April 28, 2020 at 02:22AM When it comes to ’80s fashion, we have a (surprising) amount to be thankful for. While the decade previously hadn’t influenced our wardrobes for a long time, in recent years, we’ve come to the realisation that all the most current trends today are courtesy of the ’80s. Now, if you’re not too familiar with the nuances of this era, there are a few standout looks we’re sure you’ll recognise: big shoulders, white jeans, underwear as outerwear and oversized jewellery. It was the decade of the power dresser but also of punks. It gave us Madonna, Tina Turner and Cher, plus numerous other superstars whose sense of style influences many right now. Don’t believe us? From the fact that Princess Diana’s archive is inspiring some of the world’s most influential designers to the more basic resurgence in women wearing blazers with jeans again, we’ve found 35 A-list images that prove these ’80s fashion looks are as current now as they were then. Keep scrolling to click through our gallery of iconic ’80s outfits. Style Notes: This is classic ’80s Madonna, but the underwear/bodysuit look is bang on the money for now. You can forgo the pearls—just wear yours with some high-waisted jeans for a night out. Style Notes: As if we needed any more proof that Cher is the ultimate style queen, here was the star doing the naked dress before everyone was doing it at the Met Gala (and every other award show going). J.Lo’s Makeup Artist Cringes Every Time He Sees These 5 Mistakes
April 27, 2020 at 05:25PM It’s no secret that one of our favourite areas of exploration here at Who What Wear UK is the magic that is Jennifer Lopez. From her impossibly cool style to her mastery of aging and her general sassiness, we can’t get enough of Jenny From the Block. When it comes to her makeup, in particular, we’re in perpetual awe of the fact that she never seems to have an off day. It’s truly unreal, and that’s due in large part to her trusted makeup artist, Scott Barnes. Two decades painting famous faces such as Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian West have taught Barnes a thing or two about getting the look right, every single time. So when we heard the veteran beauty guru was adding a range of face and eye palettes to his eponymous cosmetics line, we knew each offering would be something special. In an effort to get closer to our goal of putting our best faces forward, we jumped at the chance to ask Barnes his opinion on the makeup mistakes that are holding us back from looking like J.Lo (you know, aside from our pesky DNA). Keep scrolling to discover the five mistakes that make him cringe, and learn what to do instead. “Hard contour lines are usually a sign that you are just following a trend and ignoring your own face. When I launched my second book with Kim Kardashian on the cover, who is widely known for contouring, I vocalised then that contour is about accentuating what is already there,” Barnes explains.
Hands Down, This Is Holly Willoughby’s Favourite Dress Brand Right Now
April 27, 2020 at 01:22PM While for many staying home has resulted in wearing and rewearing their favourite pair of joggers, the new normal hasn’t stopped Holly Willoughby from continuing to dress up. In fact, the TV host has maintained a very polished persona while appearing each day on her show This Morning. As usual, Willoughby has been appearing on our screens in a mixture of cheery hues and printed midi dresses, though there is one brand in particular that the star seems to be gravitating towards during these times, as over the last few weeks, she has worn several dresses by UK brand, Ghost. Known for their intricate prints and feminine florals, Ghost is a beloved go-to for many women thanks to their flattering styles and timeless silhouettes. Evidently, Willoughby agrees as this month alone she has worn the brand six times and counting. Not to mention, Holly Willoughby isn’t the only famous fan of the British label. Just last week the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton wore Ghost’s blue floral Anouk dress while partaking in the clap for our carers. Keep scrolling to see and shop Holly’s favourite Ghost dresses—several are no longer in swap, and so we have substituted those for a similar style. This Is the Most Divisive Leggings Trend, But I’m Into It
April 27, 2020 at 12:12PM It seems like there’s a new loungewear trend cropping up every day. Whether it’s a pair of cosy joggers or the newest legging trend there are plenty of trends that appeal to everyone. Well, we’re about to add yet another athleisure trend to your radar. Yoga unitards, activewear bodysuits, leotards—whatever you want to call them—they’re here and they’re happening. These one-pieces are like your favourite pair of leggings but taken to the next level for one head-to-toe spandex outfit that I can only really describe as, well, wild. We first covered the trend when we saw celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Alessandra Ambrosio replacing their leggings with bodysuits, both going with a black capri-length version from Beyond Yoga. Since then, more fashion girls have followed suit with pretty bodysuits from indie labels like Ernest Leoty, Tank Air and Gil Rodriguez that veer more into the fashion category than activewear. You just might wear one with knee boots and a chain belt à la Emily Ratajkowski. And, yes, her brand Inamorata carries a few of these fashion-y bodysuits. But hey, if the thought of wearing a bodysuit (and nothing layered over it) scares you, you’re not alone. It’s a rather divisive trend, to say the least. We’re well aware that the bodysuit trend is a polarising one, but we also want to point out that it doesn’t have to be as scary to wear as you’d think. Just add a pair of sneakers and a sweatshirt tied around your waist, and you have yourself a winning athleisure outfit. Ahead, shop the bodysuits that are coming for your legging collection,
These Are the 25 Prettiest Beauty Products for a Seriously Chic Dressing Table
April 27, 2020 at 06:30AM I’m not sure about you, but I get a huge amount of joy from using certain beauty products. Whether it be a super nourishing, luxurious body cream or a red lipstick that perfectly cushions the lips, certain products just have that special touch. It makes sense therefore, that in times like these, I’m turning to such products more so than ever in a bid to lift my spirits. Similarly, with spending more time at home than I’m used to, I have also been finding ways to inject some joy into my surroundings. And, after several homeware orders, I’m actually starting to run out of space. So last week, as I perused my beauty shelves, I had a eureka moment. Instead of keeping all of my most beautiful, mood-lifting beauty products behind closed doors to experience one once or twice a week, why not keep them out on display for all of the world to see (well, just me for now)? With the rise of social media platforms like Instagram, aesthetics and packaging have a bigger role to play than ever when it comes to the success of a beauty product, and I’m not complaining. As every new launch gets prettier and prettier, it seems such a waste to hide them, no? So, if you like the idea of your beauty products doubling up as chic ornaments for your dressing table, keep scrolling. Looking at These 28 Blonde Bobs Made Me Cut My Hair
April 27, 2020 at 06:30AM Being experimental with your hair doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to go all-out with new hues, statement fringing, or lashings of layers. Often, the simplest switches make the most impact. Right now, as our strands continue to grow without the prospect of a cut any time soon, it seems everyone is busy dreaming of and mood boarding potential styles to opt for once the salons are back up and running. And, with more time to ponder on and weigh up the pros of a dramatic change, I thought it might be worth sharing my recent experience in hope it might inspire some of you. You see, I recently chopped off my lengthy blonde hair to join the bob brigade. A few months back, after researching for a feature on blunt bob hairstyles, I convinced myself to go for the chop, which was masterfully created by session stylist Jenn Linton of Linton & Mac. My new blonde bob makes its debut. And guess what? I’ve found it to be one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. Not only does my new blonde bob take half the drying time that it used to, but somehow, it also makes everything I wear look significantly cooler. I’m not the only one who sings the blonde bob’s praises. Keep scrolling to see the best blonde bob hairstyles on influencers and A-listers alike. The Designer Bags That We Really Love for 2020
April 27, 2020 at 06:29AM Fashion trends and key buys tend to be mapped out at least six months in advance, so we can with some authority tell you the designer handbags that will dominate in 2020, and it’s a lot more than just guesswork. Of course, cult buys and new brands can emerge at any moment surprising even the most seasoned of fashion buyers and editors, but there are certain new styles that I guarantee we’ll be talking about as hero buys of 2020 next December. There’s a new handbag from Chanel that might just become as iconic as the legendary 2.55 bag, and Bottega Veneta is set to have a year just as golden as the last. Every buyer I speak to tells me they just can’t order enough Bottega bags. Perhaps a more surprising it bag is the pearl handbag by Simone Rocha, which is destined for sell-out status, while Katie Holmes’s favourite label Khaite has released a practical tote that makes teeny-tiny mini bags look sillier than ever. A mood we are seeing across the fashion world for S/S 20 is a desire for classic, timeless pieces, and fashion houses like Gucci and Celine are definitely applying this approach to their accessories department, delving through the archive to create handbags that will be just as loved in 2020 as they would in 1950. Keep scrolling to see the new handbags from Chanel, Gucci, Bottega Veneta and more. The Chanel 19 bag might be named after 2019, as
14 Vegan Leather Pieces You’ll Wear All Year Long
April 27, 2020 at 06:06AM It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what defines a fashion item as “trending” in 2020. Usually, it’s a combination of factors, including runway presence, street style presence, and of course, popularity across the social media. Though, thankfully, search engines such as Lyst exist, which are able to provide concrete evidence about an item’s popularity through search queries and statistics. Interestingly enough, recently Lyst revealed that “vegan leather” has undergone a drastic increase in interest, as the platform revealed that searches for the term have increased 69% year on year. Lyst’s annual Conscious Fashion Report, further explained that the term now garners an average of 33,100 online searches monthly. And there’s no disputing those statistics. With figures like that, here at Who What Wear thought it was high-time we compiled an edit of the best vegan leather pieces available, spanning designer brands, such as Stella McCartney, contemporary labels, such as Nanuska, and high-street brands, including Free People. Of course, it’s important to note that while vegan leather is an ethical choice, many vegan leathers are created from PU which is a type of plastic. However, many brands are working to create vegan leather in a more sustinable way, and as Lyst notes, this is also important to consumers as searches for the term “eco vegan leather” have also increased throughout the last year. It’s Not Easy—but You Can Cut Your Own Hair If It’s Curly
April 27, 2020 at 06:00AM That itch you’re feeling? Yeah, I know the one. I’ve felt it too and I’ve been trying to fight it for so long. I am, of course, talking about cutting your hair while in lockdown. While scores of men (and some women) might just be whipping out the clippers for an all-over grade 3 cut, those of us with longer hair don’t have it quite so simple. Add curly hair to that mix and you’ve got yourself a home haircut that could go dramatically wrong. As someone who has been blessed with wavier-than-average hair, I can’t tell you the amount of terrible haircuts I have had over the years. However, after some disastrous looks during my early teens (a v choppy Rachel Green-style bob is not a good idea for curls), I realised that I just needed to find a hairdresser that knew what they were doing to make the most of my natural hair. But as we are in isolation mode so that means who knows when we’ll all next get to a hairdressers. I did what any journalist and someone desperate for a haircut would do—I spoke to an expert. George Northwood to be exact. That’s right, I spoke to Meghan Markle’s hairdstylist (and also Alexa Chung’s) on what us curly-haired people need to consider when attempting the at-home cut. Keep scrolling for Northwood’s tips before you even consider whipping out the scissors. “Before you do anything, you need to to ask yourself ‘Do I
