June 10, 2020 at 10:52AM There’s just something about Andrea Ranae. Her confidence, personal strength and insights on leadership have become an instant inspiration to us since we stumbled across her Instagram last month. Like so many of the voices in wellness we’ve championed over the years, we’re planning on highlighting Andrea’s perspective periodically to help her narrative inform and serve our audience. Andrea’s video above is a call to self-care, a term that goes much deeper than it first appears and — as we’ve been discussing a lot this month — actually equips us to show up in strength. Here are key take-aways from Andrea’s message and notes on how to become more involved in her work on “Liberatory Leadership”… If you have a vision for change in your communities or our world (or maybe you just know that a different reality is possible) and you want to show up, contribute, serve or generally live the kind of life that leaves this planet better than you found it – you’re in the right place. Black-Owned Clean Beauty Brands
June 10, 2020 at 10:00AM The area where I’ve probably had the most growth and “aha” moments in the last few weeks as I unravel my own white privilege is in the Clean Beauty Space. First and foremost, we need to acknowledge that clean beauty in and of itself is privileged. Clean beauty has and probably will always be more expensive. Without the use of cheap fillers – which are oftentimes the culprits of toxic ingredients – the product will cost more. To be able to choose to intentionally spend more on your body care products is a privilege. To be able to even think about the idea that there are harmful ingredients in body care products is a privilege. I’ve had to think about whether or not I want to continue to support the clean beauty space if it’s not accessible to everybody and honestly, I still don’t have it figured out. One place I knew I could start was by sharing black-owned clean beauty brands. I’m ashamed to admit I had only heard of about 2 of these brands before putting this together. While I’m sure C isn’t totally stoked that I’m about to fill up our bathroom again, I’m excited to try […] The post Black-Owned Clean Beauty Brands appeared first on The Healthy Maven. This Little-Known London Brand Creates the Ultimate Feel-Good Prints
June 10, 2020 at 07:00AM Welcome to our newest editorial initiative, Who What Wear Spotlight, where we’ll be using our editorial platform, social following, and ad inventory to turn the spotlight on small businesses that need our support now more than ever. Each week, we’ll be highlighting a new fashion or beauty company. If you own a small brand and would like to be considered for the program, please apply here. As a fashion editor, I always try to meet as many new brands and designers as I can, and back when we were working in the office, we regularly scheduled meetings with new labels. There are a handful of brands that I will always clearly remember these first meetings with and their early collections, and Lisou is one of those brands. I was first introduced to the label in March 2018 when founder and designer Rene Macdonald visited our WWW UK townhouse. And so when I saw Lisou in the Spotlight applications, it was a no-brainer that this was a little-known label worthy of our backing. The aesthetic of the London-based brand is infectious, as Macdonald creates her own bright, playful prints and works with bold pinks, oranges and greens. Her personal style is in line with Lisou’s aesthetic, as she loves to mix unexpected vibrant prints together. Introduce our readers to your business. When did you start it and why? Lisou started in 2018 as a womenswear brand specialising in silk pieces with unique prints. As we’ve grown, we have added other fabrics, but we continue to design all
These 7 Makeup Tips and Tricks Make You Look 10 Times Better in Photos
June 10, 2020 at 06:30AM Be honest: How many selfies are cluttering up your camera roll right now? If you’re like us, then the number is probably pretty high. No judgement! It’s a weird time right now, and there’s no shame in snapping a selfie or 50 now and then. As participants in an increasingly digital society, there’s really no avoiding being on camera whether it’s to document our loungewear du jour, or to log into a virtual meeting with our teams as some of us settle into a work-from-home arrangement. All this face time has us thinking about the daily makeup habits that need to shift right now if we want to look our best in every photographic circumstance. To help, we called in makeup artist and photographer Jordan Liberty, who not only knows exactly what looks best on camera but also how to achieve it. Ahead, check out Liberty’s expert tips for putting your best face forward in photos—whether in professional pics, iPhone selfies or when you just want to step it up for your next virtual meeting. First and foremost, Liberty says it’s all about using the right tools for smooth and flawless makeup. “I love applying skincare, foundation and tinted moisturiser with a brush. Fingertips can spread bacteria and oil,” he points out. “It’s often thought that foundation for photography should be applied heavier, but with today’s cameras, every bit of texture is amplified,” Liberty says. “Try to reduce texture as much as possible with lightweight foundation
If You’re Desperate for a Holiday, Here’s 19 Summery Perfumes to Whisk You Away
June 10, 2020 at 06:30AM I don’t know about you, but I’m trying find my summer kicks wherever I can right now. Following last week’s heat wave, I’m ready to start embracing all things summer. I ordered some new sandals, hooked out my shorts and rejigged my beauty cabinets so that my most-loved SPFs sat front and centre. I have slotted so easily back into the summer way of life, in fact, that I often have to remind myself that, unfortunately, this summer will probably look a little different to normal. You see, usually at around this time of year I am packing a suitcase with swimsuits and beach cover-ups, ready to hop on a plane to somewhere a bit more exotic than the puddle-filled streets of London. However, this year, the main event of so many people’s summer has been put on hold with travel bans. Naturally, as a result of this, I’m trying to find some escapism in other ways. The most obvious of which being through my daily perfume choice. For me, selecting scents that smell reminiscent of summers gone by is the ultimate mood-booster and form of escapism. The minute I spritz my perfume first thing in the morning, I’m reminded of all of the wonderful feelings that come hand in hand with summer holidays. I’ve been loving my new summer perfume routine so much, that I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know. I feel calmer, more chilled out and, most importantly, happier with every single spritz. So, if you’re
The Topshop Items That Are in My Saved Items Folder This Summer
June 10, 2020 at 06:26AM For fashion lovers, apps have revolutionised the way we interact with our favourite brands. Websites that previously weren’t smartphone-friendly are now packaged into neat programs, allowing us to browse categories with ease and order at a touch of a button. My favourite function? The Saved Items folder. Acting as your very own virtual clothes rail, this simple solution allows me to bookmark the pieces that have caught my eye. It’s also the perfect way to step back and mull on a potential purchase rather than ending up in a panic-buy situation. There’s nothing more satisfying than coming back to my wish list after a few days and being able to cherry-pick the pieces that still set my heart racing and deleting those that don’t. I’d pay a lot of money to get a glimpse into the wish lists of my favourite fashion icons. But as I currently don’t have a direct line to Alexa Chung, we’ll just have to do with yours truly. This week, I’m revealing the items currently residing in my Topshop wish list. Out of all my fashion apps, Topshop has one of the best save functions, and I add to it on a daily basis. Want to see what’s in my Saved Items folder this week? Scroll down to see and shop my picks. These Expensive-Looking High-Street Items Are All Under £30
June 10, 2020 at 06:16AM Have you ever experienced the sheer joy of having a fashionable friend ask you where your latest item is from, only to be able to proudly tell them it was a bargain of a purchase? Let me tell you it is a thrill. There’s just something so satisfying about finding a piece in a vintage store or on the high street that looks much more expensive than its price tag would suggest. And it’s even more satisfying when you can tell people just how affordable the item actually was. With this in mind, I set out to find a few expensive-looking high-street items under £30 that could act as the subject of my next humble brag, and right now there are certainly some winners around. H&M in particular currently has a very elevated offering, featuring a billowy wrap top and a few puff-sleeve minidresses that could pass as designer. Mango has some very affordable linen pieces, while Zara, as usual, has the affordable trend-led category covered. When it comes to obtaining an expensive-looking high-street item, my tip would be to go for a timeless style. More often than not, it’s a ribbed-knit tank or standard LBD that will always look elevated and expensive despite the price tag. Not to mention these are the types of items that will stay in your closet for years to come, really ensuring you’re getting the most value for money. Keep scrolling for 20 expensive-looking high-street items that are all under £30. Style Notes: This
