July 01, 2020 at 03:00PM This July, we’re shopping Black-owned businesses for feel good, stylish summer items that put smiles on our faces. You can be sure we’ll rally behind these exciting bag and shoe labels, jewelry designers, and swimsuit companies year-round, but let’s focus on summer staples, because we’re finally venturing outside and willing to dress up a little for social distance walks and small, safe gatherings (accessorizing with a mask first and foremost, of course). That calls for breezy throw-overs, swimwear, lightweight handbags, and delicate jewelry made for layering. A lot of the items on this list have unique stories, too. The woven raffia bow pot bag Dana has her eye on is handcrafted by women in Ghana, who are passing down their signature artistry. Meanwhile, Lisa calls out her big love for Lemlem, which was founded by supermodel Liya Kebede and partners with artisan groups across Africa to complete its gorgeous collection of bohemian essentials. Ahead, you’ll discover even more gems to shop in support of these incredible Black artists and designers who are on our radar now and forever. See Beyoncé’s Full Velvet and Mesh BET Awards Look From Head to Toe
July 01, 2020 at 02:56PM Beyoncé allowed us all to direct our full attention to her BET Humanitarian Award acceptance speech on Sunday night, when the event aired virtually. For that, we are grateful. Though she gave us a sneak peek at the jewelry she was wearing behind the camera – we all got to see her crystal drop choker and how it played up her beautiful makeup done by artist Rokael Lizama – we were less focused on the possibility of an elegant outfit and more in tune to her moving, powerful message. Later, however, Beyoncé’s stylist Zerina Akers shared her full look: a velvet, high-low Alessandra Rich dress with floor-grazing ruffles, a bow at the waist, and three crystalized buttons to go with the accessories. Bey added mesh gloves and, peeking out from underneath her gown, we spotted her crystalized ankle-strap sandals. It’s safe to say that she proved, with just one look, fashion is truly seasonless, and a thick, velvet dress can be appropriate for a summer award show if she and Zerina give it the nod of approval. Even though we wouldn’t have been disappointed to miss a fashion moment from The Queen this time around – we’d still have that speech to rewatch over and over – we’re glad Beyoncé did, indeed, go glam for this very special moment. Holly Just Wore a Lesser-Known Dress Brand We Know You’ll Love
July 01, 2020 at 12:00PM Honestly, what would we do without Instagram? I’m trying not to think about the amount of time I’m spent on the app during lockdown but it has meant I’ve been able to stay updated with Holly Willoughby‘s fashion choices. The TV presenter has a knack of wearing cool brands but outfits that don’t feel too “fashion”, if you know what I mean. Today’s choice? A dress by vintage-inspired brand Coco Fennell. The eponymous label was created in 2011 and Fennell, who was previously featured in Best Wardrobes in Britain, told us her reasons behind creating the brand: “Both me and my sister had fluctuated in weight quite a lot around the time when I started [the brand] and I think when we were both bigger, it was really difficult to find well-priced, flattering clothes. She was going to do it with me and then didn’t in the end, but I wanted to make flattering, affordable, girly clothes really. “ In 2020, that brand is almost exclusively printed dresses that come with, its now trademark, square necklines and puff sleeves. Holly’s dress today is a pretty white with rose print and she’s styled it with nude heels. A dress brand you don’t want to miss out on. July 01, 2020 at 12:00PM We launched our Who What Wear Collection in Europe earlier this year—a curated edit designed with the most-popular insider trends in mind. Think thong sandals, oversized clutch bags, printed dresses, Bermuda shorts and statement trench coats. These pieces all have a fashion edge, but aren’t just fad trend pieces, as they are designed to be re-worn year after year. There are certain hero pieces in the collection that have been particularly popular with the influencer crowd, including a zebra top worn by Anne-Laure Mais and a lime green handbag which has been one of the most Instagrammed pictures from the collection. These items, and several more cult buys, have just gone into the summer sale on Zalando—so keep scrolling for our edit. Wear these shorts with the matching blazer, or separately with a white T-shirt. This zebra print top is one of our favourite pieces in the whole collection. Both the dress and the bag are now in the sale. An easy-to-style slip skirt that you can wear in autumn with chunky boots. This lime green bag has been one of the most talked about pieces in the collection. You’ll wear these boots all year round. The black version are now sold out—but are still available in snake print.
