This 6-move butt workout will give you a perkier peach in 5 minutes flat

June 05, 2019 at 11:29AM by CWC This morning, my butt and I experienced our first ever “chair Pilates” class at Chaise Fitness in New York City. And six hours later, I we are already sore. And when I checked myself out in the mirror after class, I swear that the derriere of mine looked perkier than it was when I walked in. Despite the fact that the Chaise class took place on a very fancy and effective piece of equipment (that looked and felt vaguely like a torture device), master trainer Lauren Pascone let me know that you can recreate the same type of booty-boosting workout at home on your own—all you need is a small medicine ball and some serious dedication (because, yes: it is that hard). Here, she shares her “butt blasting” workout, which targets your glutes, hamstrings, and lower abdominals, which will all amp up your ass in five minutes flat. It definitely did it to mine. Cycle through each move on the right, hold a quick child’s pose stretch, and then repeat on the left. Start kneeling on all fours with knees separated about a fist distance apart, shoulders aligned over wrists. If you need to modify, come down onto your forearms. Toe taps: Extend your right leg long behind you with a flexed foot and your leg straight. Lift your leg up until your heel is in line with your hip, then lower the leg back down and tap your toe on the ground. Repeat

Launching inclusive products every month is something companies like Tinder could really take pride in

June 05, 2019 at 10:37AM by CWC It’s Pride Month, but with all the brands launching limited-edition rainbow products and campaigns featuring vague “love is love” messaging, I’m not sure how you wouldn’t know that already. And like the true, queer introvert I am, I plan to celebrate by swiping through the eligible queer cuties in town for Pride from the comfort of my couch. Just in time for my swipe-athon, Tinder, in partnership with GLAAD, just rolled out a feature called “Orientation” that allows users to select from nine sexual-orientation markers: straight, gay, lesbian bisexual, demisexual, pansexual, queer, asexual, and questioning. And since sexuality is nuanced (which is not a new thing, yet still news to some), folks can choose up to three orientations on that list. This is a huge improvement from the platform’s previous “interested in” options, which were limited to men, women, or both. The noteworthy and thoughtful feature allow you to opt to have your orientation(s) appear in your bio or kept private, which helps keep users who are worried about being outed and/or who simply want to explore/experiment swipe more safely. And, you can choose to see people who share your orientation preferences, which may be appealing. For new Tinderers, choosing your sexual orientation is now part of the onboarding experience, whereas previously, “straight” was the assumed sexuality, so only non-hetero users were tasked with going into the back end and fiddling with their preferences. (Other datings apps would be wise to take note

This Pilates floor workout is so effective, it rivals intense Megaformer classes

June 05, 2019 at 09:43AM by CWC Over the past few months, I have fallen completely in love with Megaformer Pilates. I love the way my muscles feel when they start to twitch during a particularly grueling static lunge or plank hold, and I can say with full confidence that my core has never, ever felt stronger. Plus, I’m not going to lie—after three months of thrice weekly SLT classes (with a few sessions at BodyRok, SolidCore, and New York Pilates thrown in there for good measure), I can’t stop staring at my newly perky derrière any time I walk by a reflective surface. It makes me wonder…is there a way to recreate the intensity of these workouts at home? When I ask SLT founder and CEO Amanda Freeman if I could get the same full-body burn on the floor as I could in the studio, the answer is…kind of. “There are floor versions of many of our favorite SLT Megaformer moves, however they won’t feel quite the same off the machine,” she says. “They will still be challenging and effective, but the range of motion could be more limited and the smoothness of the movement will be lacking, but you will still get an amazing abs, oblique, glute, leg, and arm workout. “ The reason a Megaformer workout is so effective is because the moving carriage creates instability, which forces your muscles to engage and work harder during every move. According to Freeman, the best cheats for simulating this

Ditch your foundation this summer with these skin-smoothing tinted SPF moisturizers

June 05, 2019 at 09:33AM by CWC Hot take: Wearing foundation in the summer can be a tall order. Sweat and heavy makeup don’t exactly play well together, and who wants to spend time layering on a full beat only to sweat it off an hour later? That’s exactly why I’m currently obsessed with tinted sunscreens—they’re lightweight, and they fuse your moisturizer, SPF, and skin care all into one perfect product. Heather Woolery-Lloyd, MD, a Miami-based dermatologist, says tinted sunscreens are a great addition to your makeup bag, as they give you great sun protection minus the white tint of some sunscreens. “Most tinted SPF products are physical blockers, which means they either have zinc or titanium dioxide,” she says. “The reason why they’re tinted is because zinc and titanium give a white or gray hue on the skin, so one of the ways to mask that is to add a tint so it’s almost like your skin color. And you’re turning it almost into like a lightweight makeup so [that] you don’t see the gray discoloration.” When you’re rocking a tinted SPF on your skin, it can lead to seriously covetable radiance—especially if you follow some pro tips. Merrady Wickes, makeup artist and head of content and education at clean beauty boutique The Detox Market, notes that mineral sunscreens can sometimes be drying, so she recommends applying them over a face oil or balm while it’s still dewy. Pro tip: For perfectly even coverage, Wickes says to pat, never rub. While
