6 Styling Tricks That Feel Really New for Spring

April 24, 2020 at 06:33AM From Paris to Milan, New York to London, each season, designers use the ready-to-wear runway shows as a means to display the new clothing and accessories that their brands have to offer. And although we revel in the chance to view the new collections, here at Who What Wear UK, we take fashion week as an opportunity to observe more than just new clothes.  Each season, runway shows provide a myriad of styling and outfit inspiration, as brands find unique and distinctive ways to display their debuting items. Whether it be styling a cardigan as a base layer or a silk scarf as a statement belt, each runway show often brings with it an interesting new way to style a piece of clothing that we’ve never thought of before.  Of course, the S/S 20 runway shows were no exception. From Louis Vuitton pairing a sweater vest over an exaggerated puff sleeve shirt to Khaite’s styling of straight-leg jeans underneath a minidress, the ready-to-wear collections provided a plethora of outfit ideas that we can’t wait to try.  And the best part? Many of the styling tricks seen on the runway can be re-created using the staples you already have in your wardrobe. If you own a roll-neck jumper and a button-up shirt, you can easily emulate the styling from Victoria Beckham’s show, while a cropped cardi and waist belt can let you live out your dream of being a Chanel model. It really is that simple.  Keep scrolling for all the styling tricks we’re

The Best Minimalist Dresses From COS, & Other Stories, Arket and More

April 24, 2020 at 06:13AM I remember flicking through fashion magazines as a teenager and becoming convinced that the only acceptable way to navigate summer as a stylish woman was to become this vision of bohemianism—floor-grazing linen dresses, suede fringing, peasant blouses and gladiator sandals were the It pieces at the time. One would drift from music festival to music festival, all the while keeping those cream espadrilles in pristine condition. I blame Sienna Miller. It took me far longer than I’d care to admit to realise that, in fact, this is not a style persona that works for me (no matter how many peasant skirts I buy). I just like tailoring too much. However, it was when I ventured into a COS store that everything clicked into place. While I’ll never be a complete fashion purist, there was something about the brand’s simplicity and clean-lined minimalism that made everything feel so chic. As luck would have it, the last 12 months has seen minimalistic style continue its upwards trajectory, with influencers foregoing the look-at-me extraversion that proliferated in 2018, and instead opting for unprinted shirt dresses, simple slips and voluminous smocks. So many brands, from & Other Stories to Arket, are embracing the “less is more” approach, and this is great news for people like me who can’t quite get on board with boho. If this rings true for you too, scroll down to see and shop my minimalistic dress edit and see how influencers are wearing theirs. Style Notes: Smock dresses are a fab option for minimalist-style lovers. Make like Alexis Foreman

Unexpected Outfits Ideas That Are Already In Your Wardrobe

April 24, 2020 at 06:07AM Here at Who What Wear, we firmly believe in the power of timeless clothing, or at the very least clothing you love so much you’re willing to wear it over and over and over again.  While the temptation to shop right now is high, each season I set myself the challenge of finding new ways to wear the existing pieces in my wardrobe, in an effort to achieve that ‘new clothes’ feeling without having to spend a thing. Whether it’s dressing down a fancy item, or dressing up your more casualwear, our closet are actually filled with an endless combination of looks, if only we’re willing to experiment a little.  With this in mind, I set out to find a few new outfit combinations I’d like to try and copy this season using items I already own. And as usual, the fashion set did not disappoint. From Frann Fyne’s trick to making a maxi skirt day-time appropriate to Erica Choi’s new take on styling a wrap dress, Instagram is a treasure trove of innovative outfit inspiration.  Keep scrolling for five unexpected outfit combinations I’ll be trying this spring, using items that are already in my wardrobe.  Style Notes: While typically considered quite formal, Frann Fyne adds a casual element to her maxi skirt by pairing it alongside sneakers and a knit jumper.  Style Notes: Make use of your slip skirts during this transitional weather by pairing them with tank tops and button-down shirts, as Rachael Clifton of Bubbly Aquarius does here.

We’ve Found Summer’s Answer to Comfy Joggers

April 24, 2020 at 06:00AM No items divide people quite like shorts, as many people have the item on their ultimate no-no list and prefer to wear skirts and dresses in summer. I myself am not really a shorts person. I have always struggled to find the right length and only tend to wear them on holiday. Fashion buyers have been anticipating that shorts are going to become more popular this season thanks to the prominence of Bermuda shorts on the runways. However, with the unprecedented shifts to our lifestyles, there is a new demand for a different kind of shorts—runners in tracksuit fabrics. For when it gets too hot to wear loungewear, one of the most comfortable items you can wear for summer at home is a pair of shorts in either linen, sweatshirt or jersey fabrics. If you want a pair of basic shorts to act in place of jogging bottoms, I’d recommend you head to Weekday or Topshop. For something a little jazzier, I’m quite taken with Ganni’s leopard and floral prints.  Keep scrolling to see how to style these throw-on shorts and our edit of favourites below. These are proving popular already.  If lemon isn’t for you, they come in lots more colours.  Arket’s linen is really beautiful.  Trust Ganni to make the jazziest shorts going.  Pair with a sweatshirt for a summery spin on loungewear. The longer length will appeal to many.  A smarter take on sporty shorts.  Weekday is another favourite for casual shorts.  Tie-dye is so popular

6 Jewelry Trends Every Fashion Insider Will Wear in 2020

April 24, 2020 at 06:00AM Ready for a brand-new set of jewelry trends to work into your wardrobe? Same. The S/S 20 shows have come to a close, but I can’t stop thinking about the new jewelry pieces that were styled on the runways. Many of them are destined to be huge this year, and there are some major trends that will be bubbling up during 2020. From the new take on hoop earrings spotted at Proenza Schouler and Versace to the metal Brandon Maxwell and Gucci embraced that is set to be everywhere to the statement necklace trend we saw at Bottega Veneta and Chanel, these are the six biggest spring jewelry trends, period. Want to be an early adopter? Go on to see and shop our edit of pieces to start wearing right now. Hoops aren’t a new trend, but for spring they have been supersized. The new XXL proportions were paired with everything from power suiting to LBDs and are intended to go with just about anything. Statement-jewelry lovers, here’s another one for you. Chain-link necklaces were also spotted on the runways in pumped-up sizes, whether paired with open-front silhouettes or layered over crew-necks. We’ve been predicting the rise of silver jewelry, and the runways are providing even more evidence that the metal will be gaining traction in the coming months. Instead of matching earrings, designers sent models down the runways with just one. At Prabal Gurung and JW Anderson, we saw crystal styles that cascaded past the shoulder, and at Valentino, there were ornate gold versions. Pearls have been a popular trend for several

I’m Obsessed With These 5 Revolve Brands—Here’s What I’m Buying From Each

April 24, 2020 at 06:00AM Revolve is a one-stop shop for most fashion lovers of the world, but if you don’t know what you’re doing or what you’re looking for, it can be quite overwhelming. That’s where I come in. As someone who has been shopping at (and working with) Revolve for quite some time, I can confidently say I know a thing or two about the best ways to navigate the plethora of products available. My biggest strategy? Shop by brand, not by category. Yes, Revolve stocks some of the biggest name brands in the industry, but it’s the in-house brands that I am drawn to the most when I head to the site. Ahead, I’m going to highlight five of the best Revolve brands (in my humble opinion), shop out the pieces I’m eyeing from each, and explain what it is I love so much about them. Whether you head to Revolve for party pieces, cute summer dresses, or statement trousers, the selection of goods ahead will have your online shopping carts fuller than they’ve been in a while. L’Academie has everything from the trends you’re looking for to the wardrobe staples you’ve been looking to invest in. In my opinion, it’s the most “grown-up” of all the in-house Revolve brands, and this green suit ahead proves exactly that.  Majorelle is a special one to me, as the founder, Rachel Zeilic, is also a member of our Who What Wear team. The pieces are dreamy, easy to wear,

I Haven’t Worn a Bra in Years—Here’s What I Wear Instead

April 24, 2020 at 06:00AM When I turned 13 (and finally started to go through puberty), all I wanted was to start wearing a bra. By the time I was 14, all I wanted was to stop wearing a bra. I had quickly learned what most of us already know—that bras are typically uncomfortable, rigid, and cut into your under-boob area. The most relieving part of my day was when I finally got home and could peel off my bra. So I soon decided to stop wearing bras altogether. That brought challenges, however, as I wasn’t yet entirely comfortable with the idea of going braless. So I decided to dip my toes in the water by rotating through several bra alternatives—all of which were certainly more comfortable than my go-to underwire bra. If you, too, want to forgo bras without totally abandoning the support and shape they offer, keep scrolling to find some excellent bra alternatives that have kept my ladies (and me) happy throughout the years. This is just as comfortable as wearing a thin shirt, but the secret is that you’re wearing a shirt under a shirt, thereby keeping your breasts supported and cradled in a comfortable, stretchy, wire-free material. In the late ’00s, I’d wear a bandeau over my bra in some sort of peculiar fashion statement of the time—I’m pretty certain we all went through that phase in middle school. These days, however, I’ve dropped the bra and just wear the bandeau any time going strapless is appropriate.

All the Cringy 2000s Outfits We’re Trying to Re-Create Today

April 24, 2020 at 05:05AM Fashion in the early 2000s was weird. There, I said it. From what I personally remember as a try-hard 7-year-old, I was obsessed with capris and tube tops, tiny knock-off Louis Vuitton shoulder bags (sorry, but my mom wouldn’t buy me a real one), and any sort of flip flop style imaginable. With that said, the women featured ahead were my icons at one point in time (Britney Spears still is but that’s a conversation for another day), so when I say these outfits make me cringe, it’s not because of them—it’s because of me. At some point during the early 2000s, I tried to dress exactly like all of my celebrity icons—Lauren Conrad, Mischa Barton, and so on and so forth. What they wore was it back then and recently, while I was craving a bit of nostalgia, I realized that it’s not just the ’90s that have made a major comeback, it’s the 2000s as well. From tie-dye to low-rise jeans, the eight celebrity outfits from the decade everyone loves to hate are bound to have you cringing and smiling and shopping all at once. And the craziest part is, once you see the outfits ahead re-created, you’ll realize you have probably one more or more of them in the past six months or so. You’ll see. Pictured: Rihanna, 2005. Low-rise jeans are back, whether you like it or not, and this summer the coolest way to wear them is with anything and

I’m Losing It Over These 56 Items That Look Way More Expensive Than $16

April 24, 2020 at 05:00AM We love an affordable roundup at Who What Wear. Usually, that means we’re finding “cheap thrills” under a price point around $100, but given the current situation, we’re taking it a step further to truly scour the internet for finds that are even more affordable. That means roundups of things like 29 items under $20, and this sweet little story you’ve landed on where there’s not a pick over $15. This catalog of 56 products is conveniently split into categories including basics, trendy pieces, accessories a-plenty (including a couple of saucy picks!), swimwear, and homewares. I may be partial, given I labored over the edit for many hours, but I’ve found a particular delight in being able to scroll freely in this story knowing that any slide that caught my eye wouldn’t be an out-of-the-question splurge. I know many are not spending at all on non-essential items, but you can always bookmark some picks for later or simply take pleasure in a little window shopping. Enjoy! If there’s one basic to buy right now, the racer-front tank is it. I couldn’t help but include three in this roundup. This very similar style from ASOS is even cheaper but has fewer sizes available, and this $11 racer-front tank available at Nordstrom is a great option too. I’m feeling the subtle bust highlight the ribbing provides. Gym class is in session, and I’m ready for it. The plain white muscle tank is beloved by many a fashion girl. Time to get

The $10 Accessories I’m Wearing for All My Virtual Hangouts

April 24, 2020 at 05:00AM From FaceTime to Zoom, WhatsApp to Skype, there’s no question I’ve spent more time on video calls in the past month than ever before, staying connected with my fellow colleagues, my family, and my friends as we navigate our way through the current pandemic climate. The one thing I’ve quickly realized about seeing myself enlarged on a video chat is that my lusterless looks could really do with a little livening up—especially from the chest up. So for the past few weeks, I’ve made a point of amping up my top-half with the power of some chic accessories that don’t cost a fortune. (My bottom half is still reserved for cozy and comfortable sweatpants, pajamas, and shorts—or lack thereof sometimes). There’s no question I feel more productive and confident when I bring my sartorial A-game to the table, so below, I’m sharing some of the cool and affordable accessories I’m wearing for all my virtual hangouts—all of which clock in around a very favorable $10. Headbands are one of the easiest (and affordable) ways to add a cute touch to your look. While I do own several black headbands, I find a bold color adds a much more cheerful impact. Finish the look with a swipe of red lipstick because nothing brightens up a complexion quite like it. My hair looks anything but coiffed these days. Mostly because my bangs are in that seriously awkward in-between length (too long to wear over my eyes, too
