April 24, 2020 at 03:38PM We’re all adapting to working from home as we continue to shelter in place as the COVID-19 pandemic continues across Canada and the rest of the world. The situation has forced businesses and their employees to adapt to new ways of working – including those in the fashion industry. Case in point: Bella Hadid starring in the first fashion campaign shot via FaceTime for Jacquemus. Working with designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti, Hadid shot a series of images modelling pieces from the brand’s S/S20 collection. Naturally, the campaign is called ‘Jacquemus at Home.’ Sharing the images via Instagram, Hadid wrote that shooting the campaign was the “best few hours…reconnecting.” In the snaps, Bella sports an array of pieces from the brand’s 10th anniversary collection including knitted crops, an oversized white tailored suit, various bralettes, bodysuits, sunglasses, and some very specifically placed handbags. The pandemic is forcing fashion brands to rethink the ways in which they approach seasonal collections, and subsequently shows and campaigns. Earlier this

How Toronto Jewellery Brand Biko Is Highlighting Frontline Workers
April 24, 2020 at 02:45PM What started as a simple gesture of goodwill grew into a heartwarming highlight reel for Corrine Anestopoulos of Biko. As the COVID-19 crisis took hold and she found herself learning more about the issues faced by essential and frontline workers, Anestopoulos says, “I knew I had to pivot my attention and do something productive” to help others in need. After donating to Toronto’s Sistering organization, which works with at-risk women and trans people, Anestopoulos set her sights on a giveaway project for frontline workers who would be nominated by family and friends in Biko’s network. After posting details through the brand’s online platforms, she was shocked by the outpouring of stories about nurses, doctors, pharmacists and more. “My inbox was just flooded,” she says. “I was like, this is beyond me, this is beyond my personal community. And the stories are just unreal—it’s amazing that people are still functioning while keeping a smile on their face.” View this post on Instagram About a week ago, we created a mini-series titled ✨ ‘Daily Hero’ ✨ to commemorate the incredible submissions we received in response to our Gift-Away. . Self-Isolation Diary: A Day in the Life of Designer Andrew Coimbra
April 24, 2020 at 02:00PM As people around the country wind down their sixth week of self-isolation, FASHION is reaching out to some of our favourite Canadians to get a peek into how they’re living their lives in lockdown (remember: #StayHomeSaveLives). Each week, keep an eye out for new self-isolation diaries from actors, designers, athletes and artists who are riding this uncertain time out with us. Andrew Coimbra, Designer Wheeewwww! The last few weeks have been a very unique and challenging experience. Like many, I’ve become incredibly focused on the climbing numbers that reflect the infection rates across the world, the new government protocols in response to those numbers, and the personal stories coming from friends all over the world. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel consumed by it. It feels like we’re living in a Margaret Atwood novel! It should go without saying that my heart goes out to my friends and members of my family who are in the healthcare industry. I have made a point of touching base to check in with them often, and making sure that they have a non-healthcare industry person to vent to. People underestimate how emotionally exhausting a role in healthcare can be on a ‘normal’ day, and that the opportunity to escape the internal politics of it all can be a gift. In the meantime, I have been keeping myself busy—or I should say, I have been made to be kept busy by virtue of my living situation.
Celebrities Are Getting In On The Quarantine #PillowChallenge
April 23, 2020 at 09:00PM We’re into week six of social distancing, and the internet is showing no signs of fatigue when it comes to creativity. TikTok is bursting with videos, Tiger King memes are still coming in thick and fast, and now, style inspiration is coming from the last place we would have expected: pillows. Yep, you read that right. One of the newest trends to sweep the ‘gram is the #QuarantinePillowChallenge which sees fashionistas style their pillows as dresses secured in place with a belt and then accessorized. It really brings a whole new meaning to loungewear. Increasingly, celebrities are getting in on the action, too. Hilariously, Anne Hathaway channeled her iconic Princess Diaries character Mia as she shared an image of herself doing the challenge overnight. Noting her lateness to the game, the actress wrote, “A Queen is never late, everyone else is simply early.” See some of the best looks we’ve seen from the #QuarantinePillowChallenge so far below: View this post on Instagram “A Queen is never late; everyone else is simply early.” ? #pillowchallenge A post shared by Anne Hathaway (@annehathaway) on Apr 22, 2020 at 7:52am PDT //www.instagram.com/embed.js View this post on Instagram Am I too late? #pillowchallenge A post shared by Tracee Ellis Ross (@traceeellisross) on Apr 20, 2020 at 4:05pm PDT //www.instagram.com/embed.js View this post on Instagram You already KNOW you couldn’t keep me from the #PillowChallenge ? Loewe Launches First Unisex Fragrance in its Ibiza Collection
April 23, 2020 at 06:31PM Today, Loewe is unveiling its newest Ibiza collection, and with it comes the brand’s first fragrance under the yearly line. Working with the brand’s in-house perfumer Nuria Cruelles, designer Jonathan Anderson created the limited edition unisex scent, which includes notes of warm ambergris, Madagascan mandarin oils, driftwood, frangipani flowers, vanilla absolute, Sulawesi patchouli oil, and fresh coconut water. “It reminds me of sun-kissed summers I spent in Ibiza as a teenager. Abandon knows no rules or borders, thereafter our fragrance is as irreverent and sun-drenched as it is universal.” Photograph courtesy of Loewe The fragrance is part of the brand’s new Paula’s Ibiza collection, which saw the designer mine the archives of ’70s store Paula’s to bring its “iconic prints inspired by the natural world” to life once again. The playful collection is brimming with bright hued pieces for men and women, as well as accessories. In a note that accompanied the press release for the new collection, Anderson wrote, “I know this is not exactly the ideal time to launch products, but this is a project all the craftspeople at Loewe have been lovingly working on for some time, giving life to objects that are exquisitely lively and optimistic – as craft always is. This is a happy, undeniably escapist collection, conveyed through colourful and energetic images, and I thought it might cheer you up. As a visual feast, probably, or an aide-mémoire of better times to come. I hope you and your family
Clare Waight Keller Opens up About Creating Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding Dress
April 23, 2020 at 05:22PM It’s been almost two weeks since news broke that Clare Waight Keller was stepping down for role at the helm of Givenchy. The first woman to lead the brand in its history, Waight Keller has left an undeniable mark on the French luxury house. One of her, ahem, crowning moments was dressing Meghan Markle for her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. Today, the designer has taken to Instagram to reminisce about creating one of the most iconic wedding dresses in history. “Two years ago today I was in the final fittings for a very secret dress,” she began a lengthy post detailing the “incredibly beautiful relationship of trust and intimacy” that comes from creating a wedding dress for someone, not least the newest member of the British royal family. “So many emotions were running through me during those months leading up to the big day. A wedding dress is one of the most exquisite and beautiful moments for a designer, but also personally as a woman artist [and] creator, there is a lot of sensitivity that flows through the process from the knowledge and understanding of the feelings that you have as a bride.” Waight Keller added that the process of creating Meghan’s dress brought back memories of her own wedding 20 years prior. “You remember every moment so clearly and realize the significance of every detail and decision. In so many ways you are capturing your dreams, that as a girl and as
12 Canadian-Made Soap Brands to Perk Up Your Handwashing Routine
April 23, 2020 at 03:45PM It’s quite possible humans have never talked about hand washing as much as we have in the past two months. From guidelines on how exactly to wash one’s hands to 20-second suggestions of song clips to help time it just right (A Little Bit Alexis is our personal favourite), our sink routines have become a hot topic of discussion. Blue Ivy Carter, the precocious offspring of Jay-Z and Beyonce, even got in on the action, making a video to illustrate how exactly soap helps repel bacteria and viruses. To help make the mundane task of washing our hands a few dozen times a day a bit more pleasant, we rounded up some of the best hand soap brands in Canada. Support a local brand and spice up your life-saving sink routine. A win win. Anto Yukon This small-batch body care company’s products are inspired by the Canadian wilderness and created in the founder’s Yukon studio. Your Travel Pouch Isn’t Just for Travel
April 23, 2020 at 02:48PM Although you’re not planning any travel right now, it doesn’t mean your travel accessories need to be sitting idle collecting dust. The pocket shaped bag on a long strap has become a street style staple. Pouches that double as passport protectors will need to make room for keys, credit cards and hand sanitizer as they move up in the list to priority baggage. The small size and convenient strap make a travel bag a more practical option than the micro or mini bag trend. Worn cross body or dangling around the neck, this hands free style just makes sense.
