June 16, 2020 at 11:00AM When you think of Nicole Kidman, her incredible acting career might come into your mind, but what we think about is her always-daring red carpet style. The Australian actress is a legend – both on screen and off. While her award-winning roles in Moulin Rouge, The Hours, Cold Mountain, Lion, and Big Little Lies have solidified her status as a force to be reckoned with, it’s her consistent styling excellence on the red carpet that has proven equally formidable. Nicole is both traditionally glamorous and surprisingly avant-garde in her fashion choices, which makes her a true style chameleon. We love that she never shies away from a jaw-dropping detail, be it an oversize neck bow, a very strong shoulder silhouette, head-to-toe embellishments, or a daring color choice (that chartreuse John Galliano for Dior gown at the 1997 Oscars says it all). And even after almost three decades in the spotlight, she knows how to keep us on our toes. The proof of Nicole’s red carpet evolution (and staying power!) is in each and every look on this list. Anti-Racism Books We’ve Actually Read
June 16, 2020 at 10:00AM As promised, we will not be done discussing racism and police brutality in this country (and globally!) until we see a more just system built. The sad reality is that this will be a long process, which probably won’t see a conclusion in my generation. Deconstructing 400 years of racism in this country takes time, so making antiracism education and learning a part of my daily practice is how I am choosing to be an ally with the Black community. There are so many platforms and ways in which to educate yourself but as a voracious reader my choice has always been books. It’s no secret that I love to read so I thought I would share the anti-racism books I have actually read. ALSO – there’s an incredible movement running until June 20th to encourage people to buy TWO books by Black authors to show their publishing clout and talent and takeover all the bestsellers lists! So buy at least two of these (minus White Fragility which was written by a White woman) by this Saturday. That is all! We’ve seen so many lists of book suggestions, but they’re often long and it’s hard to figure out where to […] The post Anti-Racism Books We’ve Actually Read appeared first on The Healthy Maven. This Chic New High-Street Beauty Collection Is Set to Be a French-Girl Fave
June 16, 2020 at 06:30AM There are very few high-street shops that manage to embody French-girl style as perfectly and effortlessly as Sézane. Over the years, the brand’s pretty pastel knits, laid-back crochet and iconic boxy shirts have come to epitomise French-girl style, and frankly, I couldn’t be more on-board with the whole aesthetic. It’s laid-back, easy and takes chic to a whole new level. However, with that being said, I was always aware that the brand was missing a pretty major trick. While I admit that French-girl style really is an art form, if you ask me, it’s the French girl’s approach to beauty that inspires me the most every day. For a brand like Sézane, which embodies all of the chicest, most stylish things about the French way of life, to not have a beauty offering always upset me a little. For too long I have been itching to discover the secret behind the effortless French-girl glow, and I have always had an inkling that Sézane could be the brand to hold the answers. And now, finally, my wish has been granted. As pared-back and simple as one might expect, Sézane’s new beauty offering consists of bath, body and fragrance treats that look just as chic as they smell and feel. From an oily lip balm that keeps lips soft and supple all day long to a fresh, floral perfume that would impress even the hardest-to-please of noses, I’ve snapped up just about every beauty product Sézane has to offer. And
5 Anti-Ageing Facial Massage Techniques You Can Do at Home
June 16, 2020 at 06:30AM Chances are, at some point over the past few months, you’ve looked into giving yourself a spa-level facial at home. And while nothing beats the feeling of a good, deep cleanse with a luxe, dreamy-smelling cleansing balm, if you really want to reap the benefits of a great at-home facial, you need to know the moves. That’s right, you know those crazy hand movements and massage techniques that facialists carry out while you’re either fighting off sleep or flitting in and out of states of relaxed consciousness? Yep, they’re super important if you want to see drastic anti-ageing results over time. “It’s often news to people that over 40 muscles make up the scaffolding of our face,” says Inge Theron, Founder of FaceGym. “Just like the muscles in the body, the more you move them, the more lifted, tightened and toned they become. Facial muscle stimulation keeps muscles firm, skin tint and stimulates the most important protein for keeping the face looking young, collagen,” she adds. In practical terms, using specific facial massage techniques is thought to help sculpt and lift certain areas of the face for a more youthful complexion. And the good news is that you can carry out the techniques at home on yourself. In fact, the more often you do it, the more impressive the results will be. Keep scrolling for best facial massage techniques for every problem area, according to the experts. As we get older, the skin on our necks can drastically change in appearance. In
The Best Ways to Disguise Roots Until You Can Get to a Salon
June 16, 2020 at 06:30AM The last time I had my hair coloured was mid-December, and I was due a trip to the salon in the coming few weeks for a top-up. We’re now in mid-June, and while some hairdressing salons could be looking to open within the coming few weeks, I’m also aware that, judging by the number of waiting list alerts flying into my inbox, getting an actual appointment is going to be similar to trying to get hold of Glasto tickets. So with the fact that, realistically, I’m not going to be back in a salon chair for at least another month or two, I’ve been looking into different ways I can make my current colour situation work for me. I’ve been inundated by messages from friends and family begging me for any tips on what to do about their own roots too. And the truth is unless you’re brave enough to try a box dye (proceed with caution), there’s really very little you can do other than style the regrowth out as best you can. From plaits to buns and ponytails to flowing waves, keep scrolling for the very best ways to style hair in order to help disguise your roots. Especially when working from home, there really is no better get-stuff-done hairstyle. The topknot is the chic yet easy style that most of us will turn to in times of need. But it turns out a topknot doesn’t just have to be the thrown-up, scruffy style we know it to
5 Skirt Trends You’re Going to See Everywhere This Summer
June 16, 2020 at 06:04AM When it comes to our wardrobes, there are a few key items that tend to get all the limelight. Dresses, for example, are earmarked for life’s most special occasions, and each season, their trends are dissected, analysed and beloved by the masses. Sarah Jessica Parker built an entire career out of an affinity for shoes, not only playing a character who was obsessed with the item but also subsequently parlaying that into a footwear brand of her own. Handbags arguably garner the most hype. After all, who remembers the countless articles that arose after Kylie Jenner gave the world a glimpse into her bag closet? Though today, we’re here to talk about one of the more underrated wardrobe staples: skirts. Personally, I think the item doesn’t get nearly enough credit, being one of the most versatile and trans-seasonal items around. In terms of skirt trends, this summer we’re seeing several styles emerge as It brands like Sir, Ganni, Faithfull and Rixo lead the way in distinctive design. Shirred skirts featuring ruched detailing around the waist and hips have been prominent across both designer and high-street labels, as have printed tie-front skirts thanks to Ganni’s popular design. Pleated skirts are back again, though this year’s iterations feature wide box pleats paired against contemporary prints. Logo skirts are also having a moment across both designer brands and contemporary labels, with typography being used in imaginative ways to create innovative printed pieces. Sure, skirts might not capture the zeitgeist quite like a pair of
The 7 Outfits I’ve Loved Wearing This Summer
June 16, 2020 at 06:00AM Over the last few months, everyone has developed different attitudes to social-distancing dressing. Whether you’ve become a comfy co-ord convert, a legging devotee or someone who is militant about staying smart to keep a routine in place, clothing has played an unexpectedly important role in the way we approach our working weeks. As someone who loves to dress up for work, my approach has been to try and put on something that I feel good in every day, even if it’s just a super-simple ensemble. My general approach has been comfy minimalism with the odd splash of colour or playful detailing. This has meant I have rarely worn jeans (too constricting) and have enjoyed digging out some previously neglected dresses, alongside embracing neutral separates and championing the throw-on appeal of the jumpsuit. Of course, the only person seeing these outfits is my husband—well, and now you—but I have found that fashion is a small yet significant way to be creative and lift my mood each morning. For you, that might be cooking or exercise, crafts or puzzles—you just gotta find what keeps you going. So if you’re interested, I’ve detailed the seven outfits that have brought a bit of fun to my working week. Scroll down to see what I chose. Style Notes: I nabbed this Avavav mini in its online sample sale (it’s so good—check it out here), and thanks to its light fabric, it’s such a good option for a warm day. I just add my Topshop sandals for a pop of colour. Style Notes: This has got to be one of my favourite jumpsuits.
