J.Lo’s Makeup Artist Cringes Every Time He Sees These 5 Mistakes

April 27, 2020 at 05:25PM It’s no secret that one of our favourite areas of exploration here at Who What Wear UK is the magic that is Jennifer Lopez. From her impossibly cool style to her mastery of aging and her general sassiness, we can’t get enough of Jenny From the Block. When it comes to her makeup, in particular, we’re in perpetual awe of the fact that she never seems to have an off day. It’s truly unreal, and that’s due in large part to her trusted makeup artist, Scott Barnes. Two decades painting famous faces such as Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian West have taught Barnes a thing or two about getting the look right, every single time. So when we heard the veteran beauty guru was adding a range of face and eye palettes to his eponymous cosmetics line, we knew each offering would be something special. In an effort to get closer to our goal of putting our best faces forward, we jumped at the chance to ask Barnes his opinion on the makeup mistakes that are holding us back from looking like J.Lo (you know, aside from our pesky DNA). Keep scrolling to discover the five mistakes that make him cringe, and learn what to do instead.  “Hard contour lines are usually a sign that you are just following a trend and ignoring your own face. When I launched my second book with Kim Kardashian on the cover, who is widely known for contouring, I vocalised then that contour is about accentuating what is already there,” Barnes explains.

Here’s How to Grow and Maintain a Beard the Right Way

April 27, 2020 at 04:05PM Attention fellas: are you embracing a beard during this time of house-bound isolation? Whether you’re growing your facial hair out for the first time or refreshing the look of existing face follicles, there are certain steps that separate an awesome beard from a shaggy and unruly-looking one. Here, Matty Conrad, award-winning barber and founder of B.C. -based Victory Barber & Brand, lays down some key ground rules for how to grow a beard, and maintain it, that are worth following at home. Master barber Matty Conrad Know the basic anatomy of a beard and observe how your hair grows: “There are two parts to every beard: The girth, growth or the interior of the beard. That’s basically how thick, how long or how full it is. And then there is the outline. Your outline is essentially what creates the shape. The shape of your beard — the outline you decide to go with — is going to be somewhat dependent on the beard growth itself. Where does it naturally grow thick? Is it thick all over? Is it patchy on some areas? This is the first thing to figure out as far as going for a shape.” Be patient: “When you’re growing your beard for the first time, you want to let it grow for about 3 to 4 weeks to give it a really strong outline.” Invest in the right tools: “When your beard is short, all you need to do is keep the

Leather Accessories Label Sonya Lee is Now Offering Signature Styles in Smaller Sizes

April 27, 2020 at 02:00PM Since its introduction in 2014, Sonya Lee — the brand founded by Stephanie Ibbitson, who recently relocated to Vancouver from Toronto — has become known for its sleek modern handbags and accessories featuring elements like metal chains. Crafted from leather that’s a by-product of the food industry and primarily sourced in North America (and all but one type of leather used is biodegradable), the materials Ibbitson works with aren’t inexpensive—as most high-quality things aren’t. But at a time when many of her friends and others around the world are being laid off or finding their work hours reduced, Ibbitson realized there was a need to create the kind of exceptional product she specializes in at a lower price point. “I was talking to my mum and my grandpa in March,” she recalls. “And he mentioned how during the depression, he remembers his mum not being able to afford certain things but she would still want to feel special.” Ibbitson set out to translate some of her most cherished styles in half-sizes, allowing customers to treat themselves to a piece that would quickly become a wardrobe staple without overextending their budget. Photography courtesy of Sonya Lee. The Half Rosa — named after Rosa Halpern, founder of the Toronto-based leather jacket brand Namesake — is a take on Sonya Lee’s covetable boxy backpack, and the Half Jess is a petite belt bag that’s perfect for essential-getting outings. Ibbitson has also introduced a selection of styles priced around

Hands Down, This Is Holly Willoughby’s Favourite Dress Brand Right Now

April 27, 2020 at 01:22PM While for many staying home has resulted in wearing and rewearing their favourite pair of joggers, the new normal hasn’t stopped Holly Willoughby from continuing to dress up. In fact, the TV host has maintained a very polished persona while appearing each day on her show This Morning.  As usual, Willoughby has been appearing on our screens in a mixture of cheery hues and printed midi dresses, though there is one brand in particular that the star seems to be gravitating towards during these times, as over the last few weeks, she has worn several dresses by UK brand, Ghost.  Known for their intricate prints and feminine florals, Ghost is a beloved go-to for many women thanks to their flattering styles and timeless silhouettes. Evidently, Willoughby agrees as this month alone she has worn the brand six times and counting. Not to mention, Holly Willoughby isn’t the only famous fan of the British label. Just last week the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton wore Ghost’s blue floral Anouk dress while partaking in the clap for our carers. Keep scrolling to see and shop Holly’s favourite Ghost dresses—several are no longer in swap, and so we have substituted those for a similar style.  Next up, the biggest S/S 20 fashion trends you need to know.  Author Zoe Anastasiou | Whowhatwear Selected by CWC

This Is the Most Divisive Leggings Trend, But I’m Into It

April 27, 2020 at 12:12PM It seems like there’s a new loungewear trend cropping up every day. Whether it’s a pair of cosy joggers or the newest legging trend there are plenty of trends that appeal to everyone. Well, we’re about to add yet another athleisure trend to your radar. Yoga unitards, activewear bodysuits, leotards—whatever you want to call them—they’re here and they’re happening. These one-pieces are like your favourite pair of leggings but taken to the next level for one head-to-toe spandex outfit that I can only really describe as, well, wild. We first covered the trend when we saw celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Alessandra Ambrosio replacing their leggings with bodysuits, both going with a black capri-length version from Beyond Yoga. Since then, more fashion girls have followed suit with pretty bodysuits from indie labels like Ernest Leoty, Tank Air and Gil Rodriguez that veer more into the fashion category than activewear. You just might wear one with knee boots and a chain belt à la Emily Ratajkowski. And, yes, her brand Inamorata carries a few of these fashion-y bodysuits. But hey, if the thought of wearing a bodysuit (and nothing layered over it) scares you, you’re not alone. It’s a rather divisive trend, to say the least. We’re well aware that the bodysuit trend is a polarising one, but we also want to point out that it doesn’t have to be as scary to wear as you’d think. Just add a pair of sneakers and a sweatshirt tied around your waist, and you have yourself a winning athleisure outfit. Ahead, shop the bodysuits that are coming for your legging collection,

hi from the land of DIY

April 27, 2020 at 11:44AM Hi friends! Happy Monday! I think it’s Monday? It’s so weird how the days seem to all blend together. I hope your weekend brought you some peace and relaxation. Ours was packed with projects but we made time for ice cream, tent night in the living room, and some family walks. Friday afternoon, I finished putting together a gallery wall in the living room and was like, “Let’s get the paint for the cabinets!” Before you could say, “Lowes is the equivalent of Black Friday madness” we were covered in paint splatters: deglossing, priming, and painting. (In all seriousness though, Lowe’s was BANANAS. The Pilot wore a mask and was the only one who went inside, while the girls and I waited in the car, but I couldn’t believe the parking lot. I guess a lot of people are tackling home improvement projects while we’re stuck at home.) I’ve had some requests to do a full post on the process, so I’ll definitely post the details when everything is finished. I will say that it takes 1400 years but the results are SO worth it. It’s already brightened up the kitchen and I can’t wait to see the final product! I took a break from painting to drop off a baby gift to a friend, and wore real clothes for 3 whole hours. Cool sock tan, bro. (Dress is here! It’s $40 and such an awesome summer staple. I have a striped one and black

8 Simple Ways To Naturally De-Stress At Home

April 27, 2020 at 11:23AM It might seem extra or as though there is nothing that will really help. But, trust us when we say that when stress levels are peaking a few of these calming strategies from Food Matters can provide major relief. Pretend you have a schedule and pencil these de-stress at home activities into your calendar this week…  Turn Up The Heat | Warmth relaxes muscle tension and can lower anxiety naturally. It is believed that heat may impact the neural circuitry that influences mood and increase our levels of the ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitter called serotonin. Plus, being warm can just feel downright comforting. You don’t need to live in the desert to feel this benefit. There are many alternative ways to de-stress with heat! You may enjoy a hot tea, sauna, exercise, spa, an enticing patch of sunlight, a cozy fireplace, a comforting hot water bottle or a warm bath filled with relaxing essential oils. If it’s warm and feels good, chances are it’s helping you to de-stress! Move Your Body | Exercise is a natural antidote to stress and anxiety. Raising your heart rate instantly increases blood circulation, oxygenates your brain and gets those feel-good endorphins pumping! Furthermore, exercise engages your brain into focusing on each movement; this diverts our thoughts away from a stressful space and into the present moment. Aim for at least thirty minutes of movement each day, in a modality that preferably makes you huff and puff a little (providing it is
