How Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum Modernized Fashion-Focused Reality TV

April 21, 2020 at 06:04PM If you’d told me over a decade ago when I started my love affair with Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum that one day I’d be interviewing them while wearing sweatpants, I wouldn’t have believed you. Yet that was how my (mercifully audio only) Zoom call with the Making the Cut co-creators and presenters went down. I was relieved that Klum admitted she’s also been keeping it casual while in quarantine. “I’m not sure my feet will ever be able to get into heels after being in Birkenstocks for all this time,” she laughed, to which Gunn emphatically responded, “They will!” Chatting with the duo is much like watching them on the show—like listening to two friends mull over the state of fashion today in the most optimistic way. When asked what it was like conceptualizing a reality show for a 2020 audience, Gunn began by saying, “Heidi, a word you’ve used frequently is ‘relevance’. We wanted to show a fashion competition that was relevant to today, and that’s really about branding. Yeah, you want the dress to be pretty but the conversation has to go beyond that.” View this post on Instagram Did you love the winning looks this week?! This Adorable Maxi Dress You Keep Seeing on Instagram Is Only $12 Right Now

April 21, 2020 at 05:41PM Just like doing my hair or spending extra time grooming my eyebrows, putting in the extra effort to find something cute to wear – even if I’m just working from home and in sweats – has the ability to affect my mood. There’s certainly no replacement for stylish loungewear, but I was curious as to what would happen if I challenged myself to wear a dress while working from home – weather dependent, of course. In part because I kept seeing this adorable printed maxi dress in my Instagram feed, which I’ll link to ahead, but also because I was just genuinely curious about whether I’d feel silly wearing a dress inside, or if I’d love it. I’m happy to report that last week, I wore a thin maxi dress inside three times! Not only was I completely comfortable (important note that I only wore easy-breezy dresses; nothing formfitting), but exuded a bit more pep throughout my day. I encourage you to take a break from your usual loungewear game and embark on a dress journey. If you need some shopping ideas, here’s the dress that got me in the mood – it’s on sale for $12, too! The Most Fashionable Mother-Daughter Duos in Hollywood

April 21, 2020 at 04:06PM Despite their sometimes-questionable clothing choices, we must admit: our mothers basically built the foundation for our love of fashion. From where to shop for classic pieces to how to dress for an interview, they were always ready with an A-plus solution, and they weren’t the only lady to pass down her style sense to her offspring. In fact, plenty of our favorite stars can boast that they, too, got it from their mama. Whether it’s Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson rocking curve-hugging dresses or Kim Kardashian and North West showing their love for the color black, we love spotting well-dressed celebrity mom-and-daughter duos out and about. Keep reading to see all the cases where celebrities prove that sometimes, good taste is totally genetic. – Additional reporting by Sarah Wasilak Continue Reading… Author Samantha Sutton | Popsugar Selected by CWC

London Fashion Week Announces It’s Going Gender Neutral and Digital

April 21, 2020 at 03:55PM The British Fashion Council announced today that it will launch a new digital platform to connect designers with media, buyers, consumers and more. It will launch in June, when the city’s men’s shows were set to start, and the platform will continue over the year with a gender neutral format to allow participating designers more flexibility. “It is essential to look at the future and the opportunity to change, collaborate and innovate,” the BFC’s chief executive, Caroline Rush, said in a press release that went out with early details about how the new LFW will be presented. “The current pandemic is leading us all to reflect more poignantly on the society we live in and how we want to live our lives and build businesses when we get through this. The other side of this crisis, we hope will be about sustainability, creativity and product that you value, respect, cherish.” Photo by Imaxtree. As the first of the four major fashion week cities to announce future plans, the new take on LFW addresses not only the immediate issues of travel restrictions and halted production in light of COVID-19; it also hones in on other elements that have long needed to be addressed throughout the industry on a global scale, from the environmental impact and relevance of the fashion weeks themselves, to manufacturing and the cycle in which items are sold. Designers will have the opportunity to use the platform to sell not only forthcoming designs

I Looked Through 3,947 Items in the Matches Sale—and These Are My Favourites

April 21, 2020 at 11:12AM Matchesfashion just launched its mid-season sale, with 30% off many of our most-loved brands such as Shrimps, Ganni and Self Portrait. However it currently has 3,947 items listed under this offer, which translates into hours of pressing ‘next page’ if you wanted to look through it all. We have combed through all of the shoes, dresses, accessories and more to bring you a concise edit of the best offers we saw.  Our main shopping advice is always to buy things that will fit within your own wardrobe, love for years (it’s best to avoid fads) and will actually wear. Simple we know, but this advice is more important when shopping in the sales. Instead of focusing on the reductions and what a great deal something is, it’s more important to consider whether this is something that is actually missing from your wardrobe. In the sale we’ve found lots of classic items that will act as building blocks in your wardrobe, such as Emma Willis shirts and Alighieri necklaces. With weddings and holidays on-hold, there’s notably more formal dresses and new-in bikinis in the sale than usual for this time of year. Many people in the industry use the sales primarily to buy things for the next year, rather than shopping for the season we’re in. Highlights include a Self Portrait powder blue midi dress, Shrimps’ cult pearl hair clips and straw hats from the new brand Avenue the Label.  Next up, see our guide to the key spring summer

I’m 5’1″ and These Are the Petite High-Street Items I Love

April 21, 2020 at 11:05AM With spring here and summer fast approaching, it seems that dress season is well and truly underway. And while, I absolutely love this time of year, and all the beautiful weather it brings with it, for me, the phrase “dress season” doesn’t conjure up images of beachy linen mini dresses or flowing floral midis. No—it only makes me think of alterations and the dread of having to take each aforementioned dress to the tailor. You see, standing at the very petite height of 5’1″, historically, it has been very rare that I’ve been able to find a dress (or anything else for that matter) that actually fits me without the need to be taken up. It’s a fate I very much accepted in my late teens, as I learned how to shorten my clothes with hemming tape and an iron. Thankfully, though, in the years since then, several high-street retailers have heard my prayers and created petite-specific clothing lines, where absolutely no hemming is required. From Topshop and ASOS to Dorothy Perkins and New Look, several high-street brands throughout the UK are currently catering specifically to women 5’3″ and below. And better yet, many labels are creating their best selling pieces in shorter, petite-friendly sizes. From Topshop’s ever-popular floral midi dresses to H&M’s timeless cigarette trousers to ASOS’s trend-led looks, keep scrolling for all my favourite petite pieces from the high-street spring collections. This Basic Mango Top Will Make Any Outfit Look Expensive

April 21, 2020 at 10:00AM There’s nothing that’s made me feel quite so old as TikTok. Perhaps it’s the energetic dances that require hours of practice or maybe it’s that I just don’t understand why anyone would want another social media platform to be a part of. Honestly, just leave me with my Instagram stories and an occasional tweet and I’m happy. While social media might be constantly delivering new platforms that make me confused, I’m not, however, confused by fashion. True, fashion thrives on “newness” but ultimately, trends always come back around again, which I find comfortingly reliable. Right now, the industry has a fixation on the ’90s minimalist trend and with that has come a new love for the sleeveless T-shirt, in particular from Mango. Mango‘s latest season has been particularly brilliant but it’s this shoulder padded vest top that comes in three different colourways—black, white and striped—that’s really made an impact. It’s easy to see why: not only does it elevate jeans, skirts and high-waisted trousers and make them appear more luxe, it’s also a winner for the warmer months. Plus, if you just throw on a blazer and a gold chain or pair of earrings you’re ready for all those important work Zoom meetings. Keep scrolling to see how to style it then shop the top, plus some of our other favourites from Mango right now.  Next up, the biggest spring/summer 2020 fashion trends you need to know  Continue Reading… Author Elinor Block | Whowhatwear Selected by CWC

I Asked 36 Designers to DM Me Pics of Their WFH Looks, and They Actually Did

April 21, 2020 at 05:00AM Being cooped up at home can bring up a lot of feelings. Our world is currently in a state of self-isolation and social distancing due to the coronavirus—something we are not typically accustomed to as a culture. While we are all attempting to band together as a society to do our part by staying inside, that doesn’t mean we can’t get creative with alternative ways to connect to one another. And in this new series, we’re connecting via our favourite at-home outfits. Next up: designers.  It’s now been quite some time since we were first asked to stay indoors. While I don’t think that this is a lifestyle we will ever really get used to (and hopefully we won’t have to), I do think it’s fair to assume that we have all fallen into at least some sort of at-home routine. For some, this might consist of early morning workouts, while others are quite literally waking up 30 seconds before their first Zoom meeting of the day. Whichever category you fall into, there’s no shame, because today, we’re here to talk about sartorial routines over productivity ones, although the designers ahead would probably argue the two are directly related.  That’s right, for the latest installment of this franchise, I reached out to some of my favourite designers to see if they were willing to send me a photo of their working-from-home looks. If you’ve been struggling to wrap your head around what to put on your body that isn’t sweatpants for the fifth day in
