I found the best way to make full-body Tabata workouts go by in a flash

July 20, 2019 at 04:00AM by CWC You know that meme that’s like, “I only have 20 minutes left, which is just 10 minutes twice, which is just five minutes four times”? Yeah, I relate to that majorly. As I’m sure we all do. Even though working out is great and fun, we still want it to end ASAP. That’s why sometimes I like to do 5-minute strength training exercises or sprint intervals in order to get out of the gym as quickly as possible (while still managing to get my sweat on and my heart rate spiked). One of my fave ways to pack a punch in little time? Tabata. The HIIT workout method is all about working hard for four minutes in segments of 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off. My only issue is that it’s hard to do this on my own in the gym when I’m trying to simultaneously listen to Drake and count down my time intervals. Until now, though: I just discovered a jackpot of an app that helps you seamlessly do both—listen to music while timing your reps—in one place. It’s called Tabata Songs, and it costs just 99 cents to get the music player app that’s filled with songs that are specifically timed for Tabata workouts. There’s an audio coach that cues you to stop and go, and your music can be everything from rap, funk, pop, rock—whatever you like. It also displays the countdown clock on your screen so you know when those burpees are

How to remove eyelash extensions without causing lash loss

July 18, 2019 at 11:09AM by CWC When it comes to my lashes, I’m a more-is-more kinda gal. I hoard all of the volumizing mascara, clip on the falsies for extra drama on weekends, and have been known to get a lash tint once in a blue. That’s all to say that it’s pretty shocking that I’ve yet to experience the most lash-lengthening treatment out there: eyelash extensions. If you’re not familiar, getting lash extensions involves attaching faux fringe to your actual lashes via an adhesive glue. They last up to six weeks and look pretty freakin’ fabulous—even nixing the need for mascara—but there’s one thing you should never, ever do once you get them: remove them yourself. Keep on scrolling for all the intel you need on how to remove eyelash extension the right way to protect your lash line. Ok, so can you remove them at home? DIY-ing your own lash extension removal poses the huge unwanted risk of messing with your natural lashes, and all the lash pros advise strongly against it. “If you do it at home, you’ll likely pluck your own lashes, which is not only painful but can also cause lash loss and damage,” says Courtney Buhler, Sugarlash Pro founder and CEO. ad_intervals[‘406702_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘406702_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Besides wrecking your lashes, attempting to remove falsies with olive oil, coconut oil, or any other YouTube DIY will likely not end well. In truth there’s not really an

Wide-leg active pants are apparently back—and giving me major 2003 flashbacks

July 18, 2019 at 02:00AM by CWC Way before leggings became a force of fitness fashion, there were what my college friends and I called “yoga pants”—you know, those stretch cotton bottoms with a wide fold-over waist and bootcut legs. (Yes, I’m one of those old millennials.) We’d put them on for class with a hoodie, to run errands with flip-flops, and, naturally, to yoga classes in the student gym, usually with the spaghetti-strap tank tops we wore out the night before. Soon after I graduated in 2004, my beloved yoga pants went the way of low-rise jeans and bedazzled trucker hats, soon to be replaced by second-skin leggings in high-tech performance fabrics. But, to my surprise, wide leg yoga pants appear to be on the way back in—at least, if a handful of popular activewear labels have anything to say about it. While online shopping the other day, I came across several examples of the look with serious throwback vibes. On-the-rise brand Celestine is making the old-school style modern with wrinkle-proof fabric and a high, vertically-seamed waistband. Year of Ours‘ wide-leg sweatpants share the same silhouette, but in a soft cotton material that’s better suited for recovery days. And there are plenty of options that more closely resemble the yoga pants of my youth, perhaps because the brands never discontinued them in the first place. (Hard Tail, I’m looking at you.) ad_intervals[‘407269_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘407269_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); If you ask Year of

Newsflash: The Outdoor Voices exercise dress is 40% off right now

July 16, 2019 at 08:13AM by CWC Love at first sight is totally a real thing. And if you don’t believe me, just stare deep into the spandex soul of an exercise dress. It’s hard to find a clothing item that hits the mark with comfort, versatility, and style. But a creation from Outdoor Voices checks all the boxes, and it just so happens to be on sale. The brand’s Exercise Dress normally costs $90, but right now you can pick one up for just $54. I get it: It might feel weird spending money on a dress meant for fitness-related activities. But Well+Good editors have been rocking it all summer long for good reason: It’s basically everything you love about your favorite pair of leggings in a stylish little dress. Not only is it cute, but it was made with movement and sweat in mind—meaning whether you’re working out, getting groceries, or grabbing drinks with friends, you won’t be left feeling gross and sticky on hot and humid summer days. That’s because unlike other dresses, it has a breathable (and silky-smooth!) leotard liner that’s sweat-wicking, super lightweight, and stretchy, allowing you to move around comfortably all day long. Basically the only bad thing about it is that you’re not going to want to take it off. ad_intervals[‘408394_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘408394_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Shop OV’s Exercise Dress Buy Now The Exercise Dress in Apricot $54 Buy Now The Exercise Dress in Dahlia $54

What the (ominous-sounding) half blood thunder moon eclipse means for your sign

July 15, 2019 at 04:00PM by CWC The half blood thunder moon is not, as I initially thought, the title of a YA novel. Rather, it’s the name of the full moon taking place on July 16—and, astrologically, a lot is going on during it. In addition to this full moon, also sometimes referred to as the full buck moon (because it falls during the time when bucks begin to grow their horns), there’s also an eclipse happening. Oh, and Mercury’s in retrograde. So what does this mean for you? As a reminder, a full moons occurs when the moon opposes the sun. “The moon in astrology symbolizes our emotional selves, the innermost part of ourselves. It’s our creative impulses,” says Rachel Lang, intuitive astrologer and healer. “The sun symbolizes the way we express that creative impulse. It’s our life force energy and how we see ourselves in the world.” So during full-moon phases, “hidden aspects” of ourselves bubble up—this includes memories, emotions, and dreams. “It’s a time for awareness and to realize things about yourself that come to light in new ways,” she says. ad_intervals[‘407570_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘407570_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’);}); } }, 100); For this particular half blood thunder moon, the sun is in Cancer—the sign of deep emotional connections, family, and home—and the moon is in Capricorn—the sign of ambition, reputation, and our public lives. This means you’re likely to feel some tension between these two areas, specifically, how you manage time and attention

When an eclipse meets a full moon (like this week), strange things can happen

July 14, 2019 at 01:00PM by CWC There are two big cosmic happenings this week: an eclipse and a full moon. And yep, they’re happening at the same time. (Mark your calendars for Tuesday.) What does this mean? Astrologer Jennifer Racioppi offers up her best guidance for a kind-of-cuckoo week that could shake a lot of things up—and could even affect your period.  The week begins with the sun in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn. Perfecting on Sunday, July 14, this combination of the sun, which represents the mood of the moment, in opposition of Pluto, which brings demolition, means that we enter into the new week with a relatively high sense of intensity. This seems fitting considering that during the week ahead, we’ll also experience a partial lunar eclipse at 24 degrees of Capricorn, where the moon will conjoin Pluto, too. Happening on July 16, at 5:38 p.m. Eastern, this lunar south node eclipse triggers transformation. It asks you to let go of that which you no longer need, and rise to the occasion of what’s calling you forward. Lunar eclipses, which happen at the time of a full moon, bring stories to completion. They highlight opportunities for growth. ad_intervals[‘408004_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘408004_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’);}); } }, 100); Lunar eclipses, which happen at the time of a full moon, bring stories to completion. They highlight opportunities for growth. So as the week begins, take time to get grounded. Put your feet on the earth, hand on

What is it *really* like to get a perm for your eyelashes? One editor tried it to find out

July 12, 2019 at 01:00PM by CWC [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im3ejx7zOKM] Curious about lash lifts? Watch this video to see what the treatment’s really like. I grew up knowing all about hair perms. Case in point: My mom had a perm when she gave birth to me, and continued getting it a few times back in the 80s. But I’ve yet to experience a lash lift, which is essentially… a perm for your eyelashes. Well+Good video producer Ella Dove is on the case. In the latest episode of Well+Good’s video series, What the Wellness—in which we test out all of the most out-there things in the wellness world—Dove sits down at Hourglass Cosmetics in Soho to try out the lash treatment for herself. ad_intervals[‘407747_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘407747_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); The thing about lash lifts is that, unlike lash extensions, they’re treating your natural lashes—with a curl—the way a perm does with your hair. The perk to this? Your lashes come out unscathed. “Some derms say extensions can damage the lash line,” says Dove. “This just perks [them] up without adding anything to the face.” So there’s no damage involved—just an eyeball-friendly rod, some adhesive glue and a lash solution, and some under-eye patches. You get to watch the whole thing in action—including Dove’s attempt at taking a selfie with her eyes closed (can she do it?!)—from the adhesion to the curling and, of course, the Big Reveal. (Personally, I gasped.) We even check in with her
