A Vancouver-based Street Style Photographer is Selling Prints to Benefit The Loveland Foundation

July 02, 2020 at 04:18PM There are many different ways to support the Black Lives Matter movement through advocacy and financial investment. And this week, Canadian street style photographer Sabrina Fenster, who works under the moniker StreetScout, launched the sale of a series of prints (some with handwritten notes from the images’ subjects), with 100% of the proceeds from the images going to The Loveland Foundation. Founded in 2018 by writer and lecturer Rachel Cargle, Loveland provides a therapy fund for Black women and girls across America, as well as opportunities for advancement through fellowships, residency programs and listening tours. “I am using my street style photography as a platform to give to a charitable foundation and create ongoing and tangible social impact,” says Fenster about her mission with the series. “My goal is to create and share prints that are driven by purpose, and also give you, the buyer, the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change while hanging something beautiful in your home. Not only are you supporting the cause, you are getting a token from the cause. Each print serves as a reminder of your ongoing commitment to create positive change toward racial equality.” We caught up with Fenster, who has also been documenting BLM protests, to find out more about why she’s selling her photos, and what she’s learned by following the momentum of Black Lives Matter. Harry Styles’s Rainbow Crochet Sweater Is Now a DIY Project on TikTok

July 02, 2020 at 04:23PM When Harry Styles prepared for his performance on NBC’s Today back in February, he wore a multicolor patchwork crochet cardigan from JW Anderson (originally $1,890), not at all unlike Dua Lipa’s loungewear shorts of choice. Are you sensing a groovy, ’70s-inspired trend? Eagle-eyed fans were perhaps more into Harry’s chill dress-rehearsal look than the peach blazer and polka-dot tie he performed in. Harry styled the Spring/Summer 2020 runway item with Gucci jeans, a graphic tee, a pearl necklace, and his signature fistful of chunky rings. He looked great, that’s for sure. So we don’t blame TikTok users for trying to re-create the fashion moment as a stay-home activity these past few months. Now, JW Anderson is releasing the pattern to the public – a little DIY made easy . . . or easier. “I am so impressed and incredibly humbled by this trend and everyone knitting the cardigan. I really wanted to show our appreciation so we are sharing the pattern with everyone. Keep it up!” Jonathan wrote on Instagram, directing followers to an email address on his website where you can write in to request a PDF of the pattern. Scroll through to reminisce about the fashion moment du jour that TikTok-ers seem to have on their minds, then see some of our favorite remakes of the sweater thus far. Not into DIY? We rounded up some similar, more affordable versions of the sold-out colorblock cardigan so you can still get in on Harry’s

Seleen Saleh on Her Experience as a Black Woman Street Style Photographer

July 02, 2020 at 01:30PM For a little over the last decade, bloggers, influencers, and street style stars have opened up the once mysterious and elite world of the fashion industry. This shift has been aided by the ones behind the lens, the street style photographers, capturing the looks of everyday people as well as the fashion glitterati during Fashion Weeks all over the globe. Behind the scenes of those memorable Fashion Week moments is often one style star in front of the flashing bulbs of 10 or 20 photographers from major agencies and publications, jostling for the perfect shot. Street style photographer Seleen Saleh is a Fashion Week vet, and as a Black woman in the boys’ club of fashion photography, she stands out. We had the pleasure of chatting with Saleh as she celebrates the release of her new coffee table book, Street Culture – the first of it’s kind to be released by a Black woman – documenting the street style of BIPOC creatives in the fashion and entertainment industry. Saleh admits that the street style scene can be very aggressive. Female photographers have mentioned the physical jockeying for positions in the photography pits during runway shows. It is no easy feat to release a book during a pandemic. Though she was stressed with release dates being pushed back and promotion plans changing, in hindsight, Saleh feels Street Culture came out at the right time. “My book was created to inspire! It was created to celebrate each
