April 26, 2020 at 05:30PM The last time I had my hair coloured was mid-December and I was due a trip to the salon in the coming few weeks for a top up. With any chance of said trip firmly on hold for a while, I’ve been looking into different ways I can make my current colour situation work for me. I’ve been inundated by messages from friends and family begging me for any tips on what to do about their own roots too. And the truth is, unless you’re brave enough to try a box dye (proceed with caution), there’s really very little you can do other than style the regrowth out as best you can. From plaits to buns and ponytails to flowing waves, keep scrolling for the very best ways to style hair in order to help disguise your roots. Especially when working from home, there really is no better get-stuff-done hairstyle. The topknot is the chic yet easy style that most of us will turn to in times of need. But it turns out, a topknot doesn’t just have to be the thrown-up, scruffy style we know it to be. In fact, it can be incredibly stylish, all while helping to reduce the appearance of root contrast. John Vial, global influencer for Revlon Professional, explains that by bringing grown-out lengths to the front of the bun, you can create the illusion of more colour. He explains, “For those with long hair, pull your hair up into a pony and wrap leaving four or

This Is the One Pair of Jeans French Women Are Wearing in 2020
April 26, 2020 at 05:05PM What is it about French women and jeans? They always get it right. I have my own theory about why they manage to nail it constantly when it comes to denim: They don’t invest in fads or passing trends and only pick the styles that will have longevity in their wardrobes. And if it ticks a current trend off too? C’est fantastique. While I’ve lived in the country, I, sadly, don’t possess the style know-how of the French woman. To understand just how they get it right when choosing jeans, I turned to Morgane Sézalory, founder of label Sézane, on which style Parisians are after right now. According to Sezalory, the biggest denim trend for 2020 is actually no trend at all. As I mentioned above, my theory is that the trick to finding jeans commes les Françaisesis to not look at trends, and she confirms this: “I’d say instead of falling for the latest fashion trend, French women prefer their collection of trustworthy essentials. A good pair of jeans is one of them. I can’t speak for all women, but I think this year French women will be reaching for timeless styles which outlive trends.” However, I wanted to know if French women wanted to get on the skinny-jean bandwagon, as we’ve seen them come back around again. “The perfect slim jean is a wardrobe essential that flatters most body types,” says Sezalory. “And French women really love an effortless style! The style tends to have a perfectly balanced
6 Flat Shoes That Are Almost as Comfortable as Slippers
April 26, 2020 at 02:50PM This week at home, I am alternating between two pairs of shoes: my sparkly Ugg slippers and my Marks and Spencer ballet pumps that I’d argue are just as comfortable as the former. I’ve found myself wearing my ballet flats in working hours in an effort to “still get dressed” in the mornings without compromising on comfort. When it comes to spring flats, there are six styles in particular that are comfortable but still have the same chuck-on appeal of an old pair of slippers. Admittedly, several of the pairs on this list will require a period for breaking in, but once you have softened the leather on your flip-flops and loafers and your feet have adjusted to the shift to sandals from boots, they’ll be shoes you can walk 10,000 steps in. On this list, you’ll find shoes that will span several different price brackets. My £35 M&S shoes are without a doubt the comfiest things I’ve ever put on my feet (I have three pairs), and I’ve also included some favourites at the higher end, such as Proenza Shouler’s collaboration with Birkenstock and Gucci’s iconic loafers. Keep scrolling for the six styles of flats that I think are just as comfy as slippers. Ballet pumps are perhaps the comfiest flats you can find, and ones with an almond toe and high-cut silhouette look particularly elevated. Loafers can be tricky to wear in, but once you soften the leather, they’ll be comfortable flats you’ll treasure for years. Sturdy, chunky sandals, such as Birkenstocks and
24 Influencers Who Inspire Us to Be More Sustainable With Our Wardrobes
April 26, 2020 at 09:05AM We often find ourselves getting asked about sustainable fashion. What makes something sustainable? Is it vegan? Is it made from ethically derived materials? Is it fair-trade? Is it circular fashion? Is it simply getting genuine love and wear out of the things you buy? Well, it’s all of these things. However, we think the most important takeaway is the fact that questions about sustainability are being asked more frequently. This is proof that it’s very much at the forefront of the fashion discussion. A discussion which we are very proud to be a part of. Most of us are trying to do our own small part to make the clothes we wear more sustainable, and influencers are certainly part of that movement, too. 11 Products That Give Back—From T-Shirts to Holly Willoughby’s Knit
April 26, 2020 at 08:58AM In the midst of the COVID-19 global crisis, it is always heart-warming to see the people, brands and companies that step forward in an effort to help make a difference. Whether it be doctors coming out of retirement to support the NHS or friendly local neighbours helping to deliver groceries to those in need, the uplifting stories that emerge during these times help us all to retain perspective that there are still positive things happening in the world. When it comes to fashion, several brands have also stepped up in an effort to do their bit, creating initiatives to donate profits to the NHS and other worthy causes. One such example is Chinti & Parker. The brand created a specific Hearts for the NHS range, which vows to donate 100% of profits to the Meals for the NHS charity. Holly Willoughby has already shown her support, posting a jumper from the collection to her Instagram. While other brands including Rixo, Sandro and more have also created specific products whose sales will go to benefiting the NHS and other global charities. Some brands—including Cefinn and Palmer Harding—have taken an alternate route, instead pledging to donate a portion of any product sold on their website to charity. There is absolutely no denying that times are tough right now, but seeing the way various brands are vowing to help has certainly made me feel a little brighter. 10 Easy Ways You Can Make Your Wardrobe A Little More Sustainable
April 26, 2020 at 08:41AM This week it has been Fashion Revolution Week, which is a movement which has for the past seven years been calling for an improvement in sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry. In order to reverse some of the startling statistics about clothing waste, we all need to be more conscious of what we are buying, however, it can be confusing to know where to begin to make our wardrobes more sustainable because there are a lot of complexities. But if you want to start taking steps to make your wardrobe more considered, what are the fashion equivalents of buying a reusable bottle and using metal straws instead of plastic ones? “Consumer-facing coverage of sustainability often focuses on either disastrous environmental and ethical news or future purchasing behaviour, which can leave us feeling either powerless to make a difference as an individual or confused about where to start,” sustainability expert Brooke Roberts-Islam of Techstyler says. There are, however, small changes which are a step in the right direction—from the things to look out for on clothing labels to how you should actually be washing your clothes. I spoke to nine people who are inciting change in the fashion industry this year to discover their easy tips for making your wardrobe more sustainable. “My top tips for becoming a more sustainable consumer are to wash your clothes less— research by the Energy Saving Trust has shown that laundering accounts for 60–80% of a garment’s total environmental impact,
It’s Only April—but These Are Already the Sandals of 2020
April 26, 2020 at 07:05AM Every summer, there’s a standout sandal style that seems to be just about everywhere. Two years ago, it was The Row’s barely-there strappy sandals, and last year Bottega Veneta’s square-toe mules were ubiquitous amongst the fashion set. And while spring/summer 2020 has only just begun, already this year we’re seeing one key footwear style start to emerge as the frontrunner for shoe of the season. Yes, it may only be April and we might be spending much less time in shoes, but platform flip flops have already started showing up all over our social media feeds, solidifying themselves as the style of summer. The Row can once again certainly be credited for sparking the return of these ’90s shoes, thanks to its £700 luxury leather iteration, which have been worn by Monikh, Lucy Williams and Brittany Bathgate. Lucy Williams wearing the Ginza flip flops by The Row. If these flip flops feel familiar, it’s because they featured in many 90s teenage shows and films—Julia Stiles wore a similar pair in the cult film 10 Things I Hate About You. They also look like they are straight from a Mary Kate and Ashley straight-to-VHS film from the ’90s. Monikh wearing the Ginza flip flops by The Row. Shoes of this style have unsurprisingly also started to pop up across contemporary and high-street brands. Neous have created their own flip flops, featuring a unique wooden platform detail, while Mango have also jumped on the trend offering a heeled version of
7 Spring Dress Trends That Feel Fresh for 2020
April 26, 2020 at 06:34AM While flowers blooming and birds chirping are usually the first indications that spring is here, in the fashion industry we use a slightly different metric. The arrival of new spring collections is what signals the end of winter for fashion editors, as brightly coloured skirts and sleeveless dresses begin appearing online. We saw several trends emerge from the S/S 20 runways, including crochet dresses and those that featured unique cutouts. While more wearable staples including puff-sleeve dresses, polka-dot dresses and polo-neck dresses were equally as popular. Minimalism reigned again thanks to Bottega Veneta, while maximalists were accounted for with voluminous tiered dresses which appeared at Christopher Kane and Molly Goddard. Interestingly enough, several of the season’s biggest dress trends are often used in conjunction with each other. For example, Asceno has released a tiered dress with polka dots on it, while Ephemera puff-sleeve dress also featured cutouts. It’s a have your cake and eat it too, kind of situation this spring. Keep scrolling for a closer look at spring’s biggest dress trends. It’s official, the puff sleeve isn’t going anywhere. We loved this trend last year, and according to the spring 2020 runways, the look is here to stay. Spotted at Valentino, Khaite, Mara Hoffman and Brock Collection (to name a few), it seems we’ll all be wearing exaggerated sleeves again. Thanks to Bottega Veneta and The Row leading the way, minimalism has remained on our radar. Where dresses are concerned, this translates to solid colours in interesting shapes
