How to Give Yourself the Ultimate At-Home Pedicure
April 30, 2020 at 06:30AM If there is one thing that I have learned about myself during this period of social distancing, it’s that I really don’t take enough care of myself. As a beauty editor, this can be a hard thing to admit. You see, I do actually dedicate an hour every evening to a rather luxurious bathing session and my twice-daily skincare routine is actually quite lengthy and excessive, but when it comes to just about anything else, I’m useless. Sadly, unless I have an appointment booked to remind me, everything from my brows to my nails gets totally neglected. One area in particular that I have found myself turning a blind eye to recently is my feet. Sure, I give them a good slathering of foot cream after my nightly bath and keep my nails in check as best as I can, but am I really giving them the time and love they need? Absolutely not. Usually, at this stage, I’d book myself in for a thorough pedicure, however with salons closed, I have had to take matters into my own hands. In a bid to get my tootsies ready for summer, I reached out to my all-round nail guru (and celebrity nail artist) Jenni Draper to take me through, step by step, how to carry out the perfect at-home pedicure. This is the part of a DIY pedi that I am always keen to forgo due to its fuss and length. The truth is though, prepping the skin on your feet is
How French Women Are Dressing for Their Living Rooms in Lockdown
April 30, 2020 at 06:17AM French women have a reputation for being inimitably stylish. After all, why else would their clothing choices, beauty routines and haircare secrets be analysed and emulated the world over? With the new normal resulting in us all staying home more than ever before, our daily clothing choices have inevitably changed. Workwear has been replaced with loungewear, and in many instances, boots and heels have surrendered their top spots as most popular footwear, making way for flats, slides and even bare feet. Right now, many of us are looking for a little inspiration on how to still get dressed properly while staying at home, and given their sought-after style, we thought why not turn to a few French women for some advice? We asked seven stylish Parisian women exactly what they are wearing at home, and as you can imagine, there isn’t a legging in sight. From airy kaftans and flattering wrap dresses to wide-leg trousers and silk shirts, these women prove that comfort is certainly key when remaining indoors, but that does not mean you have to sacrifice on style. From designers, stylists and influencers, keep scrolling see the outfits French women are wearing at home. “I am wearing Nanushka wool pants, which are very comfortable and chic at the same time. The top is Nanushka as well, but I usually wear a sweater over it. I have bare feet all the time.” “Since the lockdown, I like to go for outfits that are easy to throw on, comfortable and
The 2-Piece Outfit Combo That Will See You Through Summer
April 30, 2020 at 06:09AM Here at Who What Wear, we spend a lot of our time thinking about, researching and analysing outfit combinations. With one click of a search bar we can offer you four different ways to wear leggings, six ways to style a midi skirt, 11 outfit hacks to make you look cooler and so, so, many more. Though while countless outfit pairings, combinations and styles do of course exist, sometimes it is the most simple options that stand the test of time. Enter, the humble shirt and shorts combo, an absolutely timeless pairing that will see you through summer. Often comprised of some combination of linen fabric and cotton materials, a button-down shirt and pair of tailored or loose shorts is a foolproof outfit we come back to year after year. Evidently, we are not the only ones, as many influencers agree, with several having posted examples of the outfit combination already this year. From Lucy Williams to Brittany Bathgate, it’s clear that button-down shirts and shorts are maintaining their status as a simple go-to outfit for days spent at home or out and about. Interestingly enough, when it comes to the outfit, many influencers seem to be investing in basic shades of beige, white, tan and pale blue, further solidifying the look’s timelessness. 7 Influencers Who Have Perfected the Art of the Fashion Uniform
April 30, 2020 at 06:00AM How to ‘discover your personal style’ is one of those illusive #lifegoals that has been pondered by fashion magazines for decades and, undoubtedly, baffled women for an similar period of time. The way it’s phrased somehow infers that this is something that should spontaneously pop into your mind’s eye after you’ve put in the required number of hours staring blankly at your open wardrobe. The reality, however, is not quite so transactional, and some people will pin-down their ‘look’ at the age of 16, while others need a longer period of experiment to refine their taste. To be honest, there’s also nothing stopping you from constantly reinventing your style every 5 years—this is not, after all, some sort of life-long binding contract. Yet, I also can’t deny that there is something so alluring about the idea of finding your ‘uniform‘— if nothing else so you can sneak in a couple more hours in bed in the morning due to having a good sense of what works. I also think that as we move into a more sustainable future, there’s something to be said for investing in pieces that are timeless—and by that I mean styles that you’ll want to wear both now and in 5 years’ time. And no, that doesn’t have to mean becoming an austere minimalist (although that certainly makes things easier). There are plenty of print-loving editors who have stuck to their extroverted staples for decades. It was Brittany Bathgate who triggered these contemplations on personal style. I was scrolling deep into her feed (for writing, not stalking purposes), and was impressed at how her outfits felt so consistent
Normal People: After Cancelling Summer Plans, I’m Living Through Marianne’s Vacation Style
April 30, 2020 at 03:15AM There are pieces of Hulu’s Normal People that will stick with you long after the show ends: Marianne and Connell’s tumultuous love story, of course, but also the romantic soundtrack, the picturesque setting, and yes, the style. As someone who recently cancelled summer plans abroad, my eyes zeroed in on every piece of Marianne’s wardrobe during her holiday in Italy. When Connell reunites with Marianne (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones) over their summer break, she’s wearing a simple gingham shift dress with a floral design. Light, airy dresses, denim skirts, and sleeveless tops aren’t earth-shattering fashion choices, but as I spend multiple days in the same sweatshirts and leggings, I feel nostalgic for the joy of packing a bag with carefully chosen items. Obviously, there are more pressing issues right now than the Madewell dress I ordered in February, but I allowed myself a little bit of envy (and a lot of aspiration) when I saw Marianne at her Trieste home for the first time. My summer may not look like Marianne’s but damn my wardrobe still can. Marianne’s easy and carefree summer style – courtesy of costume designer Lorna Marie Mugan – reminds me of the things I can control as my own plans get upended. I don’t need a getaway to wear my favorite linen dress. I can easily make excuses to trade my sneakers for sandals on my walks around the neighborhood. My suitcase may remain empty for the foreseeable future, but I
These Leather Loafers Are Comfy Enough to Wear in the House (Plus, They’re on Sale!)
April 30, 2020 at 02:05AM When it comes to shoe trends that offer sharp style and tons of comfort, it’s hard to beat driving shoes. The shoes have recognizable rubber grommet-like soles that were originally designed to offer more grip while driving, but these easygoing slip-ons have a more practical purpose in our daily lives – they look like a slipper but are meant to be worn outside. If that doesn’t sound like just the thing to go with our loungewear vibes, we don’t know what does! Old Navy just introduced a driving-inspired slip-on shoe in four colors, and we might have to get all of them! The Hadid Sisters Did a Farm Photoshoot, and We’re Obsessed With Gigi’s Cowgirl Boots
April 30, 2020 at 01:30AM View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gigi Hadid (@gigihadid) on Apr 29, 2020 at 1:26pm PDT Like the rest of the world, Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid are following social distancing protocols, but that doesn’t mean they can’t show off their fashionable staying home outfits. As part of Vogue‘s Postcards From Home series in the magazine’s June/July issue, Gigi and Bella shared a few photos of themselves on their family farm in Pennsylvania, and their outfits definitely stand out against the serene background. “We are sending love and strength to everyone, especially those who are suffering and the people on the frontlines.” Gigi, who is reportedly pregnant with her first child, wore a maroon and navy varsity jacket layered over a white denim jacket and a pair of loose-fitting work jeans. She paired the look with a chunky oversized beanie, a belt, and matching cowgirl boots. Bella opted for tan cargo pants stuffed into forest green rain boots and paired with an unbuttoned white dress shirt. Rather than completing their outfits with traditional runway accessories, the sisters turned water buckets into oversized handbags and even posed with a live cow. The tractor in the background adds an extra rustic touch. “Being isolated has been hard for me,” Bella said. “Recently, I made a conscious effort to wake up in the morning and say my mantras to get myself into a happier state of mind.” Bella went on to say that she has
