April 28, 2020 at 10:21AM Last fall, we discovered this simple collection of kitchen and tableware pieces from Our Place. (Read our gushing review!) Now that it’s spring and we’re all home cooking more than ever, we can think of no better Mother’s Day gift. Just because we’re stuck at home and facing uncertain times, doesn’t mean that Mom’s Day should get swept aside. We’re finding ways to celebrate, from family Zoom dinners to celebratory deliveries in support of our favorite local restaurants. We just launched our Spring Shop last week and definitely had Mother’s Day in mind, but the below curation is especially giftable. A few favorites? The rattan market cart would be so fun to fill with fresh bread, flowers or farmer’s market goodies, left on her doorstep. Moms with young children might appreciate Saie’s new Glowy Super Gel for an effortless, natural layer of glow in lieu of makeup. We’ve sworn for years that jumpsuits are the best gift for besties and we can’t think of a mother we know who wouldn’t fall in love with the ones below. If budget is top of mind right now, explore our list of charming DIYs that would make great gifts and possibly even better memories like these naturally dyed goods, floral smudge sticks and vintage denim goods. And don’t forget to bake a cake! Back to Our Place, there are Mother’s Day offers available from the brand and we’re loving them for moms of all ages. Our Place’s signature piece is the

Everything You Need to Know Before Cutting Your Own Bangs
April 28, 2020 at 05:43PM It’s week seven of social distancing, and chances are that your boredom is beginning to reach its peak. So much so, that many of us are considering cutting our own bangs it would seem – according to Pinterest, searches on how to cut your own bangs are up a huge 102 per cent. Bella Hadid recently cut her own, and I’m almost 100 per cent positive one of your friends already has but the question remains, should you? To find out if it’s possible to give yourself a new look and not immediately regret it, I reached out to Canadian hairstylist Kirsten Klontz. Before you pick up the scissors, here’s what she had to say: OK first things first, is it possible to cut your own bangs and not immediately regret your decision? Yes of course! It is definitely less of a risk if you already have bangs that are a bit grown out and you are just looking to trim them. If you are considering a big change on your own – do your research on styles, maybe even DM your hairstylist for a second opinion. Hair is something that is an expressive extension of your personality and it’s fun to change it. For anyone considering cutting their own bangs, what is your advice for them? Please put down those kitchen scissors – it’s better that you use a shear that has a fine point for better precision. You can find a variety of
17 Outdated Beauty Trends That Are Suddenly Cool Again
April 28, 2020 at 04:56PM It products come and go—we know this. But when certain trends from our schooldays suddenly become cool again, we can’t help but be excited. The cosy feelings of nostalgia are a force to be reckoned with, so you can’t imagine how happy we are to witness the return of hair accessories we glorified thanks to the Spice Girls and those jars of body glitter we once hoarded from Claire’s. We’re very much embracing the trending onslaught of products previously dubbed outdated, and right now, there are a lot of them. From nail and hair trends to makeup and skincare must-haves, there has been a resurgence in outdated beauty trends. In fact, brown lipstick and butterfly-bedecked strands are practically taking over our Instagram feeds (and by association, our shopping carts). To celebrate—and because we’re secretly hoping they never fall back out of vogue—we’re highlighting all the must-try viral beauty trends we previously considered outdated. Keep scrolling! Sure, the crimped-hair trend has taken on more of a beachy (versus small and compact) identity in 2020, but the resurgence of crisp mermaid bends and S-wave hot tools is impossible to ignore. We don’t have to remind you of how important your collection of glitter-crusted rainbow butterfly clips was back on the playground in primary school. But we are here to remind you that a more subdued take on the outdated trend is currently blowing up on IG in the prettiest and most whimsical of ways. Hairstylist Justine Marjan created this mesmerising look
Self-Isolation Diary: A Day in the Life of Olympian Sarah Nurse
April 28, 2020 at 03:14PM As people around the country enter their seventh week of self-isolation, FASHION is reaching out to some of our favourite Canadians to get a peek into how they’re living their lives in lockdown (remember: #StayHomeSaveLives). Each week, keep an eye out for new self-isolation diaries from actors, designers, athletes and artists who are riding this uncertain time out with us. Sarah Nurse, ice hockey player and Olympic medalist Whenever something major happens in the world on a macro level, it hits home differently for every person. For me, the pandemic turned my world upside down on March 7th. I was in Arizona when we got the news that our Women’s World Hockey Championship was going to be cancelled. We were devastated, we had prepared and worked so hard on the ice, but we had also been working tirelessly off the ice. Our professional hockey league folded 12 months ago, leaving us with nowhere to play. So 200 of the best female hockey players in the world came together as the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA), where we are fighting for equality and to create a professional hockey league for future generations of females to dream of playing in. Where we get paid a liveable wage, have more media exposure and have the resources and infrastructure in place to be truly professional (much like the WNBA and the NHL). The World Championship was going to be on home soil in Halifax, NS and we were
