July 07, 2019 at 10:31AM by CWC Real talk: Seeing team USA win the 2019 Women’s World Cup was the biggest leg-day inspiration of all time. There’s nothing like watching a group of badass females break a world record (they scored a casual 26 goals over the course of the tournament) to make you think “hmm, maybe those squats are worth it after all.” Ready to hone your skills and feel strong enough to rival Alex Morgan? This workout has got you covered. Here, Gold’s Gym Certified Personal Trainer and GOLD’S AMP Coach Ally McKinney, shares her favorite leg moves that will turn you into a soccer superstar—or at least, leave your lower body on fire for two full days after you leave the gym. Bring your feet shoulder width apart with your feet slightly turned out, and squeeze your glutes while bracing your core. As you bend your knees, drop your hips toward your heels and keep your chest up—try to get so low so that your

7 midi skirt and sneaker pairings that’ll bring the comfy-cool vibes all summer long
July 06, 2019 at 08:00AM by CWC No matter where your summer vacation plans take you—London, Barcelona, or even just the next zip code over—bringing a midi skirt and sneakers will pretty much guarantee that you’ll be able to pass for a local. This look’s been gaining steam for the last few years, but it’s officially everywhere this season… as anyone who’s walked down the street lately can attest. If nothing else, you’ve definitely seen some Instagrammer wearing a leopard-print skirt and Vans lately, right? I’ll admit, I wasn’t a fan of this pairing at the beginning, since I felt like it looked a little frumpy on me. But I’ve grown fond of it in recent months for the comfort factor alone. The sneakers part needs no explanation, and mid-calf-length skirts are arguably the coziest skirt length—you’re not tripping over the hemline, as is often the case with a maxi skirt, nor are you constantly tugging it down, which tends to happen with a mini. ad_intervals[‘402668_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘402668_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); And from a fashion perspective, there’s a lot to love about summer’s hottest sartorial coupling. “The combination of sneakers and a midi skirt balances the masculine and feminine, and balance is an extremely important part of styling,” says Nicole Pollard, Los Angeles-based personal stylist and founder of Lalaluxe. “It’s classic without being boring, so it works for any age. Plus, there’s beauty in comfort. When you feel comfortable you stand taller, move
How a dietitian chooses a healthy meal when dinner apathy strikes
July 06, 2019 at 06:00AM by CWC I’m about to invoke the power of anaphora to tell you the things I strongly believe about food. I believe that raisins should just be canceled from trail mix. I believe the yellow Starbursts are objectively the best. And, if I don’t know what to cook myself for dinner, I believe in grabbing a bag of popcorn and calling it a night. The first two preferences incense people I share them with. But describing the dinner apathy that sometimes plagues me after returning home from work usually earns nods of agreement. The question, “What am I hungry for?” is one we’ve all asked ourselves while peering at the contents of our refrigerator. “First things first, remember, you are not alone,” says Tracy Lockwood Beckerman, RD, host of Well+Good’s YouTube series You Versus Food. “The majority of people don’t meal prep, so chances are you don’t know what will end up on your plate for dinner. While the meal prep technique works for some, it doesn’t always work for others…and that’s okay!” And even if your meal prep skills could knock Bobby Flay off his high horse, the turkey meatball, roasted broccoli combo dreamed up on Sunday might seem less delish come Thursday. So when dinner leaves you with questions yourself, Beckerman says to get real. ad_intervals[‘403640_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘403640_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’);}); } }, 100); Rather than thinking about dinner in terms of what you “should” eat, she recommends sitting
This 10-minute, at-home leg workout will make you want to cancel your gym membership
July 05, 2019 at 01:32AM by CWC Wanna burn out that lower body? Try this 10-minute leg workout from Charlee Atkins, here. It’s easy to focus on your ab, arm, and—of course—your butt workouts, since it feels like you’re hitting your legs naturally by, ya know, going places. But your lower body could use some special love and dedicated workouts, too. After all, your legs are the ones that are going to walk you to that beach this summer—and to get another glass of rosé—right? And so, we had Le Sweat creator Charlee Atkins share her go-to lower body workout. It may only take 10 minutes, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s easy. By the end, even Atkins is sweatin’. Check out the video below, and test it out for yourself—all you need is a set of dumbbells… and some serious leg strength. ad_intervals[‘405819_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘405819_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’);}); } }, 100); Warmup Do each move for 30 seconds for a total of four minutes Hip circles (right): On your hands and knees (or “quadruped position”) with both hands planted firmly beneath your shoulders, raise your right leg into the air and draw circles with your knee. Keep your back straight, as if you were holding a yoga block on top. Hip circles (left): Repeat the same exact move on your left for 30 seconds. Basic bodyweight squat: Plant your feet slightly farther apart than your hips with your toes pointing out, and squat by
We asked 7 women from a 30D to a 38DDD what bathing suits they’d be wearing this weekend
July 03, 2019 at 08:00AM by CWC I sit here writing this story from a coffee shop very close to the beach, but not actually at the beach because a) I am on the clock and b) I can’t imagine the glare from the sun would lend itself to a productive writing session. Or maybe it would, but I would be typing the words from my brain but they would come out as like, misspelled gibberish. So while I am cooped up across the street from the Pacific, staring wistfully out the window like I’m waiting for Ryan Gosling to appear, dreaming of being on the beach and drinking rose, I decided to poll a variety of people to see what swimsuits they’re planning to wear this weekend. You know, for inspo. And work. Definitely for work, not because I want to shop for bathing suits. The poll-ees graciously answered my query, serving up a variety of suits at a variety of price points recommended by a variety of bust sizes. I don’t know if you got this, but there are a variety of options to choose from. (What’s a thesaurus?) It’s a veritable smorgasbord of swimsuit options. Most of us are crunching incorrectly, and that isn’t great for our necks and back
July 03, 2019 at 07:57AM by CWC [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t4t3IpiEao] Get ready to work those abs: Watch how to do crunches, the right way, here. Much like the New Kids on the Block are the OG boy band (sorry to my fave, ‘NSYNC), crunches are the OGs of the ab workout world. They’ve been around since, like, the dawn of fitness time, and as such, there have been eons for people to learn how to mess up the move. So while there’s more than one right way to do a crunch, there are plenty of wrong ways, too. Star trainer Charlee Atkins, founder of Le Sweat and Le Stretch, has seen them all. “The wrong way is when your neck is crunched in, your lower back is off of the mat, and your elbows are in,” she tells Well+Good in our video series, The Right Way, which demonstrates the correct form on all sorts of exercise moves. If your neck is crunching in as you crunch up, you’ll be straining your neck and upper spine, which can lead to pain later on. Your lower back shouldn’t lift up, because then you won’t be working your core as you should be, and if your elbows are in, you’ll be pulling your head up rather than using your abs to crunch. ad_intervals[‘405864_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘405864_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’);}); } }, 100); So here’s what you’re supposed to do. The 7 best foundations under $15 that you can score at the drugstore
July 02, 2019 at 03:00PM by CWC I’ve always been really grateful for the beauty selection at drugstores. There have been way too many instances in my life in which I’ve had to dart directly into the nearest CVS or Duane Reade or whatever to grab an emergency concealer/mascara/lip balm/brow gel… the list goes on. Because you just never know when an impromptu monster zit will decide to show up, or you lose your chapstick and are suddenly empty handed yet in need of something from the shelves immediately. In terms of foundation, I’ve actually been really impressed by the vast array of solid finds that are lurking in the drugstore aisle. A lot of people shy away from getting decent cover-up at a place where you can’t try things on or swatch the color out, but we’ve tapped makeup artists for how to get around that (hint: natural lighting and the inside of your wrist!). First off, many drugstore cosmetics brands have expanded their shade ranges (it’s the Fenty effect, y’all) to match a broader range of skin tones. Which is absolutely key. Then there’s the fact that you can get so many amazing drugstore foundations for less than, like, two days’ worth of oat milk lattes. Behold, our fave drugstore foundations that don’t cost over 15 bucks. ad_intervals[‘403306_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘403306_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Photo: L’Oreal L’Oreal Paris Infallible Matte Foundation, $8 This foundation is almost like a CC cream—it’s got a
9 slider exercises that will leave every muscle in your body quaking
July 02, 2019 at 09:03AM by CWC Heading to the gym and checking into boutique fitness classes is fun and all, but what if you could get a killer workout without leaving your living room? With sliders…you can. The small, hand-sized circular discs are beloved by personal trainers and fitness instructors alike thanks to the way they can drastically improve balance and core strength. They work because when you place your hands or feet on them, your body is forced into a state of instability that forces all of your muscles to stand at attention. Intrigued? Below you’ll find a 9-move circuit that, when cycled through three times, will help you slide and glide your way to a killer workout. To perform the exercises, you’ll need a set of sliders or you can get creative with a couple of towels or paper plates. Remember, it’s totally cool to take a minute or two between rounds. 9 slider moves to try in your next workout 1. Reverse lunge: Achieve peach perfection with this booty and leg sculpter. “Stand with feet hip-width apart with a slider under your right foot,” instructs co-founder of Tone It Up Katrina Scott. “Slide your right foot directly behind you and sink into a lunge position, knees bent at 90 degrees, with your back knee hovering just above the ground. Engage your core and booty as you come back up to start position, driving through your standing heel. Do 12 reps on each side.” ad_intervals[‘402203_div-gpt-ad-9261280-3’] = setInterval(function
How I (finally) got myself to stay hydrated, even though I hate drinking water
July 01, 2019 at 06:30PM by CWC As a self-proclaimed water snob, staying hydrated is like a waterlogged version of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” Tap water has a hint of something. Bottled water is a mixed bag. Pretty much the only type of water I will drink is whatever’s handy when I’m absolutely parched, like after a hot yoga flow. Being so plain-water averse (for real, even with a migraine I avoid the stuff) has not exactly set me up for success on the wellness front. “Every cell in your body needs water to function,” Chelsea Amer, MS, RDN says. Hydration addresses a long list of problems, from the inside (like digestion) to the outside (take a sip every time someone says their skin-care secret is drinking water). “Even being a little dehydrated can impact your energy levels during the day,” Amer says. That explains why I often feel extra moody, tired, and achey—basically the human version of a plant I forgot to water. ad_intervals[‘402287_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘402287_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’);}); } }, 100); Amer says the amount of water you need a day varies based on factors like weight, activity level, diet, and even climate, but it’s recommended women shoot for around 11 cups. I was nowhere near that, so I set out to change my ways for a healthier pep in my step. From adding True Lemon Fruit Infusions™ into my hydration routine to stocking up on water-rich foods, here’s what I’m doing to stay hydrated
8 eco-friendly clothing brands to give your wardrobe a totally chic (and sustainable) makeover
July 01, 2019 at 05:00PM by CWC Often when people decide to start living a more eco-conscious life, the first step is ditching plastic straws or investing in reusable totes for the grocery store. Now don’t get me wrong—both of those changes are doing good for the planet, but if you want to make an even bigger impact, it might be time to rethink the way you shop for clothes. Fortunately, eco-friendly clothing brands have come a long way in terms of sustainability and style. It’s no secret that the fashion industry is responsible for vast environmental damage, contributing 10 percent of global carbon emissions. According to Sustain Your Style, it’s the largest polluter in the entire world after the oil industry. Far from eco-friendly, the fashion industry produces untreated toxic wastewater that dumps into rivers and oceans, harming aquatic life and humans alike. It also uses 1.5 trillion liters of water every year, is releasing microfibers into the water that eventually end up in your food. Synthetic fibers take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills. ad_intervals[‘403896_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘403896_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); To ensure your wardrobe isn’t hurting the planet, start shopping sustainably. There’s an ever-growing list of companies that have made it their mission to create eco friendly clothing with responsible materials and sustainable practices throughout the entire process, from using solar-powered factories to compostable shipping materials. These are the best brands to find eco-friendly clothing with fashion-forward design. 8 eco-friendly
