9 comfy ‘Booksmart’-inspired jumpsuits that’ll earn you an A+ in summer party style

May 31, 2019 at 06:19AM by CWC For the uninitiated, Booksmart follows two overachieving besties who try to jam-pack a last chance at high-school revelry into a single night after having spent years playing things, well, by the book. Spoiler alert: They’re as successful in their party endeavor as they undoubtedly were on their AP tests—perhaps most notably in their #lewk for the night out. Molly (Beanie Feldstein) and Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) end up styling themselves like badass Ghostbusters in comfy AF jumpsuits and sneakers. Some might call that an ill-informed fashion faux pas or just like, “a real chore if you need to pee.” But I, for one, am here for it because when you’re ready to eschew the JOMO and be a high-performing social butterfly, nothing says you’re ready to kick ass, take names, and make some memories like a cool jumpsuit. An all-purpose jumpsuit is the outfit for ambitious doers who prioritize function above all. Done right, it’s work-appropriate, errand-appropriate and gym-appropriate. It communicates that you’re crawling out of your introvert shell and you’re doing just fine. Sure, a case could be made for cute floral sundresses being the summertime party go-to, but the one-piece look encompasses enough visual interest that it doesn’t even need a wacky print to jazz it up. It is the strong and silent type that means business—even if the business at hand is a good time. Sure, the summer jumpsuit can be accessorized with the likes of funky belts, heeled metallic sandals,

Without a doubt, this is the biggest mistake we make when exfoliating in the shower

May 30, 2019 at 05:00PM by CWC Once upon a time, I likened scrubbing my body in the shower to folding laundry. I considered it a real chore. Now, however, I’ve changed my tune. A dermatologist taught me how to properly exfoliate at home from head-to-toe without wasting a single drop of precious product—and it’s made the whole business of scrub-a-dub-dubbing way easier (not to mention more eco-friendly). You know that really annoying moment when you’ve slathered your go-to exfoliant all over and—gah!—the stream of the shower sends the product straight down the drain before your bod has time to drink it up? Before it has time to form that “lather” that labels say is oh-so-important? Well, here’s the solve. By simply turning on the water, getting your skin damp, then applying product while the shower is off, you avoid wasting your product (and water) while giving it time to really work its skin-shedding magic. Just make sure you don’t skip step one (wetting the skin). Joshua Zeichner, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City, explains that applying a harsher product to a dry complexion could do more harm than good. “When the skin is warm and hydrated, dead cells on the surface may more easily be removed and cause less trauma. Especially when using manual exfoliators or gritty products, over-scrubbing may lead to skin irritation, loss of hydration, and inflammation,” he says. The skin expert-recommended allowance for exfoliating is once a week, but you can shoot for a

The leopard print midi (AKA spring’s fave skirt) looks even better as leggings

May 30, 2019 at 03:24PM by CWC As my fashion-stylist friends always like to say, leopard print is a neutral. At least that’s true this season, when you can’t open Instagram without seeing some chic woman rocking a mid-calf length, silky skirt in some variation on the pattern. And while that leopard-print midi skirt is actually a lot more versatile than you might think—I’ve seen it paired with vintage band tees, oversize blazers, and platform sneakers, sometimes all at the same time—the one place you can’t really make it work is the gym. (I mean, prove me wrong, please!) Thankfully, the activewear powers that be are one step ahead of us. Leopard leggings, too, are all over the place for summer, with options in all different colors, sizes, and price points. They’re a more unexpected choice than the typical warm-weather florals (Miranda Priestley would be so proud), and as someone who owns a pair, I like to think they give me a little hit of badass energy when I’m about to tackle a particularly hard workout. Plus, because they’re a print, they do a great job hiding sweat after a particularly grueling fitness class. Keep on scrolling for the best-of-the-best leopard print leggings to add to your rotation. From baby blue varieties to biker shorts to some good old-fashioned 7/8-length classic spots, there are plenty of ways to take the print this spring (whether or not you also have the skirt that’s seen everywhere this spring). One thing’s for certain:

I found the one thing that will get makeup out of white tees faster than a Tide stick

May 30, 2019 at 11:13AM by CWC Every single day, I diligently apply my skin care and then a light layer of CC cream and concealer to make it look like I’m rocking the no-makeup makeup look (and I feel all sneaky about it). No one can tell that I’m wearing a full face of makeup (right, coworkers?) at all. But then, inevitably, I look down and see that my secret has been given out to everyone, because I have makeup stains all over my shirt. Walking around with a shirt full of foundation isn’t exactly the most stylish look, and it’s also a true pain in the ass to get the stuff out. I can’t tell you how many white T-shirts I’ve permanently ruined by accidentally touching them too shortly after applying foundation… because I have no idea how to get the stains out. But apparently there are some really great tried and true methods for getting those pesky makeup spots out of your clothes (that I just discovered today), and it’s actually not as hard to do as you might think. One way to get the job done? Use your dish soap (fun fact: dish soap can also clean your dirty white sneakers). “Dish soap does the trick,” says Maeve Richmond, founder of home organizational company Maeve’s Method. “Oil is an essential ingredient in most makeup, and dish soap is designed to gently break down oils to help get things clean.” A-ha. There are things you should try

How to genuinely connect with people, even if you’re a serious social introvert

May 30, 2019 at 04:00AM by CWC Last month, while trying to escape a group work dinner because I didn’t know anyone yet (it was, like, my third day), I ran into my boss and admitted that I didn’t know how to connect with people. I felt as if I had transferred to a new school mid-semester, and texting my old coworkers made me wish I was back at my old professional stomping grounds. My boss was quick to remind me that overcoming my social anxiety and building up my harem of work wives (my words, not hers) wouldn’t happen overnight. Still, connecting with people is hard whether you’re introverted, starting over, have an intimidating RBF, or simply want to make basic human connections. It was true before we shielded ourselves behind the walls of iPhone screens, but its truer now. That said, if you are a classic introvert, even professionals agree this can be an especially tough obstacle. “Extroverts tend to ‘collect’ friends—sometimes at the expense of having quantity over quality. Introverts, when they do make friends, often connect by slowly forming solid, deep ties.” —psychologist Carla Marie Manly, PhD “Extroverts have it easy when it comes to making connections, yet learning to form genuine connections is an area where introverts can learn to shine,” says psychologist Carla Marie Manly, PhD, and author of Joy From Fear. “Extroverts tend to ‘collect’ friends—sometimes at the expense of having quantity over quality. These butt exercises are so good, J.Lo will be asking you for your routine

May 29, 2019 at 11:05AM by CWC With the peach emoji at its all-time high, it’s no wonder we’re looking for new ways to get our booties into shape. The only question is, how exactly do you do that? Sure, there are squats, but what else? If you’ve been wondering how to work your butt, you’ll be glad to know that some of the industry’s top trainers shared their favorite glutes workouts to take any old sweat sesh up a notch. Whether you choose to add all of these movements to your routine or test out just a few, there’s no denying that toning your bum can have major health benefits. “The glutes are one of the strongest muscle groups of the body and have important roles in movement including thigh extension, rotation and abduction, and pelvic stability, so having a strong seat is instrumental in everyday life,” says Pure Barre’s VP of training and technique Katelyn DiGiorgio. In other words, keep scrolling to learn how to tone, tighten, and lift your cheeks with the exercises below. Single leg glute bridges Flywheel master instructor Kara Liotta and co-founder of Tone It Up Katrina Scott agree, you simply can’t go wrong with single leg glute bridges. To perform the exercise, begin on your back and bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor with your knees over your ankles. “Lift your hips three inches off of the floor and slightly round your tailbone under,” instructs Liotta. “This is

What’s next after athleisure? Smart clothes (yes, really!)

May 28, 2019 at 03:30AM by CWC The promise of connected, healing clothes is approaching “science fact.” They can heat and cool you, adapt to your movement, and help you sleep, moisturize your body all day, or instantly broadcast your mood. Well+Good Council member Susie Ellis, chairman and CEO of Global Wellness Summit previews the clothing of the future—and the game-changing garments that are already here. Clothes are the only things pressed up against our bodies all day, but aside from broadcasting our style or just covering us up, they’ve been decidedly “dumb.” The promise of intelligent, connected clothing has been dangled for years, but too much of the technology was clunky, with all those awkward batteries, sensors, and wires. (Smart underwear doesn’t feel so smart if you can’t wash them.) The tech tipping point finally feels here. But the tech tipping point finally feels here. Sensors and power supplies are becoming seamlessly integrated into new fabrics, and with the interweaving of everything from AI to body-mapping technologies, it means the new connected clothes aren’t just smart, they’re intuitive. They can adapt to the environment and weather, your movement and body state—in real time. They can heat and cool your body, regulate airflow and UV rays, help us sleep and recover, change shape based on our movement, and shift color and pattern with our mood. In time, they will collect all kinds of biometric and behavioral data, and perhaps ultimately give people some extra-human powers. New clothing lines are even
