Along The Road To Change: Self-Care + Trauma Techniques For the Long Haul
June 03, 2020 at 11:00AM The road to change in our communities’ legal and cultural stance toward racism is a long one. For the past few days, we’ve paused all content in solidarity with the current outcry against racial injustice in our law enforcement and on. Just as we have all recently learned in our collective experience with Covid-19, albeit in a different way, crisis or no, daily life treads on in some way, shape or form. The sun doesn’t stop rising. In some ways, when we’re in crisis, we wish it would. We wish that we could have a pause to deal with life’s hard, but necessary interruptions — sometimes the consistency of the earth’s rotation seems cruel when we’re in crisis, but we can also see it as a comfort if we choose to. The reality is that we must learn how to create meaningful changes to protect our communities against injustice while we do business, tend to our families, survive all the other struggles of being human and take care of our own physical and emotional well-being. As a wellness site, one of our main concerns right now is how to help our community — especially people of color — deal with the trauma, heartbreak and emotional overwhelm at this time in our nation. Our initial impulse and coping mechanisms often drive us to look away from our difficult feelings or funnel them into un-conscientious expressions — from addiction to violence to self-harm. As we’ve all been echoing for
This Is How Our Favourite Fashion Girls Are Looking After Their Hair at Home
June 03, 2020 at 06:30AM There’s no doubt that the current lockdown situation has affected our daily beauty routines in different ways. While some of us are thriving as we take a more laissez-faire approach to our appearance, others are itching to get back to the salon. One thing that unites us all in our recent beauty experiences, however, is having to deal with lockdown hair. From grown-out roots to breakage, it seems we’re all at a loss about what to do with our lengths. Whether you’re indulging in more hair masks than ever or have even turned to an at-home cut, believe us when we say we really feel your pain. Constantly seeking new ways to deal with our misbehaving strands, we reached out to some of the chicest people we know to see what at-home routines they have adopted in a bid to get their hair to play ball. “My natural hair is pretty wild! As it is really thick, there’s a whole lot of frizz and volume (not in a good way) if I don’t use any products in it. It can also get quite dry so I always apply serums or oil to the ends after washing. Usually, I would blow-dry it straight and then run my GHDs over any parts that are a bit frizzy still. “Since I’ve been at home more, I’ve noticed my hair seems drier than usual. Breakages are another pain point for me because, as my hair gets longer, it gets weaker. I can see
Everyone’s Comparing This Affordable Skincare Brand to The Ordinary
June 03, 2020 at 06:30AM Let’s play a game: Name the most minimal, most buzzworthy and most affordable skincare brand available right now. If you shouted The Ordinary, we commend you. The brand does, indeed, offer up a spectacular lineup of skin heroes, and some of the brand’s main talking points are simplistic, in-demand formulas clocking in at very impressive (i.e., budget-friendly) price points. However, as much as we love The Ordinary, it’s actually not the holy-grail skincare brand we’re referring to. Beauty lovers everywhere, meet The Inkey List—the under-the-radar brand that delivers sleek and minimal product formulas for under £15 each. Yep, you read that right! Founded by former Boots’ branding and product developers Colette Newberry and Mark Curry, the British company has been garnering lots of talk and excitement about its unique M.O.: formulating whip-smart products made with the most well-known—and wanted—skincare ingredients. (Think rosehip oil, hyaluronic acid, collagen, retinol and more.) That said, there are a few exceptions, as its Polyglutamic Acid, Multi-Biotic Moisturiser and Heptapeptide Serum are touted by the brand as “innovation” formulas due to the very causal fact there’s nothing else on the market quite like them. Cool, no? Of course, as we mentioned, people can’t help but compare The Inkey List to The Ordinary since they contain common denominators like single-ingredient-oriented product formulas, high-efficacy actives and non-terrifying price tags. After trying out almost all of the brand’s offerings ourselves, we don’t think it’s quite fair to compare. Since there are quite a few products to choose from all boasting very enticing claims and labels, we thought we’d give you

I Just Managed to Create 5 Summer Outfits All for Under £170 Each
June 03, 2020 at 06:00AM This week, it was reported that the UK has experienced the sunniest spring since records began. And, of course, in typical Brit style, we have managed to simultaneously celebrate by basking in any patch of sun we can find while still complaining about being hot and bothered. For those unfamiliar with the UK’s social behaviours, moaning about the weather is essentially our main way of bonding with each other. Anyway, I digress. As temperatures start to push the mid-twenties, it’s probably time to do a bit of a wardrobe switch-up and pack away our knitwear and boots and bring out the warm weather faves. For many of us, the budget may be an issue right now, so I wanted to put together a visual guide to creating an expensive-looking summer outfit without spending too much. I would also recommend using the below to spark inspiration for styling items of clothing that already sit in your wardrobe. For example, dig out those unworn shorts and style them with a colour-matching top and chunky chain, or why not pair a classic Breton top with white linen trousers? All set? Scroll down to see, shop and get inspired by the affordable outfits that I’ve put together for you. Next up, the biggest spring/summer 2020 fashion trends you need to know.
