I’ve been wearing NARS Orgasm blush for 15 years, but I might have found its ($10) match

July 24, 2019 at 07:55AM by CWC NARS Orgasm was the first blush I ever used. 14-year-old me stole it out of my mom’s cavernous makeup drawer because I thought the name was h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s, and dusted it on her cheeks on top of orange foundation that was definitely not blended as a way to complete my look… which also involved one of those fake tattoo necklaces and a hairstyle that was straight in the front, lumpy as hell in the back. And boy oh boy, it was love at first dusting. My cheeks had the bronzed, peachy glow that—to quote Lizzie McGuire—is what dreams are made of. I loved it so much that I took it straight from my mom’s bathroom into my own, told her she “must have misplaced it!” and never gave it back. 15 years later, NARS Orgasm ($30) is still the blush that I wear approximately 363 days of the year. It’s well worth the 30 bucks I have to spend to replace it every couple of months, and has a permanent place in my morning, evening, and midday going-from-work-to-a-dinner beauty routines. ad_intervals[‘410408_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘410408_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); As a lifelong devotee of the #orgasmlife (in more ways than one, tbh), I was positively shook when L’Oreal’s newest blush came across my desk and was—in many ways—a dead ringer for the product that I’d been using for half my life. The brand’s new Blush Please “Blushin in Saint Tropez” ($10)

Here’s what to eat on a really long flight, according to a nutritionist

July 22, 2019 at 06:30PM by CWC When you’ve been looking forward to your vacation for weeks, the last thing you want is to end up feeling gross once you get there because the flight threw your digestion off. And when your destination is farther than a quick jaunt to the next state over? Forget about it. What’s the deal with that anyway? Why does stepping foot on an airplane automatically equal digestive distress for so many people? According to Sophia Malek, MScN, culinary nutritionist for Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, there are a lot of factors at play. “A lack of hydration, prolonged sitting, and eating fewer fiber-rich foods can all wreak havoc on your digestion.” “Any time we remove ourselves from our scheduled lives, we open up the possibility of the dreaded traveler’s digestive woes,” Malek says. “A lack of hydration, prolonged sitting, and eating fewer fiber-rich foods can all wreak havoc on your digestion—and that’s if you choose not to have a libation or two.” ad_intervals[‘405226_div-gpt-ad-6934292-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘405226_div-gpt-ad-6934292-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-6934292-3’);}); } }, 100); So before you order that in-flight mimosa or break into a packet of mixed nuts, listen to Malek’s tips for what to eat to keep your digestion happy, no matter how far away you’re flying. 10 pro-approved ways to make short eyelashes look twice their length

July 21, 2019 at 04:01AM by CWC As a lover of all things makeup, I feel like my lashes sometimes hold me back. Whether I’m rocking a bold colorful eye, or a no-makeup makeup look, I tend to crave long, striking lashes that can carry a look, whether they’re meant to be the main event or not. The truth is: My lashes are super short, and don’t stand out as much as I’d like, but short of getting lash extensions I’ve never been sure what to do. So, for a little help, I tapped makeup artists Camara Aunique and Molly R. Stern for their best tips and tricks to make short lashes double in size. How to make your eyelashes look longer, according to celebrity makeup artists 1. Apply your mascara tip to root: Aunique, makeup artist to Ava DuVernay and Angela Bassett, does this trick in two steps. First, she applies her mascara to each eye, from root to tip. Then, she adds a second coat, beginning to add the mascara at the tip of the lashes, and then working her way down to the root, which she explains lengthens and draws out the lashes. ad_intervals[‘408244_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘408244_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); 2. Line your upper water line with black: Both Stern and Aunique recommend applying a black liner to your upper water line (AKA, the pink part under your lashes) and then smudging it into you lash line. For this, Aunique turns to

Urban Outfitters is a secret skin-care paradise—here’s what you can buy for under $20

July 17, 2019 at 10:47AM by CWC I never really felt cool when I was growing up until I discovered Urban Outfitters. Once I waltzed through the store’s collection of boho-slash-vintage-looking clothes (like the vintage renewal baseball jersey that I still have) and cute AF jewelry, I finally felt like I could dress up the way I always wanted to but never could. So I’m happy to report that my OG favorite store still kills it with its beauty selection, which is actually really good. I don’t remember Urban Outfitters having skin-care products when I went there as a teen (which is quite some time ago, mind you), but they’ve been slowly curating their shelves with some actual top-notch finds. Like, they have everything. Prefer slathering on indie beauty serums? Check. Like to stock up on cult-favorites and buzzy ingredients? Check and check. Wanna discover new brands to get your skin glowy? Yup, got that too. ad_intervals[‘408770_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘408770_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100); Urban’s skin-care section is so chock-full of beauty gems that it’s kind of overwhelming. But I challenged myself to pick out the best of the best… that you can get for under 20 bucks (ya know, so you have more money to spend on those clothes, too). So I’ve rounded up the true steals you can score at Urban Outfitters, from active serums to pimple patches, cult beauty favorites (they’ve got Mario Badescu!), and really unique products that I’ve never even seen

How long does it take to get a passport renewed? Now just 24 hours, so don’t panic

July 17, 2019 at 08:39AM by CWC A surefire ways to enter panic-mode is realizing your dust-covered passport is expired—and you’re leaving for Paris, like, tomorrow. In the past, you had two choices: Taking your chances with a sketchy online expedited passport service, or praying to the passport gods that some miracle would save you from having to cancel your vacation. But now, thanks to FedEx, you can renew it safely within 24 hours. Typically, a passport renewal takes 6 to 8 weeks to process—not the best option for last-minute emergencies. According to Afar, FedEx is giving panicked travelers some peace of mind through a new partnership with the expedited passport service RushMyPassport. Whether you need to renew your passport—or get a completely new one—you can do so by popping by one of 2,000 FedEx Office locations across the country. You can even get your passport photos taken right then and there. But it’ll cost ya. ad_intervals[‘408722_div-gpt-ad-6934292-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘408722_div-gpt-ad-6934292-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-6934292-3’);}); } }, 100); To get a passport within 11 to 14 days, the service runs $99. Prices escalate dramatically from there depending on the time frame, topping out at $449 for same-day, 24-hour service. Add to that the U.S. State Department’s separate service fee of $170 for rush orders, and your bank account balance might be hurting by the time you have your passport in your hand… but at least you’ll make that flight! Aside from getting your passport situation figured out, here are

How crying cathartic tears of joy in an Australian koala sanctuary set me free

July 16, 2019 at 03:00AM by CWC I spent my first public crying session surrounded by strangers in Australia—but also by adorable marsupials in at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Last year, I went through a bad breakup, followed by a friends-with-benefits situation that got emotionally out of hand for me, followed by a string of bad dates and disappointments. (Lots of disappointments.) Needless to say, my romantic life was kind of a dumpster fire, which, coupled with my all-time-high anxiety levels, led me to make some bad decisions. Though I managed to outwardly appear “with it,” on the inside? Not so much. So when I had the opportunity to escape the country and go down under to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, I could not have met the situation with a more enthusiastic yes. I needed a break. My most enduring goal for the trip was to see a koala bear, and I was in luck: 12 kilometers from Brisbane is a place called the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. It was founded in 1927 to help injured, sick, and orphaned koalas and is now is home to about 130 of these cute marsupials, plus other native Australian animals, like kangaroos. The spot is accredited by Eco Tourism Australia and the Zoo Aquarium Association, which basically means it’s independently audited to ensure the welfare of the animals and ecologically sustainable practices. There’s also a science and research facility on the property that assists with conservation efforts. ad_intervals[‘407317_div-gpt-ad-6934292-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready)

When it comes to alt-sweeteners, monk fruit is officially the new stevia

July 15, 2019 at 03:00PM by CWC Here’s a healthy eating pop quiz: What’s 150 to 200 times sweeter than sugar, hails from a Southeast Asian fruit, and is in what seems like every single healthy food product launching this year? If you guessed monk fruit, you get an A. No, it’s not exactly new: Jessica Cording, R.D., says that she first saw monk fruit extract three to four years ago, around the time when the Paleo diet became popular. (We’ve been talking about it at Well+Good since 2016.) Ever since, the sweetener has billed itself as a natural sugar alternative rivaling other popular choices like Splenda and stevia. And it has a lot going for it: It’s a plant-based option, isn’t associated with side effects, and some research has shown that it has antioxidant properties. And of course, it isn’t sugar. However, as interest in low-carb eating plans like keto has surged and the world is getting more and more mindful to the ill-effects of excessive sugar consumption, monk fruit seems to have beaten erythritol, stevia, and Splenda to be the alt sweetener du jour. It’s popping up as a selling point on healthy products, was a major buzzword at ExpoWest 2019, and is fueling some interesting innovation in the food space. But how did the ingredient come out on top in the midst of a very crowded field? ad_intervals[‘408229_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘408229_div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-8891272-3’);}); } }, 100); One huge reason: taste. A beauty editor’s guide to saving the most money on Amazon Prime Day

July 13, 2019 at 08:00AM by CWC No joke—three of my favorite things in the entire world are beauty products, sales, and ordering things on Amazon. So naturally, Amazon Prime Day is like my version of Christmas, Hanukkah and my birthday wrapped into one two-day extravaganza. For anyone who is slightly less bedazzled by Amazon than I am and wondering what the heck I’m talking about, Prime Day is 48 hours worth of deals on items all across the site. Considering Amazon literally has everything you could ever possibly need (and a whole lot of stuff you definitely don’t need, but will still probably buy anyway), you’re pretty much guaranteed to find something worth adding to your cart. Obviously, the things that excite me, a beauty editor, the most about the whole event are the beauty deals. And while scrolling through this year’s offerings, I was absolutely pumped to discover that a whole lot of the things on sale are ones that I actually already use in my everyday routine. Scroll through for a few of my favorites, and get ready for a big overnight shipment to show up on your doorstep come July 17. ad_intervals[‘406777_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘406777_div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7520022-3’);}); } }, 100);   Photo: Jane Iredale Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain ($28) The OG clean beauty brand is offering 30 percent off of their Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain, which I recently started using every day. I’m an introvert—how do I make space for ‘me time’ after moving in together?

July 12, 2019 at 10:24AM by CWC Sitting front row at a comedy show, my boyfriend and I became the target of one comedian’s crowd work. He went through his routine couple questions, including if we were planning on moving in together anytime soon. We shook our heads no so fast that the comedian was shocked. “You’ve been together three years, why not?” Logistics aside (my boyfriend works in Atlanta, and I’m in New York City) we’re young, and no where near ready to give up our beloved “me time.” And as an introvert, the idea of waking up every day to another person in my space sounds equal parts glorious and awful. But, I know countless couples make it work, introverts included. So for when I’m ready, what’s the secret to making it work? The key is communicating your expectations and boundaries before move-in day, says Joyce Marter, a licensed psychotherapist and founder of counseling center Urban Balance. If having alone time in your home is a must, tell your partner that. ad_intervals[‘407386_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’] = setInterval(function () { if (ads_ready) { clearTimeout(ad_intervals[‘407386_div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’]); googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-7435403-3’);}); } }, 100); “Sometimes this can be touchy, because sometimes people might feel a little rejected, and not understand your need for alone time,”  Marter says. “Provide some reassurance and let them know that you love them, and you care about them, and of course, you enjoy your time with them. But just part of who you are, is that you need this time and space to

A healthy(ish) weekend in Napa and Sonoma, the twin valleys of wine and wellness

July 12, 2019 at 09:55AM by CWC Located just an hour north of San Francisco and home to more than 100 premium wineries and award-winning olive producers, it’s no wonder Sonoma Valley sees millions of visitors every year. Same goes for its sister region, Napa Valley, where more than 400 wineries await. Together, the two valleys form part of California’s lauded wine country, an oenophile’s dream come true that has become nearly synonymous with “bachelorette party,” “honeymoon,” and “R&R escape.” And while food and drink are surely some of the area’s most prized offerings, there is still plenty for health enthusiasts to do, taste, and see—ensuring the weekend is met with equal parts wellness and wine. Here are some of the best ways to unwind and recharge in one of America’s most beloved destinations. Where to Sleep LEDSON HOTEL Situated directly on Sonoma Square, this luxe property was built by fifth generation Sonoma farmer and winemaker Steve Ledson, who also designed the Ledson Winery—a 16,000-square-foot “castle” located 14 miles from town. The hotel features six rooms (each one named for a different member of the Ledson), and while each 400-square-foot space has a personality of its own, they all share the same high caliber comforts, from imported glass chandeliers and wood-carved ceilings to plush oriental rugs and luxury bedding. After a long day of activities, curl up by the fireplace at lobby level Zina Lounge, or watch the sun set from the venue’s ample sidewalk seating. ad_intervals[‘406849_div-gpt-ad-6934292-3’] = setInterval(function ()
