These Are the Clothes Our Fashion Editors Are Lounging Around in All Summer Long
June 01, 2020 at 03:15PM The feel-good thrill of summer always puts us in the mood to get dressed in outfits that boost our confidence. We want to try out new swimwear brands, play with different shorts lengths, and let our toes breathe in cute new sandals. Turns out, despite what our summer routines may look like, this year isn’t any different. We still feel inspired to wear clothes that make us happy. Since we aren’t dressing up to go out to any fancy events, our wardrobes are just a touch more comfortable, but they don’t skimp on style. (Take the above jeans from Frame, for example, which are a trendy new style called the Le Baggy – essentially as roomy as your sweats!) We rounded up the stuff we’re wearing at home that makes us want to stop and take a selfie every time we walk past the mirror. From jewelry you can use to layer over your blouses for Zoom calls to lightweight linen jumpsuits we could basically sleep in – or enjoy a glass of wine outside on the porch – these are our fashion must haves that we’re carrying with us through the end of the summer and beyond, and truthfully, a lot of them will probably make it onto our Instagram feeds. What’s more, Mickey Mouse even makes an appearance, so this is definitely a range worth checking out. The fashion label for curvy sizes 10-30 has aptly tagged this new release “Celebrate Love,” and 20 percent of all sales will go to the Torrid Foundation in support of GLAAD, an organization that advocates for LGBTQ+ acceptance globally. Torrid also gives customers the ability to donate to GLAAD through its foundation directly upon checking out on the site. Aside from the fact that we like seeing a brand founded on the idea of diversity supporting the pride community, we’re also pretty stoked to shop from this assortment of loungewear that packs a punch, especially since these cotton separates are everything we want to be wearing right now. It’s important to note that if you see something you love, you should snag it while you can, because the full line will only be available on torrid.com through June 30, and the friendly price point is definitely reason for these cute tees, sweats, and dresses to sell out. How I Finally Embraced My Androgynous Style
June 01, 2020 at 11:00AM Image Source: Elaine Oyzon-Mast First let me preface this story with one cold, hard fact: I’m in my 40s. I am not and never was a supercool, 20-something lesbian with an awesome sense of style and an even more awesome wardrobe (think Ruby Rose – I sure do, A LOT). The truth is, when I was in my 20s, I was far too afraid to be who I wanted to be, to dress how I wanted to dress, and to quit giving a sh*t what other people thought. The older I got and the more confident I became with the person I was, the less I cared about what others thought. I let too many years go by trying to be someone else, being uncomfortable in my skin and in my clothes. But I’m proud to say that I’ve finally developed a sense of style that doesn’t just allow me to hold my head up, it also gives me the confidence that conforming to social norms never did. I’ve never been a girlie girl. My whole life I have been the epitome of a tomboy. For as long as I can remember – long before I knew I was gay at age 18 – I have struggled to find clothes I was comfortable in. At primary school dances, when every other little girl was wearing a dress, I couldn’t think of anything worse. One year, I went in (homemade) MC Hammer pants and a t-shirt
Aurora James Calls on Corporations to Buy 15% of Products From Black-Owned Businesses
May 31, 2020 at 08:06PM Amid nationwide protests in response to the death of George Floyd, designer Aurora James of Brother Vellies issued a powerful call to action, asking major corporations to support Black-owned businesses with a 15 percent pledge. Aurora shared her plea on Instagram on Saturday night, specifically directed toward Target, Whole Foods, MedMen, Net-a-Porter, Home Depot, Sephora, Barnes & Noble, and Saks Fifth Avenue. The first slide of her post is a handwritten message: “OK, here’s one thing you can do for us . . .” “So many of your businesses are built on Black spending power,” she wrote in the following slides and in the post’s caption. “So many of your stores are set up in Black communities. So many of your sponsored posts are seen on Black feeds. This is the least you can do for us. We represent 15% of the population and we need to represent 15% of your shelf space.” “We represent 15% of the population and we need to represent 15% of your shelf space.” Aurora used Whole Foods as an example, and explained its commitment would send support back to Black farmers from every level: they’d be legitimized in the eyes of banks and investors, and small businesses would have more opportunity for growth. “Real investment will start happening in Black businesses which will subsequently be paid forward into our Black communities,” she wrote. As a businesswoman, Aurora understands the complexities of this challenge. “I have sold millions of dollars
Old Navy’s $35 Stretchy Striped Blazer Is Finally Back in Stock – See How Women Are Wearing It
May 30, 2020 at 12:25AM Classic Breton stripes are always a good idea. The simple sailor-like striped pattern looks adorable on T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and even blazers, and right now, Old Navy has a perennial bestseller that we’re making room for in our closet. It’s made of a soft ponte-knit rayon and nylon blend with some added stretch, which means you can scrunch up the sleeves to your heart’s content without sacrificing comfort. (We hate when blazers are too stiff to even roll up the sleeves.) The Pinstriped Ponte-Knit Blazer ($38, originally $45) blazer is easy to incorporate into any existing wardrobe. You can throw it on over jeans and a simple white T-shirt or even an everyday dress. The blazer has been a bestseller and routinely sells out, but it’s back in stock right now, so don’t delay! We’re all about simple outfit upgrades, and this one is a smart buy. See how other women wear striped blazers if you need some styling inspiration. Lady Gaga Was Pulled Over by Tiffany’s Security After the Oscars . . . on Her Way to Taco Bell
May 29, 2020 at 10:47PM [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8ep-bRmI2g] On a night when she was wearing a 128-carat diamond, Lady Gaga has never been so relatable! Fresh off the release of her exceptional studio album Chromatica, the powerhouse entertainer stopped by for a virtual appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where she spoke about the fateful evening of the 2019 Oscars. Not only did she win the award for best original song with “Shallow,” but she also wore the insane Tiffany & Co. necklace that was last worn by Audrey Hepburn during a photo shoot for Breakfast at Tiffany’s. During her interview, Gaga revealed that wearing that necklace came with some intense security and a hilarious interaction outside Taco Bell. “I leave with the diamond on, and I didn’t tell anyone, and Tiffany’s started freaking out,” Gaga recalled, sharing that she went to hang out with Madonna. “And then I left, and I really wanted to go to Taco Bell, and then all of the sudden the car got pulled over by Tiffany’s security, and it was very politely removed from my neck.” Watch the interview above, and know that even Lady Gaga agrees all good nights should end at Taco Bell. Proof That Crop Tops Are For Everyone, and the Outfit Options Are Endless
May 29, 2020 at 09:36PM Crop tops are a funny thing – always there, always in style, but popular in different iterations each and every season. Even still, we don’t like to get rid of them because there are countless ways to wear them: over t-shirts, under oversize blazers, as part of a co-ord set, with high-rise denim, and the list goes on. Figuring out which type of crop top is best for your body type is key, and we have plenty of tips surrounding the matter at hand. We sourced some of our favorite street style stars – women with all different body types – to uncover some really strong, fashionable moments in crop tops and explain to you why they work, especially as the heart of the entire outfit at play. If you already own the basics when it comes to crop tops, like a fitted ribbed tank and a cute stretch tube top, I also provided you with some of my favorite styles available now, right after the jump. Personally, I’m taking a strong liking to bowling shirts that you can tie-up effortlessly and complete with a silk midi skirt and designs with floral prints and ruching for a subtle throwback to the ’90s. These $38 Comfy Biker Shorts Are the Best Investment I’ve Made For Summer So Far
May 29, 2020 at 09:05PM Biker shorts seem to be a dime a dozen these days, so how do you find the best ones? Well I went on a mission to find out. I started this shopping journey because as I’m staying at home I’ve been mostly rocking sweatpants and leggings. As the weather warms, and my small apartment doesn’t have air conditioning, I’m trying to stay cool. A pair of comfy biker seems like the right way to go; something I can mix and match with anything around my house and rock outside, too. After searching endlessly on the internet, I found nothing that was fitting my bill. I wanted a design that didn’t feel like workout clothes and was breathable. Eventually, I came across the Yummie Mel Cotton Stretch Shaping Biker Shorts ($38) and they sold me for a few reasons. Not only are they made from breathable cotton, but they’re also a flattering choice. The shorts feature a two-ply signature waistband that help to hold you in and control your mid-section. This makes me feel more secure than ever. But the one thing that makes my favorite is that they’re just so comfortable. The brand designed these shorts after its bestselling leggings. Made to slim your hips and keep you feeling your best, you just can’t go wrong with this affordable option. I find myself wearing them all day around the house, on walks outside, and running errands. If you’ve been on the hunt for your next
