September 02, 2020 at 02:41PM Meet Jenn Harper, the founder of Cheekbone Beauty, a made-in-Canada cosmetics line of colourful lipsticks and lip glosses, plus complexion products, focused on low waste and sustainability: think biodegradable packaging and sustainably sourced ingredients. What’s more, 10 per cent of Cheekbone Beauty’s profits are donated to the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, a non-profit organization providing reconciliation-based public education, research and support to promote the safety and wellbeing of First Nations children and their families. Formerly a sales professional, the idea for Cheekbone Beauty – which was established in 2016 and puts Indigenous youth at its centre – came to Jenn in a life-changing dream. Here, the entrepreneur shares, in her own words, her brand’s ethos and how she turned past trauma and struggle into do-good triumph. On the dream that sparked it all: “I was a serious alcoholic for many, many years and got sober in 2014. Then, in January of 2015, I literally had a dream about making lip gloss — and I don’t dream very often. The highlight of that dream was little Indigenous girls with the rosiest little cheeks, and they were laughing and just so happy. So I jumped out of bed that night, grabbed my laptop and typed up what I now know is called a business plan (I did not know that’s what it was called back then). That was the beginning of it. I took 2015 and 2016 to learn as much as I could

Cate Blanchett Just Stepped Out in the Perfect Tailored Autumn Outfit
September 02, 2020 at 12:24PM While some of the year’s biggest social events are now tentatively going ahead, it’s fair to say that they won’t quite be the same. Masks will be worn, social distancing measures put in place and air kissing swapped out for elbow bumps. However, there is one thing that remains the same and that’s beautiful outfits. This week Cate Blanchett has become the ultimate embodiment of this, making her entrance at the Venice Film Festival in what can only be described as the ultimate cool-girl, tailored get-up. Cate has got the balance just right: she looks pulled together yet not ostentatious, trend-led yet not clad in designer It-buys. With a pair of white tailored trousers styled with a classic white shirt, black roll neck and navy blazer, it has definite nautical vibes (well, she is standing on a pier, after all) and is ideal for this tricky in-between season period. We have a feeling that there’ll be plenty more where this came from, so keep checking up on Who What Wear to see the latest Venice Film Festival looks. But, for now, scroll down to see Cate Blanchett‘s winning outfit and shop similar items. Dietician Maya Feller On Aging, Health + NAD+
September 02, 2020 at 11:09AM MAYA FELLER, MS, RD, CDN is a Brooklyn-based registered dietitian who is a nationally recognized expert on nutrition therapy for the management and risk reduction of non-communicable diseases. Maya believes in providing nutrition education from an anti-bias, patient-centered and culturally sensitive approach we appreciate. Dedicated to promoting nutrition education that helps the public to make better supplement and food choices for health and longevity, we turned to Maya for her take on “cellular health”, a wellness topic so all-encompassing, it’s actually easy to overlook… The human body is made up of trillions of cells, each with its own composition and function. Our cells work together in a complex harmony to carry out various functions. Of the trillions of cells within the human body, there are approximately 200 unique types of cells that have a number of different organelles, the microscopic subunits within cells. Organelles are function-specific while being integral to keeping your cells alive. You may ask yourself why you should care about the health of your cells. The short answer is, your cells are responsible for every interaction within your body. Brain cells transmit signals throughout the body, muscle cells (myocytes); cardiac, smooth muscle, and skeletal are responsible for the day to day functioning of all parts of your body. Our bodies can experience stress or damage as a result of external exposures and or internal alteration, that have a direct impact on the health of our cells. On Aging Simply put, aging is

7 Wedding Guest Trends I Can’t Wait to Try in 2021
September 02, 2020 at 08:00AM In March, weddings were put on hold for several months. And while we can now attend nuptials for no more than 30 people, if you had an extensive array of RSVPs for 2020, then you’ll know that many couples postponed their big day until next year. This means that while you didn’t get to celebrate this year, you can start planning your wedding guest dress for the following. At Who What Wear, we lovedresses (you might have noticed), so it gives me great pleasure to look through all the biggest dress trends of this year and the coming season to pick out the more suitable pieces for a wedding. Keep scrolling for our guide to the best wedding guest dress trends for 2020 and beyond. Style Notes: As seen on Ellie of Slip into Style, this is all about floral dresses that have something fun about them, whether it’s bold colours, big sleeves or oversize shoulders. Style Notes: Take it from us: The minidress is back. Go for long sleeves or a high neck to keep it looking elegant. Style Notes: Want a neckline that will always make you feel confident? Try the square neck. Style Notes: Perhaps a more controversial choice, head-to-toe red is a huge trend for autumn/winter 2020. That said, if you’re worried it’ll look like you’re trying to upstage the bride, you can always check on the dress code. Style Notes: Minimalists, if you’re looking for a dress you’ll get loads of wear from, then it’s the two-tone

The Designer Bags That We Really Love In 2020
September 02, 2020 at 06:29AM At the beginning of the year, we already knew which designer bags were going to dominate in 2020. How did we predict correctly? Well, it’s a lot more than just guesswork. We spend time speaking to brands and buyers and looking at what’s trending in the fashion industry to see which bags are going to come out on top during the year. Of course, cult buys and new brands can emerge at any moment, surprising even the most seasoned of fashion buyers and editors, but there are certain new styles that I guarantee we’ll be talking about as hero buys this December. That said, we didn’t know the pandemic was coming and the financial implications of that on the fashion industry and personal budgets. However, despite this, global fashion search platform Lyst revealed just yesterday in its roundup of the most popular brands of the year so far that the likes of Gucci, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Prada and more appear in the top 10. So which totes have made an impact on the year so far? There’s Chanel’s 19 that just might become as iconic as the legendary 2.55 bag, and Bottega Veneta is set to have a year just as golden as the last. Every buyer I spoke to told me they just can’t order enough Bottega bags. There’s also Katie Holmes’s favourite label Khaite, which has released a practical tote that makes teeny-tiny mini bags look sillier than ever. A mood we are seeing across
Sorry, Summer—We’re a Bit Distracted by These 5 Autumn Colour Trends
September 02, 2020 at 06:13AM It might only be the first week of September and, yes, summer wares may still line the shelves of our favourite high street stores, but we can’t help but notice that the new-in sections are slowly but surely being infiltrated by autumn pieces—from trans-seasonal jackets to sturdy boots—and we’re not going to lie, we’re pretty excited about it. There are a few colours that inevitably dominate every single autumn, however, there are some new additions that are set to make a splash this September. While last year everyone lost it over browns and khakis, this year it’s more about colour binaries: think lime green rubbing shoulders with burnt orange, and pale beige put into relief by fashion editor black (yes we know it’s not technically a colour but… fashion). Of course, we don’t like to be too prescriptive about these things, but if you think about it, giving a nod to a new season hue is surely one of the easiest ways to freshen up your wardrobe. After all, you probably already own at least one piece in one of the below shades, so it’s merely a case of experimenting with new combinations—for example, why not try a lime green knit with a pleated beige skirt? Or pack a punch with a head-to-toe black ensamble? So, if you’re desperate for a little autumnal inspo, keep scrolling to see the five colours that we are most excited to wear for the new season and 16 pieces that you can wear already. Style Notes: Offering a stylish alternative to last year’s muted browns and beiges, pale beige is
