After all, despite the fact that I was a fashion-obsessed child (who would regularly change my outfit multiple times a day, much to my mother’s dismay), I’d hardly presume any of those outfits would actually hold up over 20 years down the track. Though, recently, upon looking back on a few old photos, I realised that several of the trends I wore as a child in the ’90s have resurfaced as It items today. From bike shorts to exaggerated sleeves, daisy prints to statement collars, the trending styles of 2020 are not too dissimilar to those that were in several decades ago. Whether it’s due to fashion’s current obsession with all things nostalgia or simply the fact that trends go in cycles, I’m unsure. I’ve Been Running for Over 10 Years—Here Are the Best Trainers
June 17, 2020 at 06:00AM I remember where I was the first time I went for a run. I was on my Erasmus year 15 years ago in Toulouse, stuck in my halls of residence and desperate to get out and move my legs. I was slow, stopped regularly and didn’t go very far. I continued running regularly, even though I wasn’t very good, but gave up once I was back home from university. Then, 10 years ago, I moved to London and was in need of some form of exercise that was A) free and B) easy (ish) to do, so I decided to pick it up again. This time, thanks to advances in technology, I had apps and an iPhone with my playlists on to get me through. However, I still found I wasn’t quite getting my distance up, so I turned to the Couch to 10K app, which I completed. I then managed to knock out a 10K during the weekends and even trained for a half-marathon. Throughout all that time, there’s one thing I’ve never compromised on: decent trainers. The thing is, running is high-impact, and if you run outside, you need a pair of trainers to cushion your weight as you slam your feet down on the pavement. Thanks to my time running, I’ve had the chance to try out a few sneakers. But why exactly am I talking about this now? Since March, the searches for running shoes has grown dramatically. I was born a few years later in Toronto, and my family bounced around a lot between Toronto and Brampton. I even lived in Calgary, Alberta for one year as well. I’ve always been in a Black space for the most part, meaning I’ve always lived in areas where there was a highly concentrated Black or South Asian community. That was beautiful to me.
