May 03, 2020 at 03:00PM When it comes to classic pairings (I’m talking tea and biscuits or boots and dresses), I’d argue that celebrities and glowing skin are pretty high on the power-couple scale. Let’s face it—you rarely see an A-lister step foot outside the house without a majorly luminous complexion to boot. But without access to the best facialists in the business, is it actually possible for us regular folk to create a celebrity level of glow at home? Turns out, yes. Yes, it is, thanks in huge part to Sienna Miller’s makeup artist Wendy Rowe spilling the beans on the exact products that she uses to create Sienna’s signature glow. For me, Sienna has always been a huge hair muse, but it’s only recently that I’ve started noticing how incredibly radiant her complexion is too. Last weekend, she stepped out with her skin looking next-level glowy as she took to the red carpet for the premiere of her new film American Woman. Celebrity makeup artist Wendy Rowe took to Instagram after the event to reveal how she created the look. Her advice? “To get great makeup, you need to start with great skin prep.” And there’s one brand in particular that holds the key to Sienna’s glowing skin: Pai Skincare. “I’ve loved using Pai Skincare with Sienna,” said Rowe. “It’s natural, certified organic, vegan and cruelty-free.” This all means you don’t have to rely on harsh acids or dermatology-standard facials in your quest for luminosity. May 03, 2020 at 01:00PM Edmonton’s Buff Wax Spot has released an at-home wax kit that gives back to charity With beauty salon services still shuttered, many of us have been forced to take our personal grooming matters – like long-lasting hair removal – into our own hands. I’ve Worked in Fashion for 9 Years, and These Are the Brands I Truly Champion
May 03, 2020 at 07:15AM As an editor at Who What Wear, I typically spend a lot of time looking at new-in products, and so every month, I update this story with the pieces that have caught my eye or that I have saved to my wish list. This year life has changed in a way none of us could have possibly imagined, with new financial strains placed on many that make the idea of updating this straight-forward shopping gallery filled with shoes, dresses and designer handbags feel jarring. I certainly don’t want anyone to feel like they have to buy more right now in a time of such heightened worry, but at the same time, after working in the fashion industry for nine years, I also want to support the brands that I really love and treasure. Fashion critic Vanessa Friedman’s piece on shopping online in a pandemic has been widely shared this week, and there is one section, in particular, that has really stuck with me: “Shopping now is as much a moral as a consumer question. Where you spend your money matters. Before you buy, think: What is this about? It could be about helping save a generation of small designers and independent businesses.” So for the time being, instead of a straight-forward new-in edit, I will update this story with pieces from the brands I have loved and supported, either over the past year or since I was an intern. As several warehouses and stores have shuttered, the fashion industry
I Think This Is the Coolest French Brand—and It’s Affordable
May 03, 2020 at 07:00AM Hi, I’m a fashion journalist, and I’m a total cliché. My offence? I really, really love French fashion brands. Of course, there are the greats such as Chanel, Saint Laurent, Hermès, Celine and Dior that will always be the dream to own and wear. But it’s not just the legendary old-school fashion houses that inspire me. It’s also the more contemporary designers that I love, such as Jacquemus and Isabel Marant. However, there’s no escaping the fact that all the above labels are not exactly budget-friendly. It’s great, then, that Musier came along to fill the hole of more affordable French fashion brands. Launched in 2018, the label was created by Anne-Laure Mais, who is also often spotted wearing the pieces on her Instagram feed. The signature style is Parisian but with a sassy edge—think cropped cardigans, front-tied blouses, and midi dresses that show off just the right amount of décolletage. Right now, there are plenty of pieces you can get your hands on (some even on sale on ASOS) and are ideal for the coming warmer months. Personally, I’m drawn to the lime-green cardigan embellished with faux-pearl buttons. If this all sounds like something you’re into, I suggest you keep scrolling and see more, tout suite! This Pretty Top Will Always Be a Summer Staple
May 03, 2020 at 06:06AM There are some items that just embody the season they are created for. A woollen cable-knit jumper is the ultimate winter staple, while a floral wrap dress practically screams spring. Where summer is concerned, there are few things that represent the season quite like a tasteful cropped puff-sleeve top. Often created in crisp cotton or airy linen fabrics, a crop top embodies summer in all of its warm-weather glory. And although the season has yet to officially start, this year we’ve already spotted a puff-sleeve crop top that is sure to become a summer favourite. Already worn by the likes of Monikh and Lucy Williams, Musier Paris’s Carrie top practically has summer written all over it. Complete with a mid-sleeve length, gathering around the arm and intricate lace trim details, the 100% cotton top has certainly solidified itself as a favourite of the season. Styled alongside wide-leg trousers or classic blue jeans, Musier’s crop is a summer staple that will stay in your wardrobe for years to come, easily dressed up or down depending on your mood or the occasion. Keep scrolling to see how the style set is wearing the item, and shop crop tops below. Style Notes: Monikh styles Musier’s crop top alongside wide-leg culottes and The Row’s ever-popular leather sandals. Style Notes: Lucy Williams offers a casual take on the style, pairing the top with high-waisted jeans and flat sandals. 16 Colourful Outfits I Have Really Loved This Month
May 03, 2020 at 06:00AM In difficult times fashion can seem a little trivial and is hardly high on anyone’s list of priorities. In the first few weeks of staying at home, many of us lived in comfortable basics, and stopped getting dressed properly. You’ve got to do what helps you through these times—so if you want to wear a dressing gown and slippers to take the bins out, then go for it, but others might find some comfort in wearing a ballgown to do their chores. Clothes can impact your mood and make you feel ready for the day ahead, and so it’s unsurprising that on week six of lockdown many are returning to the clothes that make them feel happy. The one uplifting styling trick I keep seeing people turn to at the moment is experimenting with playful colour combinations. Last month, many participated in the #instarainbowchallenge—an Instagram movement which people wore jolly, vibrant outfits for one week. Colour can however be intimidating to many, and so to help give you some ideas for how to wear bolder shades, here are some of our favourite vibrant outfits we’ve spotted this month. Style Notes: Just because you’re in your PJs doesn’t mean you can’t play with colour—this pink Yolke silk set is as punchy as PJs get. Style Notes: Perhaps the easiest way to wear colour is to opt for a jolly printed midi dress. Style Notes: Accessories are a great way to add colour, and these Arizona Love trekking velcro sandals will liven up any outfit. Style Notes: Playsuits and
The Unexpected Place I’m Getting All of My Outfit Inspo From This Summer
May 03, 2020 at 05:00AM While it is certainly low on the priority list right now, as a fashion editor, there is something a little sad about not being able to stroll along the streets of London and add to my mental portfolio of outfit inspiration via the well-dressed individuals that pass me by. It’s one of the lovely things about living and working in a city known for its eclecticism and creativity. So in the meantime, I just have to make do with the avenues available to me. Of course, there are the usual go-tos such as Instagram and Pinterest, which provide endless fashion cues for my summer wardrobe. However, there is one category I use which might surprise some people, and that’s e-commerce sites. Not all platforms are made equal, obviously, but I’ve found that certain brands have really perfected their model shot styling game, and for me, it essentially presents an opportunity to gather dressing hacks from a professional stylist, who probably spent hours putting these looks together. I have even been known to search for specific items that I need ideas for. For example, when I bought white jeans last year and needed some guidance, I searched for white jeans on Net-a-Porter’s site, and voilà: ready-made outfits. Try it next time you scroll through your fave online store. Recently, I’ve been particularly appreciating Mango’s spring/summer outfits, many of which toe the line between accessible and high-end, and comfortable and cool so well. Scroll down to see the five outfits that have piqued my interest this season. Up Next: The Complete
