24 Influencers Who Inspire Us to Be More Sustainable With Our Wardrobes

April 26, 2020 at 09:05AM We often find ourselves getting asked about sustainable fashion. What makes something sustainable? Is it vegan? Is it made from ethically derived materials? Is it fair-trade? Is it circular fashion? Is it simply getting genuine love and wear out of the things you buy? Well, it’s all of these things. However, we think the most important takeaway is the fact that questions about sustainability are being asked more frequently. This is proof that it’s very much at the forefront of the fashion discussion. A discussion which we are very proud to be a part of.  Most of us are trying to do our own small part to make the clothes we wear more sustainable, and influencers are certainly part of that movement, too. Today, we’re seeing a new wave of influencers championing vintage and secondhand pieces over new, as well as brands that operate with transparency when it comes to production lines and materials used. We don’t know about you, but we welcome more women like this on our feeds, which is why we set about rounding up sustainable fashion influencers we think you should follow. From those who have the ability to sniff out the perfect dress in a flea market to those who are on the frontline protesting climate change, we bring you 24 fashion influencers who inspire us in different ways to be more sustainable.  Emma is a sustainable force to be reckoned with. With a background spanning retail, branding and marketing, she’s best known for her work

Hands Down, This Is One of the Best Body Scrubs Around and It’s Only £12

April 26, 2020 at 06:00AM Can you believe that we’ve made it through five whole weeks of lockdown? I only ask because it’s hard to keep track of days right now—I had to actually count the days in a diary to work out how long it had been. It’s probably the most amount of consecutive time we’ve ever spent in our homes. For me, the hours have both dragged and gone incredibly fast and I seem to have lost all perspective of time without a “real” weekend to punctuate my working week. While I would usually spend some of Saturday or Sunday night painting my nails, plucking brows, and maybe even applying fake tan or a face mask, I’ve stopped doing all those small treats. Mainly because I’m not going out but also because I’m genuinely losing track of days. But starting from now, I’m going to make more of an effort. And what’s prompted me to have such a change of heart? Just this week I spotted Franks Body scrubs are now stocked on & Other Stories and I remembered what an incredible product it is.  The brand was originally launched in 2014 in Australia and has now gained a cult following by beauty editors and skincare obsessives. It’s formulated with coffee grinds, almond oil, vitamin E and sea salt and, while it smells delicious, it also gives your body a proper scrub and leaves it super smooth.  It’s natural and vegan-friendly and promises to help with breakouts, scars, cellulite and stretch

If You Want to Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable, This Is a Good Start

April 22, 2020 at 02:03PM There’s no denying that consumers are becoming more aware of their environmental impact. A report that was published by ZeroWaste in 2018 revealed that 120 billion units of packaging were being produced by the global cosmetics industry year on year. With statistics like that, it’s imperative and more important than ever that we consume beauty products mindfully. Thankfully, the beauty industry has been taking steps towards helping to create a cleaner and greener planet, with a host of sustainable beauty brands now available.   But first, when we discuss sustainable beauty products, what do we actually mean? Typically, the term is used to describe products using environmentally-friendly formulations, ethical production practices or packaging methods and, for sustainable cosmetic products in particular, the use of natural ingredients produced from renewable raw materials. Thankfully, finding these products is getting easier, thanks to a host of brands that are already pushing towards a more sustainable and greener planet. Ready to revamp your beauty cabinet and routine? Keep scrolling…  A beauty brand that has stood by their sustainable beliefs from the beginning, this brand never tests on animals, uses only sustainable plant ingredients and chooses recyclable or biodegradable packaging where possible. 19 Sustainable Brands Our Editors Champion Every Day of the Year

April 22, 2020 at 08:00AM Sustainable fashion can be confusing. Is it vegan? Ethically produced? Environmentally friendly? Fair-trade? Is it a catch-all term for anything that relates to fashion that isn’t fast? The short answer is that it can be all those things. The long answer is that it’s much more complicated than that. Sustainable fashion pertains to the sourcing, production and distribution of the garment. The lifespan of a piece of clothing must be looked at from start to finish. It means understanding that organic cotton is better than regular cotton, as it doesn’t use pesticides or harmful chemicals that are bad for the skin. Also, manmade fabrics (such as polyester) are damaging to the environment, as they’re often made from plastic and are nonbiodegradable. While leather can be eco-friendly, it can still impact the environment due to the chemicals used to finish it. Then there’s the production: Are the clothes being made in an environment that’s safe for workers? For example, some synthetic dyes can be toxic to people using them during the manufacturing process and can cause health problems. Adding to this, another good question to ask is if the workers are paid fairly and correctly. Then, once made, how far is the garment travelling? What kind of carbon footprint in the brand creating?  Elaine Welteroth in a Maggie Marilyn dress. All of these questions are vital if you want to know if a brand adheres to sustainable practices. And today on Earth Day it seems like a

According to Reviews, These $25-and-Under Face Masks Might Rival a $200 Facial

April 24, 2020 at 05:00AM Face masks are one of those pesky categories of skincare that practically beg us to pull out our credit cards and start swiping with zero abandon. Not only does packaging seem to get prettier and prettier (conveniently in tandem with our bank accounts getting tinier and tinier), but the benefits, technology, and overall allure of face masks are also increasing at a rapid rate. Ingredients are getting more exotic, and suddenly, the tempting nature of additions like crushed diamonds, 24-karat gold, exfoliating acids, superfoods—heck, even things like adaptogens and CBD—make forking over $50, $100, or even $200-plus seem like the norm. But of course, it doesn’t have to be. Sure, there are plenty heart-stoppingly expensive face masks we love and salivate over, but the quality of drugstore beauty offerings has also reached a steep incline in the past few years. For $25 and under, you can still satisfy your craving for lust-worthy ingredients like volcanic crystals, lavender oils, and manuka honey but at a fraction of the cost. We’re big fans of customizing your skincare routine so you’re getting the best, most bang-for-your-buck results regarding your skin concerns, and we’re here to tell you that there are some best-selling, high-quality drugstore formulas that we recommend (and use!) as beauty editors and that have the sky-scraping reviews to back them up. So if you’re looking to save some extra money this season, we recommend scrolling ahead to peruse 16 of the best drugstore face masks, sorted

The 5 Most Effective Healthy Eating Methods, According to a Nutritionist

April 23, 2020 at 06:44AM No industry is influenced by trends quite like health and wellness. We live in a world where one food group can be outlawed for an entire decade, a new wellness brand comes out every other day, and a single ingredient is declared “healthy” one minute and “unhealthy” the next. The sheer amount of advice, literature, and opinion permeating the health and wellness industry is enough to give anyone decision fatigue. That’s why we tapped clinical nutritionist Samantha Franceschini of Nutrition by Sam for her professional opinion on healthy eating methods. “Healthy eating can be very intimidating for people who are just starting out,” she told THE/THIRTY. “From working in clinical practice, I have found that different techniques work for different people, and the most successful clients are those who create a lifestyle rather than a diet.” Below, read up on what she believes to be the five most effective healthy eating methods for anyone looking to cut through the health trends and improve their lifestyle. Like countless other medical professionals, Franceschini is a fan of the Mediterranean diet. “Although I try to stray away from the word ‘diet’ and focus more on lifestyle, I always recommend [that] my clients start with a form of the Mediterranean diet, simply because it’s the most beneficial in creating a lifestyle change,” she says. As a refresher, the Mediterranean diet is built around plenty of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains, bread, seafood, and extra-virgin olive oil. Mediterranean diet devotees

I’ve Struggled With Acne for Years—These 11 Serums Are Actually Worth Your Money

April 23, 2020 at 05:00AM Cheers to clear and glowy skin. FYI—there are more than 430 face serums available at Sephora. At Dermstore? More than 650. Clearly, there is no shortage of covetable serums within the skincare-obsessed day and age we live in, but if you have certain kinds of skincare conditions like acne, finding the right formula that will help (not hurt) can be tricky. Some formulas might be too oily, which can exacerbate bumps and quickly cause pores to clog with buildup. Others might be aggressively laced with acids, exfoliants, and botanicals that just further irritate and worsen sensitive, breakout-prone skin types. I’ve struggled with adult acne for years now and have tried my fair share of acne serums. Sadly, only a large handful have actually helped. To combat whiteheads, blackheads, cystic breakouts, and beyond, I’m sharing 11 of the best acne serums below I swear by for a brighter and clearer 2020. Keep scrolling! This lightweight treatment gel from clean skincare brand Ren was a new discovery this year and one that left me super impressed. Not all acne serums have the gusto to tackle more stubborn textural issues like whiteheads and blackheads, but this one does so handily. It’s easy to layer with your other skincare products and features a skin-improving blend of 0.5% salicylic acid and prebiotic chlorella extract.  Swiss skincare brand Weleda is one of the most beloved lines in the industry, but, truth be told, most of its formulas have proven just a tad too rich for my congestion-prone complexion.

FYI: This Is How Our Beauty Editors Execute an Expert-Approved Facial at Home

April 23, 2020 at 05:00AM Giving yourself a celeb-caliber facial at home might sound intimidating, but we’re here to break the joyful news that it definitely doesn’t have to be. Sure, there are a number of steps involved and it’s definitely the kind of self-care ritual to indulge in when you have some extra time on your hands, but we’re fully convinced our at-home routine is *almost* as transformative as an in-office booking. (That said, you’ll save yourself a large booking fee and some painful extractions!) As beauty editors, Courtney and I are well-versed in the art of home facials. We’ve tested enough products, chatted up enough dermatologists, and experienced plenty of professional-level treatments to know how to re-create a truly indulgent glow-up from the comfort of our own homes. That said, to back our regimens with some extra expert guidance, I asked one of L.A.’s most sought-after celeb facialists, Candace Marino, to break down a 10/10 at-home experience step by step. Then, Courtney and I filled in the blanks with all the specific formulas we rely on no matter the state that stress, lack of sleep, or one too many glasses of wine throws our skin into. So take a deep breath, tap that diffuser, light a candle, turn on your humidifier, put together a playlist, and have at it. Your expert-led guide for how to execute the facial of all facials at home is just below. Keep scrolling! First and foremost, Marino says to start your at-home facial
