consumers, with many advocating for change. Today, Michael Kors announced that he will bid farewell to the traditional fashion calendar in favour of a new, more streamlined approach. His announcement follows similar declarations from Gucci and Saint Laurent. In a detailed press release, the American designer revealed that he will not show during NYFW in September (it is still yet to be seen whether this event will go ahead in light of current circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and social distancing) and will instead present his S/S21 collection “sometime between October and mid-November” of this year in an as-yet unknown format. Beyond that, Kors will only present two collections a year for Michael Kors Collection – one for spring/summer and the other for fall/winter – and deliveries of these collections will happen “incrementally” over the season so as to “more closely [reflect] how customers in today’s world actually live and shop.” Furthermore, the brand will sell its collection to retailers ahead of revealing them to the press and public to help introduce a more reasonable pace for retail supply chains and factories. It will also reassess when its Fall collection is released, noting that it will likely be “sometime between mid-March and mid-April.” Kors said these changes are “long overdue” and
