June 06, 2020 at 06:30AM I must admit, hair removal isn’t the most glamorous of beauty topics. The techniques are usually painful, uncomfortable, time-consuming and costly. However, with that being said, I do also believe that it is one of the most important topics to talk about openly. You see, while for me, writing about lipsticks and shampoo might be fun, it’s not necessarily life-changing content. When it comes to hair removal though, the lack of conversation around different options has many of us feeling deflated, self-conscious and feeling as though there are no real solutions. And as a beauty editor, I am by no means exempt from this. As someone that has dark and abundant body and facial hair, I too have often felt at a loss over what to do. My sensitive skin means waxing and shaving processes are usually troublesome and irritating. And actually, with outdoor excursions limited and salons still closed for the time being, I have been taking this time out to really think about how I want to go forward with my hair removal options because, the truth is, after five years in the game, I’m still none the wiser to what is best. As you also know, it’s also a great place to shop for basics that look more expensive than they actually are. And while a diverse wardrobe is wonderful, if you want the ease of shopping for an entire outfit (or seasonal wardrobe even) all at one place, you could certainly get away with it at H&M. So where to even start? I find it easiest to build an outfit around a particular trend, adding on whatever basics best complement it. Easy to do at H&M. And currently, it has tons and tons of on-trend pieces for summer, from tiered dresses to sweatshorts to tangerine orange. Keep scrolling to shop the trends and the H&M basics that best suit them. This pretty printed top works so well with high-waisted shorts and flats. A babydoll dress makes a statement on its own, so keep the rest of your look minimal. These bold trousers work well with any neutral colour. Sweatshorts are a basic and a trend. I love dressing them up with an oversize button-down. This unbelievably affordable midi dress is an outfit itself.  This sporty cropped top works beautifully with tailored pieces that dress it up a bit. Actually groundbreaking), pretty white dresses and Bermuda-style shorts. While these trends and many others were pretty much guaranteed at the beginning of the year, January now feels very much like a lifetime ago. Since then, countries across the world have been locked down with few people spending time outside their homes. This has, undoubtedly, led to a whole host of other trends emerging for summer 2020 that we couldn’t have predicted even six weeks ago. With plenty of people now working from home, basic white vest tops and joggers have shot to the top of our shopping lists. No longer am I just a slipper-clad working-from-homer stuck in a never-ending cycle of moving from desk to fridge to sofa. Rather, I am the lady of the manor, an 18th-century duchess who spends her mornings reading quietly by the window and afternoons swishing ’round the house calling for more Earl Grey tea please, butler (aka husband). I’ve watched as magazines have been forced to delve into the archives yet come out with the most stunning finds, which more than deserves a second outing. Plus, as we seek to make our shopping habits more sustainable, you could argue than the same rule could apply to imagery. Why create so much newness when we have a rich and inspiring back catalogue at our disposal?  Of course, there’ll always be a need for innovation and fresh ideas in fashion, but the irony is that I personally find there to be more examples of original and unique style in the archive than there sometimes is in the world of modern media. I’ve spent hours finding new homeware brands and cool interior design Instagram accounts for inspiration. I’ve also been getting lost on Pinterest. This is partly down to nosiness and a desire to see how other people are using their spaces, but also because I have an impulse to show more love to my home while spending so much time indoors. I’ve cleaned more than ever before and spent a whole weekend lovingly painting one door. Like many of us, I’m being careful with my spending, so the last thing I’d want to do in this period is make people feel like they need to spend more or feel pressured to make home improvements. As someone who has recently moved into a new house, I know just how expensive interiors can be, and so I want to share some of the things I’ve found along the way. Ever since I got my moving date back in January, I’ve been on the lookout for home accessories with some personality that are under £100. My favourite places to shop have been H&M Home, John Lewis, Arket and Zara Home, as they are sites I regularly browse for ideas and escapism.
