July 02, 2020 at 04:18PM There are many different ways to support the Black Lives Matter movement through advocacy and financial investment. And this week, Canadian street style photographer Sabrina Fenster, who works under the moniker StreetScout, launched the sale of a series of prints (some with handwritten notes from the images’ subjects), with 100% of the proceeds from the images going to The Loveland Foundation. Founded in 2018 by writer and lecturer Rachel Cargle, Loveland provides a therapy fund for Black women and girls across America, as well as opportunities for advancement through fellowships, residency programs and listening tours. “I am using my street style photography as a platform to give to a charitable foundation and create ongoing and tangible social impact,” says Fenster about her mission with the series. “My goal is to create and share prints that are driven by purpose, and also give you, the buyer, the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change while hanging something beautiful in your home. Not only are you supporting the cause, you are getting a token from the cause. Each print serves as a reminder of your ongoing commitment to create positive change toward racial equality.” We caught up with Fenster, who has also been documenting BLM protests, to find out more about why she’s selling her photos, and what she’s learned by following the momentum of Black Lives Matter. Housed in mood-boosting neon packaging, the 13-piece assortment is all about easy makeup staples that pack a nostalgic, yet modern, punch. Ahead of the collection release on July 6th, we chatted with the triple threat and mother (who also recently revealed that she’s expecting her second child!) to get the tea on the cool collab. On the makeup look that makes her feel the most empowered: “Natural beauty is definitely powerful for me, and I like that more ’90s super-simple look because it reminds me of my mom and all the women that I look up to. Seeing them keep their look natural and embracing their features — that’s powerful to me. I like a nice neutral cheek because I feel like I’m embracing my strong features and embracing my skin tone. I feel comfort knowing that I don’t need much.” On her MAC collaboration: “I created the line based around the fact that, for me, less is more and for all my girls who love the ’90s.” On her favourite product from the collab, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish: “I love it because it’s

Loewe Unveils New Collection for Pride Month Dedicated to Legendary Drag Queen, Divine
June 24, 2020 at 02:02PM Although Pride month looks a little different this year, brands are still releasing collections to mark the occasion in style. Now, Loewe has unveiled its Pride month collection which has a unique spin – the entire collection is dedicated to performer Divine (nee Harris Glenn Milstead). Divine is a legendary drag icon, who starred in a series of John Waters films in the seventies and eighties, including Pink Flamingos, Lust in the Dust and Hairspray. Once called “the filthiest person alive,” Divine “preempted the glorification of trash, the mix of high and low, the fantastic erasure of gender barriers,” explains designer Jonathan Anderson in a release. He added that Divine “was quite simply larger than life. He was in every sense – as a man, a performer, a personality and a body. To me, he is the embodiment of self-determination.” As such, Anderson “thought it was time to celebrate him, the LOEWE way: with a capsule collection inspired by his looks and a museum exhibition honouring his artistry.” Although COVID has scuppered any plans to host the exhibition anytime soon (an updated virtual format is live now with the hopes that an in-person event can take place in the future), the brand has pressed on with a smaller, limited-edition collection, which officially launches tomorrow. It consists of three T-shirts and a Cushion tote bag, each of which will be available to purchase online. The shirts feature Divine’s image, as well as the quote, “Is this ‘woman’ the

My Story: Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs on Queer Indigenous Representation in the Entertainment Industry
June 23, 2020 at 04:17PM Born and raised in the Kanien’kehá:ka Mohawk Territory in Quebec, actress Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs has made a name for herself playing roles as wide-ranging as a teenager dealing with the repercussions of the residential school system in Rhymes For Young Ghouls and “a badass werewolf” on the Netflix show The Order. Currently based in Toronto, the 26-year-old actress has also written and directed some of her own projects, which reflect her experience and perspective as a queer Indigenous woman. Now, during National Indigenous History Month, she has partnered up with Made Nous (a Canadian entertainment industry-wide initiative) to spotlight Indigenous artists—actors, writers, filmmakers and others. Here, she shares, in her own words, how she got her start, the kinds of projects she’s drawn to, and why it’s important for there to be more Indigenous representation in front of and behind the camera. On growing up: I always wanted to act, since before I even knew that it was a career. I would always make home videos, and force my sister to direct them and act in them with me. I also [participated] in the Turtle Island Theatre Company, which is a small community theatre on my reserve. It was through that that my mom saw how much I loved performing. She submitted me, without my knowledge, to an agency in Quebec. They accepted and then she sat me down and asked if it was something that I wanted to do and if it was, that
