Here’s What It Really Means When a Fashion Retailer Takes the 15 Percent Pledge

June 16, 2020 at 05:36PM Sephora is the first of four major retailers that were asked to join the 15 Percent Pledge upon its realization by Aurora James on May 29, 2020. James, who is the creative director and founder of Brother Vellies, posted about the need for businesses to invest in the future of Black communities on her feed the day after having a discussion with a friend about how Black-owned businesses are struggling in the midst of the coronavirus crisis. Since then, she’s created a website that clearly states the three steps of the process a company must implement when taking the pledge and also includes a petition that you can sign to stand with and support the pledge. She also enlisted artist Mona Chalabi to create the above graphic – which you might’ve seen floating around social media – that outlines how Black-owned businesses have seen major struggle since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, far more than any other racial group, and encourages big businesses to look around them and see the ways in which they can help long-term and put money and resources back into Black communities consistently. POPSUGAR talked with the 15 Percent Pledge team, who outlined Aurora’s strategy and also shed light on some of the processes you might have questions about. The first on my list: How do we hold brands accountable and ensure that any plan that is published – internally and externally, for the consumer to see – is actually

Kanye West Files Trademark Application for Yeezy Beauty

June 16, 2020 at 04:08PM It’s no secret that the Kardashian-Jenner family knows how to launch a best-selling beauty line – so it makes sense then that Kanye West, husband of Kim and brother-in-law of Kylie, would also be looking to expand his Yeezy empire into the beauty territory. Overnight it was revealed that West filed paperwork for a trademark application for Yeezy Beauty on June 2. According to WWD, the application includes “makeup products such as foundation, mascara, lipstick and body glitter and skincare products like face cream, exfoliants, face masks and body wash, among others.” Additionally, the application also covers personal care items, haircare products and home items such as candles and aromatherapy pillows. This isn’t the first time West has filed paperwork for a beauty trademark – back in 2017, he filed a similar trademark application for DONDA Cosmetics, named after this late mother. He also previously signed a licensing deal with Parlux for a range of fragrances back in 2009, but neither project came to fruition. The Grammy Award winning rapper has built one of the most successful celebrity-led fashion businesses in Yeezy. Earlier this year, Forbes declared West to hold billionaire status as a result of Yeezy and its success. Combine this with the beauty brand launching power of Kris Jenner and Yeezy Beauty might just rule them all. Watch this space. Les Mills BODYCOMBAT review

June 16, 2020 at 11:17AM Sharing my review of BODYCOMBAT from Les Mills On Demand. This post isn’t sponsored, but my friends at Les Mills are giving you 30 days free with this link. This is my fave online platform for workouts! There’s so much variety and the instructors are incredible.  Hi friends! How’s the day going? We’re just taking it easy here and enjoying having the Pilot back home after a 6-day trip. The girls and I have a blast together, but the days can be a little long, especially with the current restrictions. (I took them to Walgreen’s this weekend to pick out some pool toys and it was their first time being in a store this entire time. The were SO PUMPED.) We had an awesome dinner last night and today, we’ll probably hang out with the cousins and go for a swim. Workout-wise, I feel like I’ve been the most consistent over the past few months than I’ve ever been. I haven’t been able to visit my favorite classes or studios months but I’ve made it a non-negotiable to get in some kind of movement each day for my mental health. Many days, that 30-45 minutes are the only “alone time” (in quotes because sometimes little ones need snacks, water, or something happens) I get until the kiddos are asleep. It breaks up the day and gives me a boost of energy to power through. I’m fortunate the girls are a bit older so they can
